Title, I'm looking to get a bike for commute, 10 miles round trip. Ive decided to go with a gravel bike from state bicycle co. Specifically their single speed chromly model as some have said it has better steel.

With that, should I have one shipped and I assemble it at home, or take one to the local shop?

Seems like a cool project and a single speed doesnt look to difficult to assemble. Plus I want to learn my bike and do regular maintenance anyway instead of relying on a mechanic outside of a critical failure.

Theres no rush to have the bike now, havent road since I was a kid, so I'm planning after work to do rides to become for familiar and build endurance.

Here is the bike I'm looking to get https://www.statebicycle.com/collections/4130-fixed-gear-single-speed/products/4130-purple-reign-fixed-gear-single-speed

Build it yourself! You can always take it in to a shop if it becomes overwhelming, but like you said, it’s a great way to get to know your bike and not too hard at all.

It depends on your level of “handiness”. I’m personally more of the idea to have it built right in the first place and learn about the bike by servicing it than risking putting it incorrectly in the first place and messing up something. As always YMMV.
