I've been riding a Specialized Roubaix Ihttps://www.specialized.com/us/en/roubaix-sl8-pro/p/216942?color=349861-216942) since 2021. US-based but ride in Canada, Europe, Japan, and elsewhere. I'm 175 lbs and not particularly rough on it, but I do fly with it (in a proper bike case) and have ridden it plenty on cobbles. Took it in for a proper ultrasound inspection and they told me the frame is already dangerous — enough cracking throughout the carbon fiber to raise the risk of a failure.
So…now what? I love that bike. I love the way it rides. But I'm not trying to spend thousands of dollars on landfill. Even if it was bad luck, I don't think I'd be able to go as fast as I want on descents anymore without nightmares of the bike suddenly disintegrating under me. Maybe I'm irrational.
But still: What metal frame (without a CF fork) will give me the closest geometry/riding experience to the Roubaix?
