Dear Bromptoneers,

How many seatpost bungs did you lose before you threw up your hands and said *enough!* ?

Riding around yesterday I lost my second seatpost bung. I heard it happen on a smooth stretch of roadway, not a pebble in sight. I have two “[official](https://us.brompton.com/p/743/seatpost-bung)” bungs (that came with other Brompton parts) and two “knockoffs” from ebay so risking life and limb to retrieve it wasn’t worth it. But this is third time (rescued the original bung the first time it fell out) a bung has fallen out in under year. If they continue to fall out this easily my magic number will be 6. Once I go through what I have on hand I can’t justify spending money on replacements.

Did Brompton ever explain why they changed from the old style bung that stayed put to this press fit version that falls out all the time?

Do any third parties make a v1 replica?

  1. I jammed my bung in with elastic bands going vertical in the tube, and cut off the loose ends that are sticking out, then I never lost one in 2.5 yrs.

  2. I’m happy to have the old screw-type version – I store stuff in my frame and seat tubes and would hate to lose them.
