and happening right now a vigil is taking place in memory of the cyclist who was hit and killed in Cambridge on Friday morning it marks the second cyclist death in Cambridge just this month our NBC T Michael Rosenfield is there with reaction from those in attendance Michael what are they telling you tonight Priscilla the woman who was killed on Friday has been identified as a graduate student over at MIT and this evening friends family and The Wider Community came together together to honor her life and call on more safety measures on Cambridge streets the vigil has just wrapped up here outside City Hall the victim was 24-year-old Min T nuan she was on her bicycle near Kendall Square Friday morning when she was hit by a box truck as the truck made a turn at a busy intersection she was the second bicyclist to be killed in Cambridge in two weeks the first took the life of a 55-year-old Florida woman who is visiting Cambridge both accidents were very similar and bicycle safety Advocates have been calling on the city to expand protections including more bike Lanes Advocates tell us they’re disappointed that the city council here in Cambridge recently voted to delay implementing a slew of proposed enhancements here at the vigil we just heard from several of min’s friends including her boyfriend I think the support of you all here is perfect reflection of the deep community that she sought to build she had a boundless generosity of her time everyone who knew her had a unique special relationship with her in both crashes the truck drivers did remain at the scene so far no charges have been filed in either crash we’re live in Cambridge Michael Rosenfield nbc1 Boston

Unfortunately a bicycle will never win against a vehicle, everyone on a bike needs to assume that the driver doesn’t see you, also when a vehicle slows at an intersection even if there are no turn signals, Assume they will be turning in front of you. With Drivers being distracted by Phones and other vehicles you are not on their radar
