taking on this course today they have had to be adaptable and they are bringing their very best it’s time for the race with re mofin hello and welcome to cro Montana and switzland where we’re getting ready to go racing at the fifth round of the UCI cross country short track World Cup all eyes on the star country Alexandra Keller Swiss fans packing place what a big result from her today the lights are red and then they turn green and they are green for go Keller off the line cleanly as is toi as is inder up the middle C Peterson in the blue and the number seven bike moving backwards slightly Lan L the number 16 and the national champions Jersey of France this first climb OE absolutely essential yeah it’s a long climb going to take about a minute and a half before they hit the woods and it’s really essential to get a good position going into the technical stuff yeah really a teal of two have the short track course here in CW Montana you have this big long power sapping asphalt climb and then it’s into a couple of really really steep technical off-road descents I think physically it’s probably the toughest xcc course I’ve ever seen with this climbing and it’s every lap it’s going to be like this torturous set of intervals the track here in cron Montana has been getting chewed up day afterday is the first dry day we’ve had really since we’ve been here conditions starting to get tacky this morning as we see them nearing the top of this climb now it gives you an idea of just the length of it as well 1500 M altitude Ollie that’s that’s enough yeah it’s enough to qualify as a full altitude race and some Riders are going to love it those that live altitudes or those adapt quite well and some people there’re going to be some surprises some people just hate riding altitude yeah karaki still at the front of this one Peters say there in the blue of alason the kernick along Sider Lana LMP also moving up as well from that third row yeah champ in the red white and blue off France I think it’s see have to say as well this weekend LMP is back isn’t she after a hor start to the season let’s see them into this first descent then and it’s just drying out you know the bits in The sun will be okay but once you get into the Deep Woods it’ll still be pretty wet I think yeah we see gwendy Gibson recovered from that collar bone break earlier in the year on the track Factory racing bike you see on the outside there Laura ster but it’s Kari in the green ahead of fck Peterson in the blue and Martina Bera in the pink and blue behind them we talked about Lana La compus more just on the wiggle up the outside there just taking two Riders just past Courtney as well going into the tech so this short track course is now the same as the start Loop for the cross country Olympic tomorrow so this will be a useful CER for everyone as you see Ty making her way back through going high right there Kiara yeah Richards as well kind of 12 or so at the moment see coming back from a a nasty concussion stained in Brazil so toak leads him into this Red Bull roots and Rule section for the first time and it has been Carnage down here last night o in the under 23 short track race P Peterson though nicely done Keller homing in on her back wheel there’s L comp as well continuing her progress are they all going to make it down here safely Samar Maxwell in the black and white of New Zealand yeah Gwen gsum as well good short track racer just moving uper W huge impact huge huge crash of the KMC Ridley Rider there that was cumans meanwhile back at the front Kiara tiok looking cool common collected she has P Peterson and Lan l Keller talking down in the Slipstream in the red and white of the overall tit title leader as you come off that slippery descent you hit the asphalt here and it’s it’s a drag all the way up through the start finish there is Eevee Richards in the red white and blue of the British national champion just in that second group so for the time being it’s toak in front Keller looking really strong here in the red and white in this long road section there is the Riders are going fast enough that there is a real benefit in the slip Stream So if you can sit in a little group you going to save quite a chunk of energy Samara Maxwell in the black and white just going through your shot whoa there is cman like she actually she got away with that she has got up she’s okay she is continuing but that could have been a lot worse OE yeah and that back wheel and those big routs and this section off camber and everything’s trying to drift you off towards that catch netting and it’s really hard to just ideally you want to stay up as high as possible and if you do slip you’ve got somewhere to go real mixture real mixture of Tire choices down there on the starting grid Josh Carlson reporting up to us in the booth all sorts of different Trad patterns and ways to try and just find some kind of adhesion on that really difficult one as well cuz you’ve got such a contrast between the the TAC that they’re on now and then in the slippery woods so the best tire for this section will almost be a low TR Tire fast as you like and then on the other side but you want tread and it’s finding that balance between the two and and who’s going to take the risks here we see p Peterson on the number seven just moving out into the front L the number 16 Lan LM alongside her Keller as well putting a shift in now so those three going past Kiara toi of Ora yeah and it’s interesting to see that you this group ideally I think you want to stay away as a group of four and this this second Group of Seven Riders if you make contact it then starts it’s getting a bit messy again and you have to fight for position in the single track this is the 82nd different cross country UCI World Cup venue Switzerland it’s hosted around every season since 1991 big big home across country and there is Lan Lop now making a break for it out front From the Canyon Collective yeah it’s a tough little climb this you drop down and then it just kicks up traction is low o there’s been absolutely carnag during practice all week long here in crom Montana the courses here really really technical the well are really really severe but one woman who has been licking her lips all week long Lana L has been loving this place hasn’t she I spent hours in the woods a couple of days ago just watching all the Riders tackle the most technical features and it was lan a comp that was stand out for me best on the tech stuff absolutely superb you don’t have to think that far back to mons and at the end of last season in the rim whenever she absolutely destroyed them there is Tober up on lined the Riders right hi there is L comp now front and center off your picture you can see the side wall of her tires different colors that front one a prototype super soft rubber compound to try and help cut through this really really slick surface yeah so down here you do want full tread it’s going to give you so much full grip and confidence and Dan L comp perfect line just keeping up high Not Afraid not afraid to bite in and turn as well on that stuff you see we’re just getting some sun on this section now it’s drying out pretty rapidly K Courtney riding well as well are we past the really sticky stage now know we were out um earlier on this morning the bikes were coming in pretty sort of clogged up full of dirt are we past that stage now is it dried out enough yeah it gets to that point where actually the tires then sit on top of the mud uh and you’re getting pretty good traction and this is where if you are riding a full mud TI it gets to that point where it just starts to dry out enough and get that like you say that sticky section um it’s very very slow on the Noble tires so there we have this pack of three at the front still in it’s LM in the French national champs jersey in the front at the minute looking cool Cal this one’s under control P Peters looking menacing over to her right hand side in the blue of alas in the cnick then it’s the series overall title leader Alexander Keller so the comp has got two UCI short track World Cup winners from this year in close contention already and the two or factory Riders Shi tber as well they can work together on this section and Le is getting swallowed up slightly she’s back in 22nd for the time [Music] being Keller swings left Peterson starts to cover the move off P Peters are 178 on the Roop heart rate working hard and I think you’re going to see some max heart rate Max efforts on this Tac climb up to the top LM pushing a big gear there comfortably yeah similar to provau you know to get that real role the two Ora Riders have made it back across for this leading group of three as well two riders in the green Kiara TI and anber and that’s second group indigan Courtney Gibson Maxwell Henderson they all doing good short tracks Laura ster just off the background as well Eevee Richards just trying to make contact yeah if Richards can get back to this front group and get a win today she would equal paulen foram provo’s cross country short track wins tally with six so Richard’s on five currently an overall leader Haley Batton 14th at the moment again just trying to get back on terms yeah this is the last time we’ll see the the blackout specialized Factory machines there is steager the Austrian so yeah again after a poor start she was back in the kind of 20s at one point but she managed to work her way through and I think on this course you can you can almost hop from group to group C Peterson now is she going to try and make a break for it on this descent she’s got ahead of L comp at the top of that climb and is now forcing the issue at the front of this one you can see that section before how sticky it is and still really slippery and if you get in the shade it just hasn’t dried out the pace of this one has just been uped by the flying dutchwoman c Peters so strong last last week in b s attacking all race you know attack after attack and then ended up doing Provo in the Sprint yeah one of the few Riders really capable of taking it two Pauline for amo in 2024 P Peters said there’s Kate Courtney on the number nine bike Scott Shram MTB racing red Gibson number 20 on the Tre Factory coming back from really big injury in the first reign in Brazil broke a collar bone back end of Samara Maxwells bike just steping night on her but pck Peterson has no broken it back down into a group of three then so both Ora Riders there’s Kiara tiok have been distanced by that attack on The Descent of pck Peterson and that’s what makes her so dangerous isn’t it she can attack you on the climbs and the descend yeah yeah she’s a 10 out of 10 in all aspects you know physical and Technical Peters said down that really tricky descent Keller just having to move the hips a bit to keep the back wheel in line to not given up on this one yet Gibson sending that midline and superb down there in fifth place currently for the returning American Henderson just off the bike where to slip out on that Roots before the trees yeah often running Rems mid descent never easy to do e sorry excuse me that was lyus Stager getting caught up behind Henderson so she’s having to tap the gas back on now to get past her up that little punch of a CL and they’re back out on leass fault again that little punch as well you you’ve got to hit it with the more momentum you hit it the is so much easier and Henderson just struggling there and it makes it so much harder on that next climb gendin Gibson in fifth place is riding her way back towards the front of this race you know for track Factory racing so it’s four at the front as they cross the line with two laps to go pick a winner out of this little lot and gson Gibson just makes contact because they come through might say on the comeback from injury but a really strong xcc Rider fourth in the worlds last year what a comeback this is from gendel and Gibson you know we talked extensively about how we probably wouldn’t see her for the rest of the year or maybe to the last couple of American [Music] rounds we thought we sort of thought it would be uh North America before we saw her again and she’s back in action in the heart of the European season and with good form and I think it’s one of those injuries you know upper body it’s not ideal you have to still take a bit of time off but you quite quickly you can train on the indoor trainer so sometimes you don’t necessarily lose form from that injury but it’s great to see it back at the sharp end of the race and Kate Courtney as well just getting on the back of that group making a front group of six he’s doing a cracking roll this evening 179 baits per minute in for pck Peters as again she UPS the pace at the front of this one thean L comp on the number 16 Canyon behind her staying close Gibson has gone past T So as our good colleague Bart Brenin would say a bit of Pac-Man racing here from gwendel and Gibson just one Rider at a time yeah and you can on this circuit with the with the the long Tac it’s quite open and you can just bu jump from pack to pack slipstream on thead Road section up through the start finish and then a good climb and you can make contact so it’s Peterson Keller L Tyber Gibson Courtney Maxwell inder gun Luger up in ninth for the Swiss Rider from Bex then it’s toi so toi stock fading slightly as this race goes on P are just attacking again over the top of this plan Keller just starting to throw shapes a bit in the back fck Peterson looks up for this one this afternoon as does Lana L comp just dropping in on the Des sense this front three it’s really hard to split them technically karaoki currently leading the fastest lap times competition but she is moving backwards in the pack after that last lap so maybe problems somewhere on the lap for to but Gibson yeah nice line for Gibson there right round the outside carrying good speed and momentum and that’s so much of this course is just staying on your bike and carrying speed but bar Brenin have just come past the commentary Boo and given us the double Thum so he’s clearly enjoying this performance from his compatriot P be are now in full attack mode but the comp just flying down good line staying up high as it drops down into the road and they seem to be riding away from Alexandra Keller the rider in red and white on your screen n Keller looks like she’s in The Hurt Locker L comp taking a little break just getting one of those micro recoveries you always talk about Ollie yeah but Pet’s a face like locked on full concentration but it is it’s so much about this little descent if you can just have 5 Seconds just stop pedaling come off the gas relax a little bit makes such a big difference you certainly would need to ahead of this Red Bull roots and rules section in the wet yesterday we were kind of calling it The shoot of Doom weren’t we it was full ships all the way down it yeah it was so I mean yesterday there’s little traction for the under 23 races these Elite races have got a little better today Keller has gone straight back onto the back of them so never count Alexandra Keller out of a penultimate lap battle Gibson and T just getting distance a little bit look at L and K just taking a break on the pedals just riding really really cleverly here yeah I mean that that Main Road climb the first one is so hard as an as a physical effort you know if you were going to do a set of intervals in training that’ be about as hard as it gets to a minute and a half you know five times so it’s it’s well up there we’re going to have a group of five back you know here Tyber has brought Gibson back wither this one is boiling up nicely as they take the Bell onto the last lap [Music] lom’s just looking around her seeing seeing who’s in the group with her and it’s pick a winner out of this little one as they head on to the final lap here in crom Montana in the Kon Valley and it’s an attack from ANA Tyber in the green of shocks the group and goes from fifth to First and a couple of pedal Strokes that’s a brave move a minute and a half climb it’s a b move but can on a Tim make it work [Applause] Gibson stands on the pedals at the bottom of your picture now the track Rider have delightly afterburners to stay in touch with this one Tyber looks under her shoulder and she’ll see Lan Lov standing up here comes an attack from pck Peterson on the left hand side P Peterson 178 beats per minute the Dutch woman grits the teeth as she tries to haul in her compatriot and at the moment LM can’t follow Keller can’t follow Gibson getting distanced the two Dutch Riders out front then Tyber versus Peterson Peterson goes past Tyber oh and this is going to be full pain now tabber just hanging on there and we have gone from poker faces to pain faces here in cro Montana as pck Peterson battles her way to the top of the very last climb ahead of her compatriot on a tber then it’s l l comp then it’s Alexandra Keller quenlin Gibson has been distance she’s in fifth what a display this has been from pke Peterson she welled that attack of Ana Tyber at the bottom of that clim and smart riding from P Peter say she just sat at the back of that group got a bit of recovery going through the start finish byed a time and then hit them halfway up the climb yep superb timing as ever from P Peters said every effort arriving right on Q like Swiss Clockwork [Applause] like said missed the first two rounds to go road racing I think some of those kind of Tor Flanders type efforts really paying off there and she’s been so open about having complete full Mo watching those first couple of rounds in Brazil as well PG Peters they were tracks that would both have suited her she feels Tyber looking like she’s going backwards IND the clutches of Lan L comp who is breathing heavily from what feels like the first time this afternoon there’s Alexander Keller behind her yeah Gibson now got a hang on for that fifth place should be chuffer that the moment that second [Applause] group and steer on the way up to AP Henderson knife Samar Maxwell doing a cracking ride 10th at the moment but as they drop in again to this shoot Peterson from Tyber from the comp from Keller here we go back hand steps out for Puck Peterson sends her wide around those routes manages to hold on to it gets the canyon down the bottom off The Descent then behind her Tyber coming into the clutches of the comp then it’s Keller the battle for second is on between these three Tyber leads for now in the green off Ora look at Pizza to go the speed Peterson attacking onto the asphalt for the last time here in crom Montana oh now L comp winding it up he say it’s a long long drag up to the Finish Peterson stands on the pedals heads up through the to Center she’s good across the line Puck Pearson takes her second UCI cross country short track World Cup in a row behind her it’s anyone’s battle Keller takes it ahead of Tyber Lan L comp rolls across the line big smile on her face W what a final lap that was full of tomorrow all of a sudden set up completely perfectly behind them then gwendel and Gibson yeah big smile for Gibson she’ll be happy with that fifth [Music] place yeah vald trentino was the comeback race for Gibson but getting right back in amongst them in the top five there steager we expected slightly more from her this afternoon [Music] Tamara vidman what a ride for her in 10th place behind Candi Le who came back through the pack admirably P Peters has emptied the [Music] tank and as ever it has equaled a spectacular result taking the win here in CR [Music] Montana quing Gibson celebrates for the team [Music] Tre Factory racing not been the season they would have been hoping for so far in 2024 but it’s going all right this afternoon it’s going all right for p Peters to of alpus and the King rude aggressively rude cleverly rude away from them and even got time to celebrate a bit of fishing pck Peter set a 22y old is back in mountain biking and she is back with a bang for alpon the kerning [Music] here are your results then pck Peterson takes the win ahead of Alexander Keller on a Tiber L comp Quin Gibson rounds at the top five then steer Henderson great ride from her Courtney Le and vadan 58 seconds back off your winner great ride as well from yka kabala then Luger n Swiss Rider flying high e Richards in 13th just ahead of Samara Maxwell and Ron blinger Stephie hlin in there as well Martina Berta and Cena fry Jen Jackson 20 21st and 22nd that’s head down there night what a race what a clinical race a tactical race and a powerful race pck congrats tell us about it thanks it was indeed very tactical still every time uh especially on the last part of the climb we went all in and then yeah in the sense it stayed quite together and because of that on the road it was just a bit looking at each other and the back of the pack coming back but of course I knew yeah they uh would have to push really hard to come back every time and we saved the energy from The Climb yeah Alesandra and uh Anna and uh Lana were so strong you just uh saw after a few laps already that it would be between us but luckily I could profit of Anna attack a bit and I went uh as we say in Dutch the up and the over over how important was it to stay patient and uh drop into that descent calm and composed oh really important I had the feeling I wasn’t maybe the fastest in the desense I didn’t want to take any big risks if it was not uh not necessary uh so I just tried to have a gap on the top of the climb but I didn’t know if it was there till we uh went into the Lost steep shoot uh so then I knew I could take it a bit more conservative to uh yeah just to stay on my bike and uh Sprint finish Sprint finish how good does that feel to start the weekend with a win really good I’m happy about the start uh let’s hope for such good legs tomorrow as well congratulations well done thank you p p then backs up her Win In vald with a short track win as well crossing the line looking like The Confident young Rider she really should be after the performances we’ve seen we know she was disappointed to miss racing in Brazil well she has more than made up for it here in Clan Montana and over the last two rounds but brenans how could we ever have doubted you was that a forgone conclusion yeah she had a great race last week her form is there her form is increasing actually all the time and constantly she’s building to a yeah the main event for this year at Olympic games but short track it’s the start of the of the weekend that’s how these Rital see it but on this course it’s a kind of a CrossCountry course and yeah she’s so strong on the climb as well and she manages also perfectly I mean Tober she had a a fast last lap as well but then we see here from the beginning how it’s went yeah a good start also in uh on this course here in K Montana it’s important because when the Riders entering the off-road section from there on yeah the positions are really necessary to be in a good place and here we see that last lap of anber in the green kit from the team she was attacking quite early still at the beginning of that climb and it’s a long long climb actually on the As and attack as well she went with her overtook her just before the top of that climb and from there on it’s more Technical and she managed that as well carefully safely especially here in this last slippery descent and you can see over these roots these slippery Roots she managed it perfectly too still here on second place but wasn’t that far off and also K she wasn’t that far off but big p she took the win and K she finished second and on the top from the Netherlands on the third place R to finished four the Netherlands having a great afternoon as the sun comes out here never happened before two ditches on the podium and sh achievement but we won’t be seeing her she’s someone we won’t be seeing at the Olympics un actually not nowhere Ona who isn’t here this weekend she’s qualified to together a with big pet which shows the strength and depth that the Netherlands have in the women’s mountain bike and here is the lap comparison uh read us through this SP yeah definitely the last lap that was the fastest but also in the beginning yeah it’s important to have a good start uh and that’s so what we see here with riders Who coming more from the who had a fast start and slowing down yeah the day dropped further to the back we see also Candace Le had a strong last lap but not enough for a Podium today um yeah you see at the end they had still something left and went very fast in the last lap these Riders and we thought that it would be um Riders who were quite physically Compact and good sending as well who would Prosper here and that’s how that played out I mean Tire climbing also Tire Choice was definitely a key fact uh many riders that had a more knobby Tire in the front for extra grip in that off camber descent but also it’s bad rolling on the asalt and the Asal actually it’s a long dragging climb and a good rolling tire that’s also that’s what the Riders like to have actually but it’s it’s a mix of descending and yeah being fast on the Asal and yeah still you need to have the power I think we could see a little bit how it will be also tomorrow because there’s not that much um uh yeah time to recover for these rles it’s going quick this weekend and we mentioned Lana l in the in the buildup as well how impressed were you with her performance yeah she’s improving uh every week again uh she didn’t manage it to on the podium she was in a second position for a while in the last lap but I don’t know what went wrong she finished fourth very close to Keller and anber uh she showed her strength definitely in the race she was there from the beginning Good Start uh I think the longer distance the cross county that stood even more and also more technical descent tomorrow on this course Very steep that’s also where we are right now here on this slope it’s very steep yeah we’re not we’re not attached but we are hopefully safe for oh don’t you if we’re in any danger uh yeah it is a steep steep climb that we’ve just witnessed and there’s a lot of Sak climes tomorrow as well let’s hear then from another one of your compatriots Anna talo with Josh third place what a result and what a race for yourself talk us through it from your perspective I’m really happy with this result but not only with the result also with the way I raced I felt there was a little bit behind every lap on the start Finish Line and I tried just to make an advantage of that and I kept on spinning and every lap I came slowly back to the wheel of the front group and then in the last lap I thought okay but it is my chance they maybe don’t expect that I’m coming so I attack now on the flat and um I knew they would attack on the climb normally and I had big chances that I wouldn’t be able to follow so I thought I better have a gap on the climb already I have an advantage and uh yeah only p and Alexandra pass me there so it was really cool that I I did this uh this attack and I felt like it’s a good chance for me to do it this way and then in the Sprint I also had good legs to push some power so I’m incredibly happy with this results such a good result congratulations well done thank you so much oh she she is uh happy with that you can see yeah she managed it quite well she had a good tactic in her mind she played that well and being on the podium yeah she’s happy a good start for this weekend oh amazing and uh let’s take a little look at the overall standing uh sorry these are the xcc standing it’s Alexandra Kell still sitting up to after she pushed to the finish line and ending up in second place there good race from her as well yeah Peters already on the second place with missing the two rounds in Brazil so uh it’s still open still more left and yeah who knows maybe p p will do the whole season now all the World Cups would be nice I know that’s what you want but the the big
