G'Day my fellow Bromptoneers, I'm pleased to share that I've joined the fold. I just bought a used 2008 M6R for £450.

I will be confirming with Brompton headquarters on the manufacture date.

In the meantime, I wanted to ask the brains trust your thoughts and opinion on any upgrades that you would recommend. The bike folds and rides well. Previous owner has replaced rear wheel, chain, chain guard and tyres over the life. The primary use will be joy rides (5 – 20km rides) and riding around France in the next few months. I won't be touring, just joy ride to explore a little bit of France countryside.

Initial thoughts:
1. Replace saddle
2. Replace grips (these are likely glued in so will be interesting to remove)

Any specific specs in saddle and grip I need to take into consideration given the 2008 model when ordering parts?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Unfold Pedal 1st Brompton May 5, 2022

👍, I noticed in your 1st picture of your fully unfolded Brompton, that the pedal was still folded, which leaves the risk of the pedal scraping against the paint of the rear extremity’s rear stay — or the pedal can even become jammed against the stays, if the pedal is moved a half revolution, before unfolding the pedal.

For this reason, I recommend always unfolding the pedal first, which eliminates the risk of accidental movement causing the folded pedal to go or jam against the rear stays, which can cause serious scraping g of the paint.

Brake calipers, optional, levers definitely, grips, just cut them off! New roller wheels definitely, maybe new tyres as well.
