Sharing this for a couple reasons. The first is that, now looking back it’s semi-hilarious. It’s also a damned good reminder for people: DO NOT OFF LEASH WALK DOGS IN AREAS YOURE NOT SUPPOSED TO!!
Long story short, attacked by off leash dog. Eventually by off leash dogs owner. (Verbally, not physically) got back on my bike and rode 4ish miles to my truck.
Little longer story, is that I was on mile 13 of a ride that had me finish on a fairly well travelled path. I came around a bend and must have spooked pup and owner. Dog went for me from right to left below my frame, and grabbed my left ankle and crank. I rolled pretty good, landed hard- like ass over teakettle flip, onto my shoulder and all.
The dog got thrown a fair way, and wasn’t moving. The lady starts screaming at me about it, “why did you hit my dog…”
I remove myself from the situation, ride back to the truck. Thinking “I’ll survive…”
Come two days later in excruciating pain, a doctors visit later- torn labrum, compressed AC joint, two fractures. Shite deal.
What shocked me? The bike pic is post accident. The seat rotates a little and I had to tweak the derailleur a little. Nothing else wrong.
The reason it’s the “killer bike incident?” The port pup didn’t survive because his owner is a dumbass.
