Ep20. Road & towpath cycling. Gravel bike ride. Frampton, Purton Ship Graveyard, Café & Gelato stop.

A gorgeous Sunday here in the U.K meant heading out on the bikes for a Café and gelato ride. We cycled around the beautiful country lanes of Elmore, Longney, Saul and Frampton and alongside the River Severn and canal, utilising the towpath. We stopped for a tasty lunch at Ley Bistro in Frampton, visited Purton’s Ship Graveyard and then made it to Wholly Cow just in time to grab a well deserved gelato at the end of the ride.

One of my favourite areas to ride, absolutely stunning countryside and flat as a pancake! 😂

hello everybody I hope you’re all well it is a beautiful day the sun is shining blue skies little bit of a breeze so we’re out for a road ride although I am on my gravel bike um just through like Elmo down to Frampton probably oh little Hill to start off with not a hill little slope is holy cow gelato we’re going here first are we I thought we’d be coming back I need to um my stem’s completely off at that oh okay you need to sort that out I thought we’d be coming back at the end yeah candy so we need to fix that first yeah need to go and earn some ice cream Tom just needed to fix something else on his bike I think he did the stem up crooked but we shall be back for ice cream later this is quite a flat well I mean it’s pancake flat this ride will be today it really is lovely out around these Lanes this is one of my favorite places to come cycle actually apart from around our local area tell you what when I first started cycling I found that first little slope that we did back there really hard work I’ve gone so much better since then much fitter and healthier bought the gravel bike because we’re doing a bit of toe path later which to be honest it’s fine doing on the road bike done it lots of times but it’s infinitely more comfortable going along it on the gravel bike so quicker too he yeah hi yeah we had to park in a different place than we usually do today half the car park was shut off and it was packed so that’s okay though we used to cycle around here loads as well before we um got started up again doing it regularly always been a favorite it’s very popular around here with cyclists than used to walk around here quite a lot as well sort of along the canal and then up and around the lanes I only had my mountain bike back in the day when we used to come around here it’s quite Pleasant doing it on road bikes even the gravel bike we’re just coming up to where you get a nice view across the river lovely along here gorgeous there there a forest over there somewhere where we’ve come from this morning probably see our house from here yeah probably maybe car re goodness it’s busy I’m glad I slathered a load of Vaseline over my lips are getting really dry already my skin dries out quite a lot of cycling as well I don’t know if anyone else gets that always have to put plenty of moisturizer on which in general I’m not a moisturizing kind of girl I only do it because we’re out cycling and my skin gets dried out another nice stretch close to the river can see May Hill from here let me see if I can there that hill over there I don’t know it might be too hazy with the trees in the middle you can always pick it out it’s very distinctive that is May Hill which we’ve been up a few times it’s quite nice up there I saw an Adder up there one time when I was younger this used to tie me out as well coming up here to be fair when we were cycling years ago on my mountain bike that was quite heavy I think it’s about 17 18 kg and I’m only little so that’s quite a lot to heft uphill hi getting on on this bike today then all right so far good I was just saying that looks quite steep up there but I know it’s not yeah this bit I always used to find tires me out as well but you get used to it don’t you it’s quite a good judge of progress coming around here yeah we know it we know how we perform on it oh yeah and that’s why you need to check under your car before you drive off a lot of potholes down here so be careful something went over my face there trouble with the countryside [Music] delightful turning in we forgot about that that very badly indicated on my pot completely forgot there’s a turn there yeah I don’t think there was anything coming behind me but I feel like we’re blasting around this today yeah I don’t think we’re even going that fast but it just feels a lot quicker than we usually do it granted it has been a few months since we’ve been round but now it’s getting good weather and that I expect we’ll venture over this way more often is nice to get out somewhat different on the bike as lovely as it is just being able to straight out the door at home but ordinarily I’d be complaining that there’s a headwind it’s actually quite nice that church is very pretty you guys have to let me know if I’m chatting too much over videos because now I’m getting into the swing of things I’m chatting way like I would usually do to um like my family and friends and that and I can be quite chat so if you want less chatter and more cycling you have to let me know hi oh it’s warm it’s warm that headwind was actually quite nice I was like oh lovely give me some more of that it’s going to be busy along this bit we going past shagger Lane again it’s it there isn’t it yeah this is Frampton it’s very pretty thanks this is a lovely place to come there’s always a lot of people here but there’s a nice cafe up here liistro so we should be stopping there and getting something to eat and drink there we are we can perch here can’t we yep where you going on the end rickety there there we’ve stopped here um liistro in Frampton we’re just going to get a snack I think a sandwich we can set outside there’s a table here so it’s lovely the food’s good here looking forward to something to eat I’m actually quite hungry and very thirsty too so yummy I’ve actually already started eating sorry so like some of this is gone but um I have a Mediterranean melt Panini which is really good it’s got all sorts in there it’s a bit like a pizza actually and um we got some chips between us and what have you got a ham ham salad I know you’ve got food in your mouth ham salad it looks like y very tasty cool this doesn’t want to flip there we go big tractor tractor oh there’s another one there look is it what part of that thing Swan peeps have to look that up when we get home see what that’s about yeah oh that breeze is so good three on your right thank you ah lovely bit of toe path lovely bit of squirrel oh this is going to jiggle the lunch vout isn’t it out of my um redest stem carbon seat post on no you don’t do you going be a bit jiggly oh that little doggy go hi yeah thank you excuse me do good dog thank you very much always love this house up here it’s right next to the canal it’s a bit dodgy filming onehanded along here oh oh yeah it’s busy it’s lovely I should imagine they get lots of people coming along here staring at their house going all that’s lovely though definitely more comfortable coming along here on the gravel bik all the boats oh there’s some people paddle boarding as well know people paddle boarded down the canal I suppose they would do there we are some more swans over there as well taking your life in John’s down here fish up in my mou you got to watch fishing rods across the park as well just said that oh did you fishing rods and ares yeah yeah oh they got some gear on them these days literally just said that my brother I don’t remember him ever going out with this much gear didn’t e just used to have a net and a rod yeah that’s it everyone’s got like trolleys and that now now oh hi yeah cheers thanks kind of wish I had my film camera because of the boats I would have got some nice shots but I still need to pick up something that I don’t mind getting thrown in the back of the bike not happy with throwing a lot of them in the you can buy that little Nikon 35 mil point and shoot I’ve got off me yeah I kind of don’t want a point and shoot though I’d rather um have something that I can use properly manual settings it is quite lovely up here look at that bridge there’s some good ones along here I do like a bridge so that is quite a beautiful boat look at all the gates and the used all these Gates here lovely and the rxs should be where are the rxs on the right somewhere you can go down that way or here I think go have a look I don’t know if you can ride down there very easily mind oh that’s right we can get off and have a look can’t we ah there we are look so yeah we’re at Peron now which if you can see behind me there and over there basically it’s a ship’s graveyard well they purposely beached ships here um to stop the River from eroding into the canal which is just behind me over there so yeah there’s lots of um shipwrecks along here it’s quite a cool place good place to come for some photography or just for a visit and have a look we need to get to that bridge before that boat that’ss it’s already open aher isn’t it it is now yeah oh it’s that one we’re going over not this one yeah okay oh well it’s interesting to [Music] watch there we go that was a nice little treat thr a Blake oh that’s lovely nice breeze quite a hefty one actually but it is lovely I see a hill there is a hill that must be the 500 ft of cling it’s probably not as bad once you get on it ah I was nothing it’s always fun driving up here when someone comes the other way these are the type of lanes I like decent tall M I like my elevation profile on my map with the dead Flat Line stop here yeah just a little quick drink okay let’s go co look at this what a lovely straight bit of this is the kind of road we like get a car come now a tractor yeah beautiful sh about the wind I’m enjoying the wind today do you know what I was saying I usually be complaining my butt off about a headwind but I’m enjoying it it’s very cooling I hope the gelato place is going to be open maybe I really want my gelato they might shut at 4 oh well that’s fairly good timing I suppose oh he’s got there’s more to path yeah need good biceps for thato good workout by the end of the day few years ago would have been twice as busy seem to be disappear bit less tote PA though isn’t it yeah a little bit not as much as we had before thank you very much enjoy the rest of your day you’d rather do this than the a38 though wouldn’t you yeah why I plotted it h oh my nose itches again do you know we’re doing Road Cadence along gravel I noticed it on the way up yeah we’re pedaling away like crazy to gear up a bit not that it matters you do what you’re comfortable with some beautiful walls but little that are M that’s cool Scamp it said little sure what that is thingy Tom will know what that is no oh you don’t car rare hi yeah hi yeah hey yeah I think we we’re going to miss the ice cream place really we come out the other side of it I think so oh boo unless we drive to it maybe you should check if it’s open when we maybe we should stop and have a peek I think we’re par must have an opening time yeah there back at Holy Cow again well deserved ice cream goodness that’s a big quue he’s a big c who we get a guess guess I’ll wait here you need to choose your flavor mint mint yeah well then we’re back at holy cow the holy cow it’s a big queue it is a big queue but um I’m going to go join it and get some well deserved ice cream yummy they do really good to here right off I go ice cream oh it’s dripping I need to eat it well we’ve just had our gelato that was really delicious and now we’re just heading back to the van cool there’s a bit of the headwind on at the moment anyway going to call it a day so thank you very much for watching and we will see you next time
