I am sitting here planning my first bikepacking trip. Only 50km a day for two weeks on good roads and my friends and family still think it's a crazy idea. Well, I will ask them to watch this video and hopefully they'll redefine "crazy". I am so impressed of what you have achieved. It must require an insane amount of mental strength.
Sorry that you had to go through so much in Xinjiang, it sounds crazy but they really need to make sure that you are not a spy or something like that. In my opinion, by them being so thorough and over the top, they make the situation even worst and foreigners nervous. But their has been a lot of confusing rubbish news and lies so they are nervous by a random foreigner cycling through.
Afghanistan is spectacular if you're a man. If you're a woman, the Taliban will kill you for leaving your home-prison, showing a bit of skin or hair, or reading. There's nothing beautiful about it.
….I'm speechless dude. You're in such amazing shape and to have the mental toughness to be able to cycle across so many intl borders wow man so much respect.
Hey I’m planning on doing a cycling tour in china soon, just wondering is there any reason to be worried about dangerous animals, wolves, bears, leopards?
After 20 odd times, I can recall most of the notable passes along the i5. I don’t doubt he would fondly recollect on some of the places along the path if he were to come across them once again.
It’s very inspiring cycling Adventure, I like to get some tip from you if possible about the adventure trip required as I am will to ride across the country in Asia, wish to hear from you, thank you Lima
For any westerners shocked about how the Chinese police (and culture) reacted with such alarm to this British guy looking for a place to sleep, you might consider the fact that the British tried to conquer China, killed hundreds of thousands of Chinese, and occupied China for 156 years. For the reason that our government directed schools and education have chosen to leave out such important details of world history, it seems over the top to westerners. But, consider what they went through. Many non "western" countries share this sentiment for the similar reasons.
Man that was inspiring! I so admire your quiet determination. I'm doing a very low key thing for myself…riding the channel to the Med across France in September, I'll have you in my mind…
Imagine the narcissism required to carry the extra kilo's of camera equipment on the back of a bike, but further to set the camera up, record, pretend to ride away, only to return to pack up the camera equipment for every single shot in this film… Then to go into other countries to criticize their politics and road conditions not being up to your expectations, complaining about the local food, all to the backdrop of the most vapid corporate, sterile music instead of using the music of local ethnicities, or at least something emotionally parallel with the tone of the film…
Anywhere we can see the route you took across China Josh? Been thinking about riding across China for a while and finding backpacking routes is rough. Cheers!

Still one of my all time favorite cycle-trip videos
this guy took the same road where my asian parents go to school everyday
well done Josh, that was EPIC!!!
Great accomplish. I cycled across America with my Dad. I always wanted to do this journey. You should do your own cycling route.
Shedload of risk in this trip. I would never do it on a new bike, carbon bike, too much kit etc. Just made it 10x harder than it should be.
This video inspires me every time I watch it

Out of polite curiosity, what prompted you to detour Kazakstan?
4:30 just proving there is always someone with a guitar.
Incredible trip, neatly put together, Thanks for a great 30 minutes on this Wednesday night.
Just came from this video called from Graz to Tokyo. You are so much more prepared than them, they blame their lack of planning on China lol

HOW does he know where to go & how to navigate?!!! any cyclists can help me out? I wanna do long trips like this
I saw that there was just a sign for "tents only". Was that just off the main road or was that within a legitimate campsite? Were there many of those?
Im currently researching for this trip and i plan on just camping it as much as I can.
Thank you! An incredible video

How did you plan your route????? Paper maps? Google Maps? Or individual country's own apps??? Very curious…
Bravo, this was incredible! I liked how calm you were throughout this trip of such epic scale. Bravo!
