Just received this road bike today, my first ever. It's a Triban RC120.
I took it out for a longer-than-around-the-block spin tonight and noticed the gears being a bit noisy at times.
Now, I'm not used to the gearing setup on bikes like this so this could be down to user error but I want to make sure.
There seems to be a sweet spot and some gears don't make noise but most do, and they make this sound when I pedal that is clearly the chain making contact with something.
I am not sure it's not user errror and me just shifting incorrectly, but I don't think it is due to cross-chaining since it happens at high and low gears, but I'm not sure.
This is the bike just out of the box so it has not been tuned and I don't know if this has something to do with that or if there are things I can adjust myself to try and improve this.
The shifting happens smoothly, so far as I can tell, it just makes this noise. There is also the swoosh noise of the rear brake disc going through the caliper, but I know that sound from a former bike.

My first guess would be slightly rubbing the front derailleur. I’d sit and run the chain backwards while going through all the gears to try and ID the rubbing source.
many possibilities here:
-front derailleur out of alignment
-front derailleur out of adjustment
-front derailleur bent
-front derailleur cable tension too low or too high
-wrong front derailleur
-not aware of “trim” and how to use
-worn out shifter
-crank arm is loose
-Bottom bracket has play
-chainwheels arms bent
-a chaining is bent
I’m sure I forgot some more.
