I am leaving for my first solo bike camping trip in a few weeks (GAP / C & O) and am trying to sort out how I want to pack my set up. I don’t fully love the set up I currently have in the photo and have never tried anything else.
I have a Kona Rove and currently run two 40L Ortlieb Back rollers on my rear rack, with a tent strapped to the top of the rear rack. Double bottle cages on my frame, stem bag for snacks, and then a specialized pizza rack up front where I have a drybag with my sleeping bag + sleeping pad strapped.
I’m thinking about ditching the front rack and instead getting a half frame bag and maybe fork cages if I need to. I just feel like sleeping bag + tent + jet boil are bulky and I’m not sure how to accommodate them while staying lean.

I imagine you would benefit from an extra pair of panniers on the front for even weight distribution.
But the specialized pizza rack is maybe not the best option for this since it puts the weight too far forward, which leads to wheel flop when loaded.
Other racks, such as those from Tubus, offer the option of placing panniers a little further back, behind the front fork, to stabilize the steering.

Looks like a great setup. Try it out on your first trip and see how it works.
