Sound only appearing when you stop peddling, but disappears if you move the peddles slightly in reverse (the direction to break), and resumes when you go to peddle forward. The sound is only there when you are coasting. (Unless u move the peddles back like I mentioned).

And the bike has coaster breaks obviously lol

If anyone could help, that would be awesome.

Need help. Cruiser making terrible sound

  1. just a guess but sounds like coaster breaks rubbing, like not engaged but backing off to far? When you back peddle just a bit which should start to engage the brake it seems to stop.

I’ve never actually service them my self though they usually last forever it seems.

This is your hub. I would take it to a shop to see if it is too loose or maybe too tight; if not it may need to be overhauled. Good luck!

I’ve had this problem before on an old Schwinn making a similar noise. The brake pads inside the hub are worn down to the point where there’s a bit of play in them, so they rattle around and rub against the hub, even when coasting. How old is the bike anyway? That might not be the problem if it’s newer.
