It’s possible. You’ll never know. It’d be pretty tough nOt to notice a problem like that, when rolling.
I’m a heavy dude who hasn’t had penetration since moving to gatorskins, and that’s a weird angle/straightness. You may be right on the foul play…
I’m guessing you hit a large piece of glass or metal debris. I know gatorskins are popular tires but personally they were the worst tires I ever had. I got way more flats with those than I did with other puncture resistant tires.

Doesn’t matter unless it’s from a malicious act. It needs to be replaced.
I’ve had occasional gnarly slashes like that over the years. I’m gonna go with streets, not malice.
