Hi, I'm on mobile so sorry about the formatting.

I'm 6'8" (203cm) tall and I'm mainly looking to buy a bike for commuting and exercising on roads and it's a bit hilly where I live. I also "dream" of going for longer tours/bikepacking rides in the future and I'm looking to stay comfortable.

With that in mind, I'm looking to buy the Pelago Stavanger in the picture with a frame of 60cm or a Fuji Touring Disc Ltd.

I could get the Pelago for a bit over 1500€, which is a huge discount because of a smallish dent on the top of the frame (seen in the second picture). More about the dent later.

Now, my second option, which I was going to buy before finding the Pelago, is the Fuji Touring Disc Ltd with a 64cm frame for 1464€.

Comparison between the two bikes:

I'm mainly concerned with the geometry and the amount of gears. The geometry is almost the same between the two frames, or at least to my understanding.

Stack/reach for the Pelago is 648mm/415mm and for the Fuji 657mm/403mm. Could either of them work for me with an inseam of 98cm?

What comes to the gear amount, the Pelago is a 1×11 while the Fuji has a much wider range of gears which would probably suit me better, but I think that I could manage the 1×11.

Also, I'm a bit concerned about the dent on the Pelago which came from, according to the store, dropping the frame. Although it is a steel frame so I think that it will hold on. There is a risk of it rusting though, and I'm not looking to buy a new frame in a few years.

What do you think, is there much difference between the two? Should I go for the Pelago and if yes, am I getting a good deal for it?

  1. Also to add, I did do a short test ride on the Pelago (around a parking lot due to me being in a hurry), and it is the only 60cm+ bike that Ive been able to test. It did feel ok to me but it is hard to tell what it would feel like on a longer ride. But it does seem to work.

  2. That dent is not smallish, but took quite some force. Also it has a sharp edge. I would not pay substantial money for that bike.

  3. You need the 63cm frame. The 60 is just too small for you. I’m 6’7″ and have looked at their geometry and would not buy the 60. I don’t think Fuji do a bike big enough for you.

  4. you dont pay 1500 € for a bike with a dent, especially a dent like that. you want a pristine frame and bike for that money.

  5. Hey man, unfortunately I have to agree with some of the other posters and say that dent looks pretty intense. I would probably steer clear of that frame.

On another note, Im also a pretty tall dude, (6’6″) and I would say a 60cm frame is most likely on the small side for you. I just picked up a 63cm 90’s cannondale frame and its one of the best fitting bikes (for me) ive ever owned. Maybe keep your eyes peeled for some cannondale frames on secondhand websites and go ride one! They have been one of the only companies to always make frames tall enough for people like you and I, and there have some cool touring bikes that clear large tires!
