📍 Vienna 🇦🇹 to Bratislava 🇸🇰
Let us come back on our first day bike packing here in Europe.
Last May 30 we left our warmshower hosts’ house in the morning and started our first kilometres on the EuroVelo6. This bike lane going from the Atlantic to the Black sea (which hopefully we will soon see 🤗).
That day was a quite long day for us as we biked for 68 kms. We were thrilled to bike on bike lanes as this was a major low point in the Philippines in terms of safety.
May 30 was a holidays in Austria : we biked along with so many day-trippers (Maya waved at all of them hehe), passed by dozens of families having barbecues and picnics along the Danube and – let’s not forget – dozens of nudist people sunbathing on the river banks near Vienna 😂
We were lucky to have a warm sun shining the whole day ☀️
The day was wonderful: signs everywhere showing the way, bike lane all along, picnic tables and rest area, bridges with ways made for bikers, spring flowers, beautiful landscapes, free cold drinking water everywhere, etc.
Then came the rain approaching Bratislava. We didn’t have food nor a home for the night. After crossing the amazing city proper of the Slovakian capital, we eventually arrived with what would be our dinner in a campsite at the north of the city by 9:30PM. There, a sign… « online booking only. Refrain from entering with no booking. » Oops 😬 We decided to stay no matter, had food in the tent and all slept like a log.
What a first day !
