over in Rotterdam and we’re going to be heading down to a place called Kent today the blance is near Frankfurt and it’s famous because it’s the place where Germany’s two big Rivers the Ry and the mousel meet so we’re going to be there overnight before we head down into Austria and then further south into Northern Italy so today is going to be pretty boring I think it’s going to be a lot of Motorway and autoban um so we might not film too much today but we’ll see how we get on and we’ll speak to you [Music] later make sure I got to the end I hope you can see in the dark it only takes Germany so we came down from Rotterdam this morning after what was a pretty wild Crossing last night wasn’t it it is it was scary it was four blowing 47 to 48 so yeah really rough through the night and uh this morning when we got into Rotterdam they had to put two tugs on the ferry to pull it into the dock so I it was pretty wild but anyway we’ve made it here not the best days riding was it it was a lot of Motorway and a lot of water bar mainly just to get South to get some miles under Bel uh and yeah so we’re staying at a place called Ken which is near Frankfurt and it’s famous because it’s the place where the Ry and the mousel meet that’s where we are just now in fact I’ll show you so on one side there the r and on the other side there’s the mousel so yeah it’s a it’s a really nice place is it nice place it is yeah really chilled just people walking about having a drink so yeah we’re going to spend the evening mooching around here and see what kaben has got to offer yeah right we’ll speak to in a bit [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] good morning folks and welcome to day three three so we’re off to rotten Rottenberg to TOA to to TOA don’t know how you say it but I’ll put it in the map in a minute um south of Kent again we’re making our way down to the Alps now so I think it’s about uh is it a 3our ride 3our ride today cracking day blinding hot must be about 25° already and it’s still only about 10:00 in the morning and we stayed at a place called the de’s hotel deels I think it’s pronounced hotel and I’ll stick a link for that down in the description it’s quite a nice hotel oh it’s nice really nice we looked out a bit the room’s massive um what we thought we’d do on this trip we take you inside each Hotel give you a little tour around so that you can see the hotels that we were staying in so yeah let’s go inside and let’s have a look [Music] around so this isn’t bad it’s as big as our house so we got a cracking view out the window onto the rain so yeah it’s a really nice hotel good facilities uh good breakfast this morning but there is something a bit unusual about this room in fact I’ll show you so you’ve got all your usuals like your TV yeah mini bar toilet sink but for some unknown reason you’ve also got this why would you want a window into your bathroom maybe it’s a German thing I don’t know but just seems a bit odd to me why would you want to watch somebody on the toilet [Music] okay let’s go let’s [Music] go right folks let’s pull the map up and show you where we’re going today so this morning we going to be heading towards Frankfurt we’re not actually going to go into the city itself we’re just going to skirt south of it and try and avoid the worst of the traffic and then continue down south to Rothenberg so according to the satnav we’ve got 270 km to go it’s about a 3-hour ride today and like we were saying before the place we’re going to be staying is called Rothenberg OB the Toba and it’s one of is famous medieval Villages towns um down in Northern Bavaria so it’s all Cobble streets and medieval architecture from what we’ve seen on the internet it looks a really like fairy tale kind of place really beautiful place and we’ve got a hotel that’s right in the middle of the Oldtown so yeah it should be good it’s really really hot today it’s uh it’s 27° on the dash here so hope hopefully we don’t hit any of the traffic jams on the autoban like we did yesterday but anyway we’ll see how we get on and we’ll speak to youall [Music] later down south [Music] [Applause] every Running on Empty just F my time I’ve so this morning we’re in a place called Rothenberg which is down in Bavaria and rothenberg’s famous for being one of the best preserved medieval towns in in Germany and it definitely is a really beautiful place and a great place to stop off on your way down to the Alps it’s part of what’s known as the romantic road which is a tourist Road up through Germany anyway today we’re going to be heading to Saltsburg down in Austria and we’re going to be stopping off on the way a little surprise maybe my t-shirt will give away where we’re going more of that later anyway we’ll go and have a look at the hotel where we’ve been staying let you get a look inside so this is the hotel that we stayed in last night I’m not even going to attempt to say the name but I’ll stick a link down in the description uh it’s a great place it was built in the 12th century so it’s really oldy worldy like I say it’s a great location it’s right next to the Market Square in the cathedral and there’s no parking at the hotel but there’s a par parking garage just down the way and there’s a guy that takes you down there in a little golf buggy and brings you back so parking is not an issue nice and secure so we’ll go inside we’ll get a look at the room and let you have a look around [Music] [Applause] [Music] and way what a lovely little village this was [Music] town oh was rothenburger uh-huh stunning mhm [Music] it’s a dead end down there so I think you turn through this tunnel here so there saw people going before it’s a nice place isn’t it all and I think the people have been very helpful yeah lightning I hear wers and everybody want to go really cares to know I see Marvels I see Titans some TR that everybody has to face that no one really can eras and they hide away from it a part of you was always standing in the rain but I was never your call and change a part of me was always trying to believe you the only bre folks that’s us leaving Rothenberg and like we were saying before we’re going to be heading down into Austria today so we’re going to be staying at Saltsburg tonight but before we get to Saltsburg we’re going to call a little Austrian town called Matty goof I think that’s how you pronounce it and for those of you that don’t know Matty goofin is the m in KTM and that’s where KTM have their headquarters and the main Factory and they’ve also got something called the KTM motor Hall there which is like a kind of like a museum to KTM so I think it’s only about 15 20 km something like that from salsburg so we’re going to call there on the way so let’s pull the map up and show you the route for today so we’re going to head south from Rothenberg down to Saltsburg it’s going to be quite a long day today I think it’s about 360 km something like that it’s going to take us about 4 and 1/2 hours according to the satav um but obviously we’ll be stopping at the KTM place so we might not get into Saltsburg until quite late on this evening anyway we’ve got a cracking day the sun’s out so we’ll see how we get on and we’ll speak to you all in a bit think there’s a crash on this [Music] road saying 135 minute delay oh no part of you was always standing in B because in Austria you need one of these the vignette and it’s like a kind of like Road Ta on the toll so that you can ride on the Austrian main roads and motorways that kind of thing so you get it for 10 days show you a couple of Y and you can stick it on your wind screen you won’t get [Music] it I’ll keep shining over you are with your wings in shining you better face the fall zero everybody’s trying to be here when all they have to say to be okay is I don’t know are you okay I’m not that sure [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] well folks we’re in a little town called mat goofin which as you can see is the home of KTM so we brought the big old KTM over 1,000 miles from the UK back to the factory where it was built down here in Austria and we’re going to try and get a picture of the bike now outside the Factory and then we’re going to head off to the KTM motor Hall and see what that’s all about so we’ll speak to youall in a bit would you take a photo this oh there it is oh yeah looks like a spaceship [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well folks that was the KTM motor well worth a visit if you down this way I think we paid €1 each to get in and we spent well over an hour in there so that it was really good um it tells you the history of KTM right from the the very start right up until the present day uh these information about the motor GP and H the par Daka wins that they’ve had over the years so now well worth a visi of you down this way so mat gin is only it’s only a small town in a lovely rural area in in Austria but it’s got this great big KTM Factory plunked in the middle of it and it’s pretty impressive to think that it’s all still here I think it started producing bikes back in 1934 and now the employ over 6,000 people so pretty impressive anyway we’re going to be heading off to Saltsburg now where we’ve got a hotel for the evening so we speak to you’all in a [Music] bit judging from here all alone do you ever dream of a happy home I’m wishing that every one finds their place I’m wishing the world more great night one more day it takes time one more flight one more Sunset and D yes it takes time and we dance through a it Jo oh it’s been a bit um yeah a big ride today tired yeah not so much a big ride but we set off from Rothenberg at about was about half 10 I think something like that it’s now half 6 20 to 7 and we’re about 10 km away from [Music] salsburg but with the crash on the motorway the satav going wappy and sending us back to Rothenberg and just endless Road works on the aut bar uh yeah it’s been a long sweaty hot day but we’re here now we’re starting to get amongst the Alps you can start to see it over there in the distance and tomorrow should be a better day so tomorrow we’re going to be heading to it’s a place called halat um which is a it’s a really beautiful place it’s a place that you see a lot on the Instagram and things like that it’s picture postcard kind of place um and on the way there we’re going to be going to the eagles’s nest which was Hitler’s summer residence which is perched right up in the Alps so we’re going to go there on the way to hellat so to tomorrow’s only a short day isn’t it it’s only it’s about an hour hour and a half I think ride from Saltsburg so bit of an easier day and I think we need it and I know I need a beer so we’ll speak to you all in the carry on down to halat which is where we’re going to be staying tonight so last night we stayed in this place it’s called Hotel lahoff um it’s it’s about 10-minute walk from here into Saltsburg Oldtown it was all right it’s not the best of hotels um did have airon which was a bonus after yesterday so we’ll take you inside and let you see the room and then we’ll speak to you’all later [Music] and away [Music] it’s a bit of a different day than yesterday is’t it yeah can’t believe the difference it was so hot yesterday I know hope this clears up by the time we get to Hitler’s house so we’re not going to see anything are [Music] we yeah like danan says it’s a it’s a different morning than it was yesterday had a bit of a thunderstorm there just before we left the hotel hopefully it clears up uh and like Joan says hopefully we get to see some of the views from up at the eagle nest anyway we’re going to pull the map up and show you the route for today so it’s only a short day today I think it’s only about an hour and a half to H start and from Saltsburg to the Eagle’s Nest is only about I think it’s only about 30 km it’s near a little town called Birch’s Garden and we’re going to be doing a bit of border hopping today so we’re going to be jumping back across the border into Germany we’ll visit the eagles’s nest and then we’re going to hop back across into Austria and make our way down to H so like I say it’s only a short day today we’ve had a couple of long days some big slugs on the autoban so we need a bit of an easier day so yeah we’ll see how we get on and we’ll speak German state to adol hipper on his 50th birthday so it was meant to have been used as like a a mountain retreat but L he only actually visited the place 14 times and it’s I wouldn’t say we were disappointed but it’s not what we thought it was going to be um apparently after the second world war it was spared by the allies and they removed all connections to the Nazi party so all the fixtures and fittings were removed and it’s now been repurposed as like a tourist attraction so it’s basically just uh a cafe come restaurant up there but still worth a visit uh the views from up there are incredible and it wasn’t that dear how much was it Jo no it was all right it was about 60 for the two of us we bought our tickets online before we went and I’m so glad we did because when we got to the ticket office it was absolutely bedin it was Mayhem was it yeah it was really really busy uh fact we were speaking to a woman on the bus that was saying that she came yesterday and didn’t actually get to go up cuz they closed the ticket office there was that many people here you probably are better getting your tickets online because it’d be a bugger if you if you rode all the way here and then didn’t actually get to go up so it’s a boss that takes you up you park down at the bottom uh you give them a a time when you want to go up and a time when you want to come back down again and they Alpine Village I think that’s probably what he’d come up with um it is only a small place uh when we got here last night was absolutely mobbed with tourists um but as the night went on folks started to go home and uh it actually got quite quiet so much so about we went for a meal at about 8:00 and a lot of the restaurants were closed but we eventually managed to get a bit right down by the lake and had a m looking out onto the lake so yeah cracking anyway we’ll bring up the map and we’ll show you where we’re off to today so it’s only going to be a short day again today um I think it’s only about 125 130 km something like that um it’s going to take us about a couple of hours 2 3 hours and we’re heading to a place called f I think that’s how you pronounce it probably not but um and the reason we’re going there is because it sits right at the foot of the gross clockner and we’re going to be going across the gross clock now tomorrow um and that’s us heading down into Italy so hopefully we should get some good scenery today um I think we might stop off at a place called Zam SE I think it is um it’s one of the big ski resorts we’ll probably stop there for some lunch and yeah cracking roads real twisty turning scenery was amazing um we stopped at a place called zmc I think it’s called down by the lake we just stopped there for a brew so we’re just going to chill out this bottles of schnap and it’s to help to pay for the band and the uniform and the instruments and all all that so and apparently there a traditional way of drinking it and it goes like [Music] this it’s like paint stripping night [Music] and [Music] holding raining so it’s day seven and last night the heavens opened and it absolutely threw it down all night we’ve just checked the weather and it looks like it’s going to throw it down all day today so look like the gross clock is going to be a bit of a wash out but they’ll not deter us we’re still going to do it just going to be a different kind of experience we probably won’t get the scenery that we were hoping for but you never know but on a positive note last night was great and it’s one of the reasons we enjoy traveling like this it’s the wee Little Gems that happen that are not planned at all we were just sat in the bath and this matching band went walking [Music] past so we followed them up this hill so the we f stand and we were up there all evening it was [Music] great and this place is nice it’s called the pul hotel uh the staff are really friendly can’t be more helpful when you check in if you tell them you’re going to be doing the gross clockner they give you the we brochure we leaflet and a discount card because the gross cloners a it’s a tall Road I think it’s €30 for a bike so anyway you get a we bit of a discount staying at this hotel so maybe worth it so yeah we’ll see how today goes I can say it might be a bit of a wash out but you never know so I’ll let you get a look inside the hotel we show you around the today and for those of you that don’t know the gross clockner is the is the highest Alpine Road in Austria I think it goes up to about 2 and half th000 M something like that and it’s obviously not the best weather for it but we’re here so we’re about to make the most of it so let’s pull the map up and show you where we’re off to today oh it’s going to be quite a big day today I think it’s about 200 km and like we were saying we’re going over the gr clner and then we’re going to carry on South down into Italy and we’re going to be staying at a place called Cortina which is down in the doite and we’re going to be there for three nights this time so this is like kind of like the halfway point of the tour so we’re going to be staying there for three nights and probably have a rest day tomorrow and then I know we’ll do something the next day not sure what yet so let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather improves a bit and we can actually get to see some of the gross glater and last year we went over the stelvio pass down in Italy and I’ve got to say that the scenery here is equally as stunning and as a road on a bike I think I definitely prefer the gross clockner and it facts about the gross clner so it’s 48 km long that’s about 30 mile and it’s the like we were saying before it’s the highest Alpine paved Alpine Road in Austria and it goes up to it’s about 2 and half th000 M at its highest point and it was actually built as a tourist Road for no other purpose and it was built in 19 well they started building it in 1930 and they finished it believe it or not in 1935 so it took 5 years to construct it he’s pretty impressive really when you think how long it takes him to fix a pot hole back home anyway we’re going to carry on now CU further up there’s a like a Caff and a a big glacia so we’re going up there check it out we’ll get ourselves a brew and I’m ready for a strudel my mind ain’t going to lie now look deep into your eyes a glowing fire comes to people pointed out was that if you come into the gr clockner you need to come early because the place gets absolutely chalk a block with people and there’s nowhere to park and all that kind of thing think that’s probably three chimneys that it translates to but yeah I’ve got to say if you come to Europe on a bike then this is the number one place to come look at it the Dolomite is just Italy but we’ve took a time we’ve not had long days really and we visited a few places on the way but you could quite easily get to somewhere like this from the UK in 4 days I would say and it really is easy traveling abroad getting used to riding on the wrong side of the road is a bit tricky for the first couple of days then after that it just kind of becomes second nature borders are not an issue um I think the only place we’ve actually had to show a Passport has been at the Port um in Rotterdam everywhere else it’s just just a sign at the side of the road it’s just like going from Scotland into England so our advice would be if you’ve never tried it but you’ve always had that inkling to go for it at the end of the day if we can both do it you can do it and you come to see places like this cuz this place is absolutely amazing can you agree Joe oh yeah definitely stay absolutely amazing amazing absolutely brilliant yeah do it all [Applause] again spine I’ve been waiting starting to make a way back up now we’re going to be going up through Austria like I say we’re staying at enbrook tomorrow night and then what we’re going to be doing as we’re going up through Germany we’re going to be going on what’s called the romantic road so the romantic road is a bit like it’s a little bit like the North Coast 500 up in Scotland it’s a a tourist Road and there’s lots of little like medieval Villages a bit like Rothenberg that are on the way so we’re going to be staying at a place called isberg urg first and then we’re going up to bburg is it bburg yes bburg and then we’re going on to cologne and then the final night we’re going to be in Amsterdam so yeah the delites has been amazing it’s definitely been the highlight of the trip I think would you say Joe oh definitely mate absolutely amazing just yeah yeah not describe it it’s just no it’s kind of other I was just going to say it’s kind of otherw worldly is it it’s it’s like it’s not real and the GoPros definitely this boring bit of Motorway thought would show you the we feature that we’ve got on this bike so we’re riding uh 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure and it’s got uh a feature on it adaptive cruise control and at first half thought it was a bit of a gimmick but having done two tours on it I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I’ve ever had on a bike as you can see now we’re doing just over 100 km an hour and I’ve got the cruise control set at 130 km an hour which is a speed limit on this road and you can see how the bike’s maintaining a safe distance to that car in front of us now all I have to do is indicate and pull out my hands off the throttle and it’s now maintaining a safe distance to that Mercedes in front of us and we’re increasing speed is 110 113 114 as you can see it’s still maintaining the safe distance now if I pull in behind this car in front the bike’s actually breaking now and it’s dropped us back down to 95 km an hour and it’s maintaining that safe distance again all without me not touching a single thing it’s a bit strange at first and you’ve got to get your head round it and you’ve got to trust the bike and let it do its thing but when you’re doing long days on the bike and you may be losing a little bit of concentration at the end of the day it’s like having a second pair of eyes if the traffic suddenly slows in front of you or like this guy now pulls in in front of you the bike takes over and automatically slows down and maintains that safe distance so hats off to cas TM absolutely [Music] brilliant Can you feel it [Music] now when we we’re in insbrook today so we stayed here last night at the hotel Central which is right Central isn’t it it’s right it’s right in the middle it’s right in the middle of inbrook it’s only a 2 minute walk into the Oldtown so we wandered down there last night Joan dragged me into the sski yes Crystal shop so me wallet a bit lighter but no in Brook’s a lovely place um the old Town’s lovely lots of little Alleyways with all little knick-knack shops uh it’s a great place to just wander around and chill of an evening yeah so we had a meal in the old town and then the heavens opened and we had a massive thunderstorm again yeah so we back to the hotel and we had an early night which we needed the rest So today we’re going to be heading back up into Germany and we’re going to be starting on the romantic road which takes us right up through Germany so tonight we’re going to be staying at a place called o osburg I think it’s called so we’re not going to start right at the very the romantic road starts at a place called Fen Fen yeah so we’re not starting there we’re kind of cutting off the bottom corner of it and uh starting it a little bit further up but should be good um it takes you up through a lot of like little medieval towns and Villages so hopefully there won’t be too much Auto bar and it’ll be some nice roads right well we’re going to get a coffee we speak to you later if you stayed on the road itself you can probably spend a week just in and out of all the little towns so we just picked a couple that we wanted to visit haven’t they turned out to be were really trucks they didn’t help but it was worth going on it to come off and you know see them little Villages which absolutely beautiful the I think it is it’s more it’s a tourist Trail for the towns rather than the road itself the road itself yeah and the scenery yeah and to do it properly I think it’ll take you quite a long time I think you would have to do it like five six days maybe at least yeah I mean we only picked out a couple of the the towns but you know every couple of mile is a there things to see so yeah yeah I think if you had more time and and you were into that kind of thing it’d be Amsterdam and this is going to be the last Hotel of the trip and the last night before we catch the boat on Saturday morning or Saturday evening sorry so we’ve got 251 km just over 3 hours ride today around last night didn’t think much of it last night to be honest um the places we visited were a wee bit dirty rubbish everywhere so but I think we were in a a bit of the bad end of the town if you like well this morning was nice he Joe yeah we had a nice chilled out morning this morning we took a lovely boat ride and the canal to V and then after that we went and have some breakfast in one of the little cafes just to chill out to bit before we head back to rotd down y so it was a nice chilled out morning I don’t think the road to Rotterdam is going to be anything special today it’s just going to be Motorway all the way so we’ll speak to yall when we get to the [Music] boat living on the far side of town now sharing a dream with [Music] anyone she’s made it through Heaven she’s made Watched the videos when they first came out but great to see the full length version. Weather wasn’t the kindest to you but by Christ, Europe can be absolutely stunning. Well done
