Hello dear Canyon community
I received my first electric bike last week and was super excited – really enjoyed the first rides but then one night someone opened the frame and stole the battery.
Model: Pathlite On SUV 4
Battery: Bosch Powertube 500 Vertical (Smart)
Did anyone experience similar problems?
I thought the battery would be better protected.. would defeat the purpose of traveling somewhere by bike / having a lock on the battery.
Curious about your experiences!

I am truly saddened and don’t know what to do – I still need to pay off the bike and now it’s not well usable because it doesn’t even ride so well without the battery -.- looking at the site a battery is so expensive and I am not even sure if it will work and don’t feel secure driving anywhere now 🙁
Sorry to hear about this – some people are unfortunately just scum.
I’d report this to the police immediately. Get a crime reference then see if you can claim on home insurance or if Canyon may show a gesture of goodwill.
Also post on your local Facebook groups and do an Instagram post. You may get a hit!
All the best.
Doesnt your insurance pay for it? I mean its clearly theft.
Unfortunately the insurance won’t pay because it was parked outside of the house – it was secured with a level 15 lock on a steel barrier so that would have been hard to steal, but they simply bent the metal and took out the battery from the frame.
Really thought this would be harder to do 🙁
Do you recommend reaching out to Canyon?
I was so excited to finally receive my first e-bike and didn’t even take a week.. we don’t even live in a bad area but I guess if people know that it’s so easy, it would be better to build the bike with integrated battery or recommend to take it out on every stop -.-
Thanks for the kind words!
Sister and her bf live in outskirts of Berlin, in some subburban townhouse and got both of their bikes stolen from locked out underground parking. With amout of “cultural enrichment” EU is suffering currently i would never leave anything outside, keep your bikes inside your house fellas.
I like it in the US! Great land of freedom – you free to stole anything, from street, from shops … and nobody will stop you. It is hard to live in Russia, if you still something, best what can happen to you – police wi arrive and save you from imminent death.
