Hello! I bought a box of parts off of a guy on craigslist and am working on putting together my first vintage bicycle – a (supposedly) 1951 J.C. Higgins Women's Colorflow cruiser.
I believe I have all parts except for the rack, rear skirts, and front light/lamp, but that's no worries.

When I try to find the correct configuration for the front wheel connection, I have a hard time finding the right terminology. The fork connects to a pair of metal brackets, which also connect to the front mudguard via supports and to the suspension (additionally, what is the proper name for this kind of set up? It is a large coiled spring bolted to a U-shaped bar that connects to the aforementioned bracket).

What is the name for this type of front-wheel bracket? or the name of this sort of connection?

If one wanted to put the wheels directly into the fork, would there be an issue there apart from the lack of front-end suspension?

Here is a reference image of a similar bicycle:

Still learning, so thanks!
