I bought this used bike off a coworker for $100. From what I’m reading elsewhere these cracks may lead the fork to auto ejecto after a stiff speed bump. Should I try to get my money back?

I would if it’s any deeper than the paint. Wouldn’t even ride it, personally.
Yes. That frame is ruined. It’s alloy and no matter what anyone tells you on here it can’t be fixed cost effectively
An old BMX trick was to wrap the head tube with hose clamps. I do not recommend it. That frame is ruined.
Take a sander to it and find out. Most everyone here is going to tell you it’s a total loss, so you have nothing to lose. If it’s just paint, then you can keep on riding without worry. If it’s a crack in the metal, then you’ll know for sure, and can bin it anyway.

If you take a 3mm drill bit and drill a hole at the top of the crack, it should stop the crack from spreading as the frame is hanging on your wall as a wall decoration.
Frame is done.
Bikes are painted with thick paint which can crack.
Grab some sand paper and rub the spot by the crack.
Once you get down to metal check if the crack is in the metal or just the paint.
If there is any crack in the metal , stop using the bike right away. If that head tube blows off you will end up with a very bad crash / large medical / dental bill . As it’ll happen instantly and you won’t have time to do anything .
That frame is toast unfortunately. Cracks like that can cause serious injury when they let go, and it’s not a case of if they might. The really question is when will they let go.
You can buy a new bike or you’ll be paying for you’re dentist’s new top of the line bike.
Dentists hate this one weird trick
This is from 20 years ago but a friend of mine wouldn’t part with his busted ass cracked headstone frame. There was a replacement frame for him, he just wouldn’t switch it. I think it became a point of ego because constantly he’d poo t out I was wrong and the crack was no big deal. Til his entire front end fell off. He wasn’t going fast and didn’t eat too much shid.
Also you could die, I said what I said. Get rid of this piece of shit although as one person mentioned maybe sand down the paint to bare metal and see if it’s cracked. I can promise you it most likely is cracked, toasted and time to replace.
Yeah, not a safe place for the bike to fail. Serious injury or death is possible if it fails while riding. A new bike is usually in order when this pops up. I had my car rear ended with a bike on the rear, it was surprisingly not too bent up, a bent crank arm, twisted wheel. A few things replaced but the frame seemed fine, I still ride it regularly and I do check to make sure there aren’t any cracks developing. At least, that I can tell. I’ve only had one aluminum frame crack, and I honestly think it was down to poor design and years of hard riding. Most steel stuff if kept from rusting appears to last a long time, aluminum, or carbon, they appear to become stressed and weaken with age and become more fragile. How long does that take? Who knows, but you have visual signs of cracks for sure. I wouldn’t ride that one anymore, you may be able to find a replacement frame of similar value.

I wouldn’t even ride this to the trash bin, where it sadly belongs to.
I love how a bunch of responses here are telling you that the frame is done, and then simultaneously telling you some dumb shit you could do to continue riding it lol
And that kids is why steel frames are better long term.
