Join me for the second video of this two parter where I ride my first century of 2024 around the hot Worcestershire countryside. I visit a few new churches too.
they’ got a big orar out don’t what they’re doing some flood defense hopefully I can get up that road cuz that’s where I’m [Music] going that looks quite ancient Beal’s Corner this is I wonder how often that’s flooded in it’s in its history pedestrian access to S Valley business is open as usual so give it a go it must be to do with building new flood defenses this will make me late for the club run I would imagine I don’t know if I’ve missed it or if I’m early I’ve seen a different Club go go I recognize two people in it but this is where it all began at starport cycle circuit and it’s good to know that the tap is still there there’s still a social distancing sign up remember this track being built it’s always a good fun to ride on it bless me maintain social distance all times whilst riding on the cycle circuit I’ll do a couple of laps on the King’s Way and see if anyone else turns up and if not I’ll head out on my own just down to where the old carpets of worth Factory used to be all new houses now so that’s two big new EST States I’ve seen go up this one here and the one where the old six form was and then that’s all new as well mom used to work here when it was a carpet Factory um gosh how many houses that is few hundred people tiny garden so this is a river star it flows into the river 7 which is just over there they’ve not built on this [Music] yet you can just see Tesco so that uh where the old Health Center used to be that’ll all be boarded up I suppose and sold off for houses I’ve heard that some people meet at the old Rosen Crown Hub so we’ll go there that’s where I met up with a few the other [Applause] day it’s busy for a Sunday morning as well right good afternoon just gone 5 12 I’ve rid through the village of alcox Brook and just here you can’t really see it that says walkwood which is a suburb of Reddit and this is the road to fenham so I’m going that way down that way towards pers and then back up through Worcester because I must be on oh I’m on 52 already I didn’t know I thought I was be on 45 but 52 so down to pers back up through Worcester from here that should be enough for a century the wind’s coming from the East I’ve just ridden into a headwind from Hanbury well from up to waren really nice spot there I didn’t sample the cafe bit dear but everywhere is now nice to catch up with the club mates and some other people I’ve not seen for a long time so fing Unbound just ah just coming into warshire and I’ve been 10 minutes at the astwood bank Crossroads I don’t know what was wrong with that light but I got off and was about to was about to walk and as I got to the other side of the road to rejoin the main carriageway they they turned again so must be some era but I’m heading down to sandborn Head East for a bit cuz that’s where the wind’s coming from God what a pava that was though everyone else had gone at least twice but we’re on the road now I’m currently on Coten Lane and there’s an Old Railway line here which I didn’t know about and this is where the bridge used to be they’ve built these parapets built from the parapets of the bridge and if you look down there there’s a stamp on the brick that’s the other side never knew this was here I looking out for the Ford but I don’t know where it is anyway we’re heading back West now look at the mileage 55 58 blind me I’m quite well faster than I thought so we’ll head back towards Persia or westerway I probably won’t go into Persia I’ll just kiss the top of it wind’s behind me now an interesting bit of History it says the bridge stood from 1868 to 2015 on the stamp on that brick say 1866 and that’s the old truck bed down there just out riding along I saw I thought saw I saw someone I know um he shouted at me and I thought it was Nigel from the club but well one of the Nigel in the club and turns out he sh he’s called called Glen he lives in he’s from toen and he lives in wooders here and his daughter also went to AB uni but I I turn around cuz I thought it was someone I know anyway uh so I’ve ridden down the l Road and ridden back and then then I’ll take in this Lane that was a bit of an unusual experience for the both of us probably you join me at ink Barrow just stop and have a look round I came in on the lane down there it’s a bit of a climb up to here on The High Ground I’ve never stopped at the church before it’s uh they look quite imposing from down there the that’s a new bit what that is it’s got a good porch but no tap lots of Rooks ah it’s rain water it’s a pity a nice looking place I’m on probably 60 now so around the clock’s correct qu 1 so I’m on 60 so that’s gives me 40 40 to go that’s not bad another big house over there God that’s a very very expensive there the inside quite large I can can hear the clock and the Rooks and that’s it and there’s a CCT TV Camera which I’m filming and a fly there some Latin and the English translation thing 1631 good Lord he’s lost his feet he had six Sons and four daughters by his three wives it’s in commission of the peace and high Sheriff of the county egio esquer I wonder what that place is called now well it’s quite quite Majestic that is and and that’s a modern stained glass window I shall uh take some pictures and press on with no water here this is St James’s church at kington and it was recommended that I visit by the lady who maintains the church at inkor where I just was so I’ve decided to come to this one as well very nice Church 13th century No No tappers from what I can see muniment chest likely to date from 1538 so this is you can tell this is much more ancient I’m feeling the Heat so I want to find a probably find a cafe or a petrol station or something and pull in there and probably buy some water and a cold drink but no this is a lovely spot always nice and cool very familiar looking watering can at the church of St Nicholas dormston and a familiar sticker there’s also a sticker kington as well oh I’m feeling the I’m going to hope we leave that open no I don’t get locked in gosh that’s an unusual that’s a war memorial the two to are much older than um in Barrow’s Church Pentecost today window in memory of the organist very nice roof nice and simple uh ah there is some water seeing as I’m in need of it I will take some and be grateful that it was put there Port tra of the king and she’s holding the Olympic torch relay from 2012 right I’m going to take some pictures there’s some traveling people whether or not uh they’re actual gypsies you would don’t know these days cuz a lot of people do it for like the heavy lifestyle it has some appeal to it Village of stock green turn left here um Hilton three those purple arrows there’re for a cycling event that was on cycling relay cuz the lady in the church asked me if I was part of it and I didn’t know anything about it so she said there was an event on you can see the signs up saying cycle event this is one of the nicest surfaced villages in the county I think a county counselor lives here now then where do we go from here on the road between oddingley and Tibetan I can only assume he’s trying to overtake something and went too far over or tried to park or something I was literally just thinking I’m due a crash cuz it’s been more than 10 years since I was hit by a car last time um so yeah and then I saw that so maybe it’s a premonition currently on 84 miles with 12 miles to go so a few laps of the town and I’ll be there you can see the witch bold Mast sat next to those at the cafe today I’m blowing I’ve got one quarter of a sandwich left and half a bottle of water and I’ve been rationing that since I bypass Worcester so since before then probably kington so we’ll ease our way [Music] back one thing common to werer so they do it a lot here more than in abis with anyway there the surface dressing it’s actually quite good because it’s only been for only being down a week but the they’ve done it some of it in uh in town and they’ve left the grit there so the Ridley is doing all right on it yeah feeling n K though now I might stop for a minute this spot marks the this spot marks the eating of my last morsel of food um there PL hols over there nice climb to do I can see the witch Bal masks still barely lost sight of those the whole ride we’re on 92 so that’s a nice nice number won’t have to do too much in town too many Loops if there’s anything of Interest big Freo come through on Friday I didn’t filming one’s just gone through but that was a passenger train [Music] but nothing happened there filming the occasion 100 949 it’s not bad 5,000 ft climb as well very flat I’m on the King’s Way sounds like a vehicle backfiring on the Dual carriageway yeah very hot I know I felt it um cracken run nice to see people and lovely flat Lanes to ride on no mishaps either so very happy with that um I can’t think of much else to say except I’ve got no food left and one gulp of water so that church saved me uh I express my gratitude at the divine intervention I’m beginning to think it actually was cuz uh yeah I’d have run out a whole bottle about 20 miles ago to go so I’ll stop rambling and I’ll get back before the woo
