Just wanted to drop an example of a very capable and confortable gravel bike, buildt from a budget hybrid 90's bike (Peugeot Harvard), and aplying the incredible shimergo combination, which allows to use campagnolo 10 spd brifters (veloce) with classic and beautiful Shimano 8 spd rear derrailleurs and triple front derrailleurs (Shimano deore lx). I only had to upgrade rear wheel from 7 spd to 8 spd, and get some Travel Agents to be able to use V-Brakes. Clearance is tight, but It allows me to use 700×45 tires, which are enough for most cases. The final result is a tough, confortable, reliable, cheap, and IMO a really beautiful, classic looking bike. No need to spend thousands to get an adventure machine!
