after recently beating some sense into myself and almost paying $2700 for a commencal clash with an sx drivetrain, i decided to go with my secondary option i was considering- the yt capra core 1. the only issue, is that i'm not sure if a carpra will be too much travel.
The concerns with the capra:
1: will efficiency be impacted by longer travel?

2: is 170mm travel going to develop lazy habits, relying too much on a monstertruck of a bike, ignoring line optimization and just generally plowing over roots rocks etc that would make the trail more fun

3: i'd be paying a few hundred more for a capra, so i really want to make sure i dont spend 200 more for a bike that'll be overgunned for my locals when i'm not at the park.

4: this one kind of crosses over into the concerns with the jeffsy, an nx eagle drivetrain. i personally dont think this would be an issue or even a concern since i'm not too nit picky about components due to my budget, but some people have had issues with the groupset.

and as for the jeffsy my main concern if any at all is that i might be underbiked at heavier duty parks. like i said, this doesnt seem like too big of an issue because my uncle that has rode everywhere from moab to whisler on his canyon spectral hasnt had any issues.

any advice would be greatly appreciated. i'm not particularly leaning towards either one, i just want to make the right decision, especially since this is going to be the biggest purchace of my life(which i'm fine with, i've been planning on this for years)

  1. If you can afford only one bike I would be rather over than underbiked. Better being a little slower then not being able to ride the gnarly stuff you want to.

  2. I would say as a Jeffsy owner that it is a surprisingly capable bike honestly I even find it is too much bike for a good portion of my local trails. Now I do find it can get kinda bogged down on some of the gnarlier bike park trails (double black and some black diamond trails) for anything else though it is honestly a little beast. If you go to the bike park say more than once a week I would probably recommend the capra but other than that I would probably go with the Jeffsy unless you really like to bomb down the trails.

  3. Capra. The only thing that climbs is your legs. I rode one for a couple years and passed people all the time on climbs and (obviously) on descents. If you don’t “need” the 170mm of travel you won’t use it. But when you do need it you’re happy it’s there.

  4. the capra has one of the most progressive linkages on the market, you will only use 170 mm if you really need it. Mostly it will feellike a <160 mm bike.
