Lady drives directly into crowd of cyclists in Salt Lake City Utah. Proceeds to yell at the cyclists for being dangerous while driving towards them in a 2 ton vehicle on her phone
999 ride. It’s not a cycling event, it’s a mobile shroom festival.
Salt Lake is ill designed for bicycling, mormonism is ill designed for youth, and a majority of these college-age students are ill experienced at operating bicycles. They all deserve each other basically, but they also all seem to understand the situation and let it happen. There is a huge police presence which focusses on motorized users, drugged out psychos and hopefully this lady, while sort of allowing the bubble to form, move and dissolve.
It’s like if a couple of Amish kids saw a grainy photograph of some Renessaince Festival cosplay and simply started beating each other with sword shaped sticks in the moonlight. Then the elders blaimed the whole fencing community. And later one of them made his third wife drive her buggy through a place they otherwise would never drive their buggy, just to try and controll it by making it eleven times worse.
This lady is very likely a mormon bishop’s wife or something like that, who deliberately went against the very well known weekly summer event to prove her loyalty to rhe regime.
It’s a locally reknowned shitshow. Most of the *particpants* find it repulsive and it’s quite dangerous in many unforeseable ways. But it’s all they have in a way most people can’t grasp. Which is to say it doesn’t cost money or require binge drinking. It has a noblemindedness that shoukld not be discounted by the Karen-like.
When the kids inherit a world gone to shit, making a shitshow is the highest form of faithful optimism. It’s almost a founding punk ethos. (A junkie might have started it even). To be honest, there is a kind of uniquely Utah level of wildly wholesome unhingedness about the whole thing.
My advice is to be cautious about getting all Wokey-Spokey on this one. There really isn’t a lot of moral high ground for anyone here.

Whether it’s protestors, a 1% motorcycle club or bicyclists whenever they try and “take over” the road problems invariably occur.
Of course it only takes one self-righteous motorist to turn it into a crisis.
Some people REALLY should just learn how to relax and go with the flow when they encounter things are OUT OF THEIR CONTROL.

Yes. Yes it is.
You don’t HAVE to drive right here.

Everyone is an asshole in that video, but the bicyclists actually more so. They were illegally driving on the wrong side of the road. Most of them with no lights.
I’m never going to support a bicyclist being rude and acting like an idiot. This is the kind of shit that gives bicyclists a bad name. We have enough problems with motorists when we behave properly. Y’all should be condemning the bicyclists here, not complaining about the driver here.
At least the driver was proceeding relatively cautiously and not trying to run anyone over. Should she have made another choice? Yes. But as a bicyclist, I’m more pissed off at the riders than the driver.

Why are the cyclists drifting aimlessly around on the wrong side of the road?

Speaking as both a cyclist and a driver, the driver isn’t in the wrong. The title makes it seem like a reckless driver careened into a bunch of cyclists, which isn’t what happened.
She’s driving like 7 mph on the correct side of the road she’s supposed to be driving on; what else is she supposed to do?
You can’t get angry that cars don’t understand that cyclists can take the lane if we need to because we aren’t supposed to ride on the sidewalk, etc and then get mad that a driver is obeying all traffic laws with a bunch of shroomin’ bicyclists going the wrong dang direction in traffic.
The event sounds cool and like something I’d do, but for the love of god actually organize it and get town/city approval so they can cordon off traffic and/or just have everyone keep to their side of the double yellow lines.

Everyone sucks in Utah.

These self-entitled ass-hats on bikes are one of the reasons motorists have no respect for us cyclists. As cyclists, we are required to follow the rules of the road. This is only building resentment towards cyclists that’s going to eventually result in an innocent person getting hurt.

Anyone who thinks the vehicles in the video are justified, you deserve to have your licenses revoked. You’re not sane if you would try to drive through a crowd of people, cyclists or not.

These are not ‘cyclists’. They are assholes deliberately being antagonistic. I’m a long time cyclist and the driver is not in the wrong here except for driving while holding a phone. If the driver had hit any of those assholes, the assholes would be at fault for being on the wrong side of the road.

Was there a big event going in salt lake city

This title is bait. These cyclists are all in the wrong. I’m saying this as a cyclist with over 10 bikes myself from every discipline. These cyclists are douchnozzles here. The title is written in a way to instigate driver hate but after watching the video I hate all the cyclists.
