Hello. Just the other day I got into a major crash while bicycling. It was a gravel/dirt trail and not the road. I personally don't remember the details too well but I was told I was going fast, somehow my front wheel fell off, and I face-planted and flipped over a few times. Someone was behind me riding and saw it happened and stopped help me and call help; I'm grateful for them but I didn't even ask their name or see them.

I was not wearing a helmet and I honestly never have really worn a helmet while bicycling for my entire life (20+ years riding). Up until now, I (thought I) had never needed one or been in any serious accidents. Well I was taught the hard way. I almost broke my skull, my orbital socket, my jaw, teeth, nose, and more. I was lucky to get away with just a cracked rib, major 10/10 facial road rash, some stitches, and deep scrapes here and there. Honestly I couldn't tell you how I didn't get worse as I should have.

I learned the hard way and paid for it, definitely going to be buying myself a nice helmet once I'm healed.

Here's photos if you want to see. NSFW

Dang man, thanks for the photo, it really drives the point home.
I’m a dedicated helmet wearer, but a lot of kids, in fact, almost every kid I see on a bike does not wear a helmet.
If there are any young riders on this sub, listen up to u/Trotski7
