This September, as part of our development partnership with INEOS Automotive, we put the Grenadier 4×4 vehicle through its paces on our programme in Kosovo.
Find out how the #BuiltOnPurpose Grenadier faced up to the challenge with our team on the ground
[Music] for me the halo trust and in the ass automotive relationship has been about learning you know how these guys operate and what they need from a vehicle and their input into what we’ve done and our engineering practices is to then how we’ve developed that vehicle as we’ve gone along the way hence why we’re now in kosovo so we’ve brought our prototype vehicle over and was just understanding exactly how that can operate within the territories that they’re working with steve how are you not too bad good to see you again nice and you okay good to see you and you how are you doing not too bad welcome to kosovo thank you very much so what we’re going to do is we’re going to go in and wilco’s going to give you a safety brief excellent and then we’ll get out on the road brilliant steve welcome to halo kosovo thank you well we have been working since 1999 to clear landmines and cluster submunitions yeah we have our landmine clearance team number seven working here what are you finding down there mainly stake mines okay they they sit in the ground like like this like you’re holding it now exactly there’s a fuse attached to this and a tripwire right when a soldier or any person initiates the troop-wise three kg of pull is enough to set off the item and you found many of those yes yeah well yeah hundreds uh we’ve since 1999 since we’re clearing here only halo has found 4 600 landmines and you found all these here is it exactly [Music] the challenges in the train in kosovo are two-fold it’s on-road driving as well as off-road driving such as muddy roads straight into rocky terrain heavily rutted and snowy conditions in terms of where we’re going what sort of inclines will we be traveling and how high are we going up so on this outing we’re going to be going up to roughly about 1 400 meters this is probably the normal sort of roads we would start to expect when we’re getting closer to a task majority of halo’s light fleet vehicles are also ambulances if there is an emergency that happens it’s key that the vehicle will not only get there smoothly but also quickly in a safe manner the grenadier showed some great colours it was on-road driving was very smooth and very controlled and then it effortlessly moved into the off-road role without any issue [Music] so today we’ve been out with the guys in a live environment and and seen the terrain that they’ve gone through and these guys are not operating on roads as we would know very tough conditions and we’ve gone up in sunshine and we’ve come down in what was ultimately pouring rain [Music] you can tell where we look to reliability yeah so we’re on these roads every day yeah we’re up we’re down probably multiple times a day yeah i mean as you can see the weather’s coming on us then the surface then completely changes so we had to go into low ratio to ensure that we weren’t over braking we weren’t sliding and pushing the vehicle which was which was fantastic yeah so we’ve come down quite a steep incline of hardly used the brakes at all maybe dab them twice yeah and the rest of it’s been all manual manual adjustments you’ve seen that up and down and just keeping it under control nice and slow shall we uh shall we head back to the compound let’s do that yep brilliant having traveled to a number of programs already with the halo trust cambodia zimbabwe ukraine and now kosovo it’s clear that the grenadier would be up for every train that we operate in now and in the future it’s extremely important the job that we do we can’t do without vehicles so we need a vehicle that will be able to get us there and get us back being out in kosovo will allow me to then take some feedback to our engineers how the vehicle’s performed the good points and there’s been many many good points that we’ve seen and then any you know tweaks and changes that we we still have the opportunity to make [Music] it’s been great being part of the testing and development of the grenadier and to see what capabilities it has and what possible future it would have within halo trust seeing the halo trust working in the live minefields understanding you know what they are doing how they’re clearing these areas that then allow families to restart their lives they’ve now been able to go and refarm their land create their own produce and and from our point of view if we can play a part in that with reliable durable credible vehicles that allow halo to continue the great work that they’re doing then the partnership’s working [Music] you

With that red/white paint job, make sure you always park it facing the minefield.
Joking aside, nice video. Kosovo crew has my sympathies, those yellow submunitions (nomenclature escapes me) are a real risk.
