Hello I have had the bike in the photo for 10 yrs or more. Is it worth fixing and tuning up or should I look at getting something new. Would I spend just as much fixing verse buying something brand new for a similar amount….for context I rmuse this primarily for biking with my spouse a few times throughout the summer months so it just needs to be reliable not fancy. I would like to be able to do some train riding around the area I love but nothing to difficult. Also I have no sentimental attachment to this bike and my bike repair knowledge is very limited but I am very handy and I can fix almost anything accounting for the learning curve….

It’d be worth refurbing if your plan was to give to a kid but otherwise I wouldnt do more than toss the chain in a cup with some wd40 shake the devil/rust out of it, slap it back on with some new lube and do a brake adjustment. Past that you’re better off getting something better off facebook/craigslist. IMO Mongoose/Huffy and other walmart brands just aren’t good or enjoyable to ride even compared to half decent bikes from 30 years+ ago.
