Is it safe to have my rear wheel like this? And not all the way into the drop out? I can’t push it in because my chain ends up becoming too long. Please let me know
Hey OP have you tried taking a link or two out of ur chain? That’s probably the safest solution. If u don’t know how I’m sure Park Tools has a video on YouTube that can explain far better than I can.

From a bicycle engineering standpoint, you are applying force to the least supported section of the horizontal forks. The fix is as easy as shortening the chain by a link or two. Also when frame building, wheelbases are measured in millimeters so it is lengthening your wheelbase which in turn would impact responsiveness.
With all that said, it’s probably fine. Just a bike nerd’s two cents✌🏻 cheers

Haha you missed all the previous posts about it?

Just take a link or two out and pull your axle in a little. It’s not “likely” it’ll break as it is, but it’s also not worth potentially breaking a dropout.

Your rear axle bolt already has empty space where it’s grabbing (the space in the dropouts itself) you don’t also want to take away gripping surface from those bolts by having them hang off the back like that. Yes it is unsafe, remove links, do it right

Lol yes it is absolutely

Yes it is safe. But it is ugly lol

Nope.
Mean, sure, shouldn’t be a problem.
But you can just remove two links and its golden.

It’s fine but I’d take off a link when I got the chance . Just make sure you tighten it decently . I come from a BMX background and I’ve seen guys ride hard with wheels like that , it was always spooky . Better to be safe then sorry
