I found this Italian stallion on an online bike retailer that specialises in refurbished bikes. This one caught my eye for obvious reasons, but also it was priced at around 60% less than MSRP (around 9500 euros). Upon closer inspection of the photos, it had clearly some heavy surface wear on the right crank arm, as well a what appeared to be black paint splatters under the down tube, bottom bracket and seat stays. I figured those 2 reasons must have been why the bike was priced so “cheap”. But I took the plunge anyway. I could live with the wear to the crank (if not that’s a relatively cheap thing to replace, and I need a power meter anyway), and I would try to remove the plain splatters with a clay block or some gasoline and a rag, and if that doesn’t do it oh well at least its’ black and matches the decals. So I took the plunge (literally the most expensive purchase of my life, not including my house).
Today the bike arrived….and praise the bike gods, the “paint” wasn’t actually paint but just some black stick muck that comes off pretty easily with some water and a rag. Having cleaned all that off, the frame is basically 100% brand new with zero signs of wear! Same goes for every other component except for the aforementioned crank and tiny scratches on the rear derailleur.
I’ve always wanted a Wilier, and this colour is just so sexy. I think I’n in love…
