A few days ago I drove 3 hours round trip to pick up an old free Scott MTB I saw on FB Marketplace. No idea the model, because when I got there it was already gone. I drove back a little pissy but grew to appreciate seeing new parts of Minnesota I’d never seen before. When I got home, like a junkie seeking his fix, booted up FB Marketplace again. First bike I see is this 1998 GT Karakoram listed for $80 reduced down to $60. I’m a bike novice but I’ve heard about these old GTs and shot him a message. Pretty sure this is completely stock save for the stem (he had the original) and the saddle is a Bontrager, though I know the stock was a black a red WTB saddle. Yesterday I drove 7 hours round trip to pick it up. The guy threw in a 1997 Cannondale Super V frame that had been sitting on his desk for awhile to “make the trip worth it”. Super excited about the Karakoram, and I’m going to try and build up this Super V as my first full build.

Been there and done that for bikes and kayaks. It’s funny how sometimes what you want is really far away and you just have to power through a drive if you want it that bad.
