Last weekend was the Summit Point Cycling Classic and as part of the event I convinced the organizers to take a chance of fixed gear racing. After 6 months of planning, promotion and hard work by a lot of folks we pulled it off.
30 folks from Boston to Puerto Rico pulled up to race around the Summit Point Motorsports Park Shenandoah circuit in 100 degree temps. We did our best to stay cool with plenty of fluids and sought shade when possible.
The Omnium winners (highest points after Saturday and Sunday) took home a wheelset featuring Phil Wood 24/24 hubs, Velocity Aileron rims built by Velomine and what I think are the coolest trophies in cycling a chainstiched champions belt.

This sub needs more posts like this. So sick. I wish fixed had more funding/sponsorship as a racing discipline.

That was my first sanctioned race. I had no chance holding the wheel of the cat 1/2s but I had a great time riding in a group on a closed course. I really hope the organizers do it again next year, ideally with a field split for us mortals if the registration numbers justify it.
