here's my problem : i have two chain length rulers. One goes all the way in on the +0.075mm side, the other not.
Chain is a sram xx1 on a sram apex 1 groupset. Any advice ?

SRAM has posted that 0.8% of stretch on a chain is the limit where you should get a new one, and it’s about the same on 12s shimano systems too (0.75%). So you should be fine for now

Chains do not wear out eavenly. Some links will deteriorate quicker, than the others. The most worn out part of the chain is whats gonna grind down your cassette and chainrings over time.
Try to use the tool, that didn’t go all the way in at the position where the other tool went in. If it also goes in at that position, you should replace the chain. If not, check in a few other positions.
Also you should always rest these tools in the inner links. Because if you rest them in a outer link, they might catch the plate instead of the roller.
If one tool still tells you the chain is worn, and the other doesn’t, you’re in a bit of a dilemma. One tool is clearly off.

Yeah we had this issue at the shop. Ended up ordering one from a brand I trust. (Park tool) And threw out the lines that didn’t match that. They do wear out or can bend out with a small drop and you wouldn’t know.

I always recommend replacing a 12 speed chain at .5, if you wait until .75 you may need to replace the cassette and chainring as well.

That’s why you never own an even number of the same measuring tool, use a third one and make it a majority vote.
