I'm getting a bit of chain slap when I'm in my small front ring (34) and mid-cassette or smaller on the back.. but look at this at full extension – you wouldn't go shorter than that right?
Maybe I just need to get better at not cross-chaining but it's a bit of PITA if I want to sit in my small ring and go up to like 8 or 9th on the back.
I could probably get another link out of it. Idk.
Ops?

No, length looks like it could be fine, but your rear derailleur is mounted incorrectly.
The b-link needs to be pointing more rearward, i.e. should be rotated clockwise a bit more.
It should [look like this](https://c02.purpledshub.com/uploads/sites/39/2022/12/ShimanoDura-AceDi2R9270FairlightStrael-3085-8735df7.jpg?webp=1&w=1200).
I would expect chain slap since you don’t have a clutch RD (and even then depending what terrain you ride, this will still be present).
I don’t think your derailleur is installed correctly. [The b-link should be pointing straight back.](https://c02.purpledshub.com/uploads/sites/39/2020/02/Shimano-105-R7000-groupset-review-3-of-9-37711f4.jpg) Fix that first and see if the problem persists.
Length is fine. Good metric is the derailleur is not straight but with a slight bend when the largest chain rings are engaged.
I did that on a 3×9 MTB. Worked for me most of the time, but it sucks when you forget and the chain gets stuck in limbo.
