Woo! Just finished upgrading my Gravity Liberty GRV XTL from bikes direct from the basic Chinese 14 speed to a 21 speed Shimano crankset and new Shimano tourney front derailleur. Small feat for many but a huge win to me!
This is my first road / gravel bike and I’m happy to have lower gear ratios now for nasty climbs.

Getting experience wrenching on your own gear is invaluable. Nothing beats successfully completing an upgrade like that. I remember my first significant DIY: swapping out an old Ultegra 10 speed short cage rear derailleur for a Deore XT I found on ebay to get extra clearance for a larger cassette, then the feeling of having it work flawlessly.
