Picked up this GT outpost recently and plan to build it up for some trail riding around south western Australia…… I was wondering if anyone could tell me what year it might be? I'm also considering painting it and replacing the decals, what colour scheme do you think I should go for? I like the loud, bright colour ways of the 90s, I'm also considering going raw metal…. And finally, show me your old GT bike for inspo. I've seen a few real nice ones on here. Thanks in advance.

  1. I wouldn’t repaint, those decals are cool and dings=character. The cool thing about black is you can make your own color scheme with grips, pedals, cables, bolts, bags, etc.

(Edit: 1994/5 thinking about it) I think mate. I agree the satin black and decals are hard to dolly up on this frame. Unless you went with either full on white or light grey trim throughout (rims, tyres, seat, grips) – terrible for cleaning mind you, or maybe gold trim with tan wall tyres, or murder the whole thing out with full black kit. 🤷‍♂️. Good thing is with a respray or bare metal the triple triangle still clearly identifies it.

Mine here that I just recently tarted up with some verge find accessories (goofy looking but had fun) : https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/s/gIR8TIggsk

Honestly I’m just smiling at the fact it doesn’t have one of the GT splatter paints or hammered finish or any of those. Having a black one is kinda cool

  4. Definitely paint that bad boy with the most flamboyant 90s color scheme you can 🙂 I paint quite a bit of stuff for a living so message me if you need any input on how to prep/material/paint.
