Hi y’all, I’m just getting into to biking now. I just need something that will reliably get me to and from work. Work is about 4.3 miles and is completely flat. I don’t have a lot of money so I’m trying to find something cheap on Fb marketplace. I’m thinking about getting a 26’ Murray Street Cycle Bike (pics attached) but I don’t know anything about bikes. Do y’all think it’s worth $50 and will at a minimum get the job done?? Thanks.

If you’re desperate for work transpo **AND** it works flawlessly. It’s really not worth more than $25. It’s going to have flat tires soon because the tubes($15/pair) tires have slipped (valves are not perpendicular to the rim)inside the rim.
Check OfferUp marketplace.
No, it’s a used cheap component Walmart bicycle. Look for a bicycle co-op in your area.
Honestly I wouldn’t pay a dollar for it. This is a 30 year old BSO— a bike-shaped object. Probably cost less than $50 brand new. The drivetrain and brakes barely worked when new— thin stamped steel and soft plastic.
My first “mountain bike” as a child was one of these, and nothing on it ever worked properly. I can’t imagine actually relying on it to get to work.
For $50 I’d hold out for an old name-brand bike.
I’d keep looking. Murray is a department store brand with a low quality frame and low quality, often non-standard components. Keeping it maintained will be a PITA and, even if properly adjusted, it will be a heavy, unpleasant ride.
A brand that sold through a bike shop will be far better.
