I bought this Trek 950 singletrack for 80 € in very good condition, all stock part. drivetrain was filthy, shifters were gummy but everything else was fine. I wanted to convert it to a gravel / all terrain bike, a bit on the budget. it took me 4 hours to do some TLC, re routing, swapping tyres etc. I thought I would think “amazing!!” at the end but I’m not totally sold. Maybe I should have put drop bars and 3×7, 40 € Micronew brifters.
Dunno. Looking for feedbacks.

Looks like very “sporty” geometry
It’s hard to tell from the first photo, but it looks like the corner bar puts the grips almost back level with the top of the headset, undoing the stem spacers’ increase to cockpit height. So it’s taking early 90s race geometry and making it shorter and even lower. I can see why that doesn’t feel great.
Maybe drop the stem half way down the spacer stack and flip the bars so reach becomes shorter and a bit higher for a cruiser stance?
Otherwise, what riding position do you want to achieve?
Drops can very easily make a 950 too long for comfort, unless you use a short stem.
Rotate the bars down so that they are on a 45° angle
Yeah, I have some knock off corner bars and I concur, just not sold on them.
I put some Velo-Orange Klunker bars on my 1992 930 and I love them. Swept back and rise is great for the geo of the frame. The OX lugged Trek frames are special.
I bought knock off corner bars because I wasn’t sure if I’d like them, and I didn’t. Back to flat bats for me.
