Do I need to buy a separate thru axle and some sort of cog for it, or does some company make that in one piece? And what is it called so I can google around. Thanks

These are generally called Chain Keepers or Dummy Hubs. Pedro’s, Feedback, Park, Robert Axle Project, etc all make versions of one. Usually they will just mount to the drive side to be compatible with different dropout standards.
