New to cycling. Got a used road bike, came with these clipless/ flats? What shoes would work best? I'm not training. Just joy riding for now in my chukka lows. Thank you all.
this is totally fine, you can use Shimano SPD plates with these, NOT SPD-SL only SPD

Those are spd hybrid pedals. They’re used with mtb shoes/cleats.

You can use mtb shoes on the SPD side, or simply use any shoes on the flat side. Whatever suits you.

2 sided pedal. One side for flats, one side for SPDs.

Hybrid pedals that you can use as flats or with spd cleats. The worst of both worlds because regardless of which side you want to use, it’ll always be the wrong way up when you’re starting off.

What I’ve typically done is affix a SPD clip to a chub of ham like you would a shoe. Reason being that I like individual leg training. So with weight on one side the balance dynamics are changed and forces a good kind of mind body connect. Ham chub cycling is going to be hot in 5 years. You have to think about riding a lopsided ham chub bike.

I got these a few years ago since I use my bike for long rides and fitness with cleats but also to commute to work or around town when needed.

nothing to add here other than: while this sub is often technically literate enough for tech questions (as proven itt), if you have more head scratchers there’s also this one:
r/bikewrench
covers any damage/maintenance/repair questions in often excruciating detail. super fun.

I do road biking, and prefer having clips on both sides, but Shimano SH-MX100 shoes work wonderfully for the non-clip side too. Seriously took my ease, safety, and comfort up a few notches.
