It also checks all boxes for what a bike needs to do for me. So no the looks arent the driving factor. Reading the title back it kinda seems like that

Decathlon bikes are great, they’re not “big box” like a supermarket is, they are genuinely wanting to make great bikes. I’ve got several and I often choose them over more expensive bikes because they’re so much fun to ride.
There’s really no issues with decathlon bikes, they always come out great in comparative testing. Don’t listen to snobs who say otherwise.
Don’t let Decathlon brand put you off, really well made , serviceable bike. Decathlon actually spec excellent value for money for quality equipment across its ranges, in the past the french have had odd style, but they are getting over that too.
It is a good bike. Its absolute entry level road race, relaxed position.
The microshift shifters are a bit lacking on this model though, I would look up for a shimano sora spec at minimum. You will find them on next Triban up.
Test the bike see if it fits you frame size wise, you might find the microshift shifters do the job, the shimano stuff is much nicer though.
Had a Decathlon hybrid for six years. Totally solid bike. I wouldn’t say it was my favourite bike ever, but it was bombproof and absolutely loaded with features I’d have to pay loads more for.
For the price there was literally no way to get a new bike with a warranty like that. I hear that that is true also of the Triban. If you look around on various bike-related subs you’ll see a number of posts about its value.
My first bike that got me into road cycling was a triban. Bought in covid to keep active as gyms were closed and I’ve never regretted it (sold it and upgraded eventually because I got hooked)
But 10/10 can recommend decathlon bikes.
Had this bike before. It is a very nice bike. Non replacable hanger is not a problem at all. Frame is thick there and in the worst scenario you can break a microshift derailleur which is really cheap to replace. But I haven’t heard anyone had issues with that.
Probably the worst part of the bike are tyres. They are slow and quite slippy. I would change them
I have the rim version, probably done about 5000km on it in the last 18 months, and can say, for the price, it’s a really nice bike. The microshift drivetrain isn’t perfect, but it’s also not terrible, and I don’t think it negatively affects the riding experience too much. My only real complaint is the bar geometry is a bit weird (but that may be personal preference).
I had it, it’s very good. Go for it! The only thing I ever did to it was change the tires, they’re not the best really (but honestly not even the worst). Also the seat wasn’t doing it for me, but that’s just personal preference.
Why would it be bad because it is Decathlon? Yeah 10 years ago maybe their bikes weren’t that good, but now they have more designers and engineers than any other brand. And because they are such a bike brand they can buy their groupsets and such at very low prices that’s why they are less expensive than most brands.
I have 2 Decathlon bikes but also a Specialized and a Canyon and I like them all.
