I have a very similar one with the same decals and I’ve always assumed it’s a 1996.

Based on shifters, brakes, and brake levers, it’s 95 or 96. Available catalog pdfs don’t seem to show this color but Bikepedia shows, for ’95, a “steel berry” which I could see this being called. Drive-side pic could help.
Handlebar is obviously not original. Doubtful that the crankset is original.
