Was cleaning my bike today after a ride last night and noticed a buckle in the rim braking surface. Just wondering if anyone has any theories as to how this kind of damage would have occurred (and thus if there’s anything I could do to prevent it from happening in the future)?

The tire was probably installed wrong in the first place, I don’t think a hit on some curb would cause this
since the rim is also cracked (bottom edge of the orange bit) I assume the rim is worn and that hitting a small / usually insignificant pothole/curb made it buckle.
because rims usually don’t crack when they get slightly buckled
that’s a mavic pro carbon sl or carbone sl?
it’s a miracle that it survived this long anyway since those rims are notorious for developing cracks at the spoke holes
To my eye, there’s some ragged edges on the carbon weave “below” the rim site (look radially towards the wheel center, to the right in this photo). It appears to be delaminating.
Did you hit a pothole or object really hard recently or at some point? Something is bent or damaged, I think. I’m worried about the integrity of the carbon.
I’d have someone take a close physical look at this. Also, dismount the tire and have a look inside and see what’s going on.
