Join me on an epic journey through the 100 Climbs Sheffield Challenge Sportive! Experience the thrill and struggle as I tackle some of the steepest and most challenging climbs in the country, including the notorious Bamford Clough with its daunting 35% gradient. Despite the torrential rain and slippery conditions, I powered through my first-ever sportive, hosted by cycling hill climb legend Simon Warren. Watch as I conquer each climb and face the elements. I later learned that only one rider, a 15-year-old, managed to ride up Bamford Clough without walking! Don’t miss this wet and wild adventure on two wheels!

The 9 climbs included on this journey were; Bamford Clough, Curbar Edge, Middleton Lane, Froggatt, Burbage More (AKA The Dale), Wheel Lane, Oughtibridge Lane (AKA Jawbone Climb), Spout Lane and Lodge Lane.

I think I’m in the right place lots of people with Vans and bikes coming out looking very thin Looking ready to climb want it want it want it how right you fun to meet you yes F to meet you let go this guy’s met did you actually did you work you just yeah promise yeah um yeah the come this guy just could ride the clouds all day every day it’s multiple climbs in like one day yeah upload it and Ed yeah so one day you’re in southeast the next day you’re the L District it just looks like you’re just driving up and down the country morning morning sorry Andrew here shot in the foot there the a entered there you go sign morning we got scan scan this one to load the event okay and then scan that when you start and then oh yeah there’s your number and then top of each another one there’s a black there’s a green one at the bottom of each clim and there’s a black one at the top of each clim you have to do both no just scan the one at the top there’s no QR code in the green one just at the top and then that’ll give you your points you should see each of the other the people crossing there going to do a different route so wave to each other right you’re in started number good have a good day got a jacket yeah yeah just in case think it’s going to be needed yeah here we go start the big ride first ever sport te going the deep end we’re officially in the Pete District now oh good those signs are always the uh how are they the Gateway yeah just about to go down the Dale and if you look over there I’m pretty sure that’s banford rocks fford Edge I’m sure once you get to the bottom that’s the way we’re going to be heading get this first hellish climb out the way I haven’t ever been this scared before a climb in my life not made better by the fact it’s raining I’ve just been speaking to someone who walked it yesterday who said there’s still loads of leaves on the road so slipping ain’t going to be ideal on it on it right sorry for banford we’re in the danger zone here we go bford Club bike’s not going in morning GE there we go bit of a mishap there but I’m that’s annoying it won’t stay in the 42 oh God there we go not going again oh God here we go the wheel is going everywhere try I get [Music] I think I’d be still struggling anyway if it wasn’t raining [Music] NOP back oh what a shame we’re not getting up in one this look out the pitchure is not going to be giving this justice but this is ridiculous we’ll get back on the bike again in a sec all three two one three two one there you go all right now you won’t get up without wheel spinning I just thought I’ve tried that before the thing just on the B right so we’re vir at the top of Bamford kff now I think that’s banford cluff one and dra on two wheels nil assisted by mud and uh wheel spins nice views over the top going to go stop off of that petrol station here so to try to save a bit of weight purposely went B for clu with nothing in my water bottles which would have saved a kilo and a half but now very much they need fit it up right we’re on the way to three clowns really close to each other first up cubar Edge I’ve probably said that wrong sure someone will correct me in the comments then we’ve got Middleton he Middleton Lane and then after that we’ve got Frogger then after we’ve done that we’ll head over to the Dale before heading to the north side of this sport legs are feel strong despite the uh not deal weather enjoying it so far see if I’m feeling that still towards the save where you get towards clim 7 8 and N there we go there’s the sign Max 16% that said and saw behind me right that you’re on the 100 climbs yes that’s yourself yeah not too bad how you uh been getting on with it this morning this is just my second clim really same what was your first did did frog it okay which was a lot easier than this one I think yeah it is yeah just a shame about the weather isn’t it oh the weather is awful shocking nearly at the top just a nice chat with Gordon there doing similar to me he’s only doing the 40 said if it was nice WEA he may have uh put a few more if it wasn’t playoff final day I may have decided to do a few more hoping to be done as close to 3:00 as possible and hope you watch might whites go up even that we I’m going to be depressed going back on the train tonight there it is on the right it’s in a good hiding spot isn’t it well we get to go down cubar Edge now it’s on you right mate look at it mate H yeah all that one wasn’t too bad it’s not the uh the hardest hardest to find still a challenging though here we are next left got a sign there average 7% Max 18% this is steeper than I was expecting all yeah right [Music] few going up this one now did enjoy that CL started off steep get that stuff out the way I enjoyed the view at the top we’re about to go down that steep stuff again now 20% Maybe it felt like it was slightly more than that anyway steep much more enjoyable going up it you’re descending like this on the brakes and we’re clear just had a mini heart attack I thought I was having a puncture I was oh no turns out it was someone in their Garden just raking some leaves out the the way and scraping on the uh on the concrete but my heart just sank then cannot be asked with a puncture in this weather there it is EAS the start here we go oh going for a swim that’s going to be FY right here the official start of froggit he how you doing about to you well yourself that again SC me only [Applause] [Applause] Whispering quietly but I think the clouds are rising we may be getting a dryer spell fingers crossed all right here we go clim number five the Dale bird Bridge m he [Music] [Music] mate got a mile left that’s halfway up the clim and apparently I’m nearly a minute faster than last time I did two 3 years AO good [Music] [Music] [Music] there we go and the climb number five oh again what we doing oh right we’re about to go down Lodge Lane so it’s not the official clim at the minute I’m going down it but we’ll be coming back up here later which will be our last time I think early signs the road service looks good hello again there it looks it oh that’s why it feels dodgy here and change it Z there we go bin put the inner tube in De thr his inner tube in the bin in my back pocket about to go down spout Lane as well we going back up this again later right [Music] it did look like I was going to be able to get back in time for kickoff the playoff final but I think that puncture just put that out the window now unfortunately someone’s dropped a lot of mud here toward the France sign there we’re not far away at all here we are Wheel Lane there we go we’re on the clim proper hidden know that was if you didn’t know you was looking for it quite easily go past that I’m sure load have today as well [Music] Coldwell hill by the amount of rain we’ve had today the Well’s definitely full having the mud all time to go back down Wheel Lane into Jawbone got that there you go there we go here start don’t now what you going to see is this we just Lely weather again only positive about this weather is it kept me from overheating quite good I’m starting to get fed up wet now piss me off that’s cool so what [Music] now so s CLS done now on the way back towards Sheffield less than 10 miles to go less than an hour to kick off soon the radio leads on in the headphones sun’s out please stay out getting ready for the penultimate climb he you hope we win today got one more climb to do we are 1 minute away from kickoff I’m already absolute wreck I think that’s it over there for the left was over there earlier for my puncture come on l [Music] [Music] here we go Lodge Lane done nine climbs done let’s scan this and go back to the start right now back to the Finish back to the Village Hall scan the Finish get some food Oh my legs are okay my back’s starting to hurt oh piss off arriving back into the village hall now I was that tired and engrossed in the playoff final I forgot to film an outro and a summary of the ride a really well organized event I love the fact that you could plan your own Route Around what you wanted to do I focused on the six climbs I hadn’t already done and I had a few extras just to make up the 40 points required to be a finisher pizza at the end was great get loads of calories back in especially as I burnt over 4,000 calories during that ride speaking to Simon afterwards only one of the 77 Riders got up banford K without walking and it was a 15-year-old I couldn’t believe that he said though that he’ll be turning pro in a few years insanely strong Rider looking forward to the next 100 climb sportive which all been well I will be there Simon has confirmed there will be another one so I eagerly await the details for that if you enjoyed watch me suffer up these climbs today in the rain I want to see more hill climbs don’t forget to subscribe to my channel comment below which was your favorite climb thanks for watching and I’ll see you next time

  1. That's a cracking video Andrew. 👏👏👏I'm grateful for all your time and trouble in putting it all together and bringing back the day. 👍 I'm glad to have avoided Bamford, I'd need my MTB for that. Agree about the traffic on Froggatt, that was my first one so I'm glad l did it early. And you got a puncture?! 😰Bad luck and not what you need especially when it's chucking it down and some. 💦Well done and fingers crossed conditions will be a bit more agreeable next time round when we can all enjoy it even more.

  2. Saw your post in the 100 climbs Strava club and gave the vid a watch whilst procrastinating from work. Thoroughly enjoyed and looks like a great event!
I’m getting back into cycling after 4 years off the bike and this looks like the kind of sadistic hell I would look forward to 🤌🤣
Dropped a sub for your trouble 👍🏻
