  1. Since the mount isn’t mounted to anything it’s hard to know.

I would mount the rack so it’s secure, mount the bike. Give it a really good hard tug in all directions. If there is any give in any directions I would not use it. If you are going highway speeds and hitting bumps shit needs to be locked down tight.

You can secure it further using straps on the clamp itself and the wheels.

As long as the tires are strapped I’m gonna say that’s fine.

Check my posts, similar setup, but mine is Amazon junk and it’s been fine

  3. I use this roofrack myself, your bike looks a little bigger than mine but if the clamp feels snug I’d say it works. Assuming the end-caps of the rail (where you slide the wheel brackets over) are still on.

Keep in mind when using the clamp with a carbon frame they recommand some sort of extra rubber between the clamp to prevent cracking the frame.

I don’t think that’s a carbon frame, right? If not then you’re fine. Make sure it’s nice and snug. Get those wheel straps on and shake vigorously before setting off. Stop after a few KMs to double check nothing has moved.

Thule upride is a much easier rack to use with bikes like this by the way.

  5. Yes you’re fine. The 598 is very secure compared to the 591. Make sure you lock it and it’s not going anywhere

It should be fine, just make sure it doesn’t move or vibrate against the frame. If it moves around it could interfere with the shock or damage the paint. You might want to wrap some kind of foam padding around the frame at that spot.
