The night before my departure for my first trip, I realized I had too many small items I wanted to access easily during the ride. I strapped a small backpack on my saddle bag and it’s been working OK for now. I put a raincoat, warm layers, sun shirt, etc. There is an upper pocket in the pack and with strategic packing I can put it into a peanut shape to make it more secure.

I like the small compartment accessible with a zipper, but the dangling bits are annoying. Are there more proper solutions to this problem? My packing strategy is to divide my items into four groups:

1) Food I need during the day, powerbank, phone: Handlebar bag.

2) Small items like medication, repair kit, charging cables: Top tube bag.

3) Things that I will or may need during the ride: Backpack or strapped to fork cage.

4) Things that I most likely won’t need during the ride: Dry bag under the saddle.

Any tips, recommendations?
