Two Ukrainian refugees are pedaling with purpose. They are cycling across the US right now to raise money for the troops fighting the war in their homeland. WCCO’s Marielle Mohs caught up with them while they made their way through Minneapolis.
two Ukrainian refugees are pedaling with purpose they are cycling across the us right now to raise money for the troops fighting the war in their Homeland wcco’s Mar Mo caught up with them as they made their way through Minneapolis that I had a dream to uh go learn more about the United States the culture the real America that dream started with dipping wheels in the Pacific Ocean in Los Angeles 64 days ago in that time friends an bu NOA and Alexander kolu have biked 2,000 miles through Mountains snow and farmland to finally get here to Minnesota it’s green um and it’s very nice I love the you know the amount of rivers you have with just their bikes and a couple of packs of items they’re traveling Coast to Coast with the mission of raising money for the Ukrainian Army as well as buy a new ambulance vehicle for the kids hospital in harke the two are Ukrainian refugees who still have family in war torn areas they see the bumping from their window and uh a lot of Americans don’t know about it a lot of people don’t even know that the war is still going but this bike Journey opened their eyes to more generosity than they expected strangers helping them along the way they’re they’re feeding us they’re they’re putting us to a place to sleep they’re helping uh with our bikes they’re taking our bikes for maintenance they’re also surprised by how many Ukrainian communities exist throughout the country especially here in Minnesota the Ukrainian American Community Center in Northeast Minneapolis took them in and minneapolis’s well-known Ukrainian Restaurant kamark gave them bike jerseys for their Journey signed by the staff this trip about people this trip about kindness about love in Northeast Minneapolis Mariel Moos WCCO news their goal is to get to New York City on Independence Day July 4th it’ll be a hustle they have to bike over 1,200 miles to get there
