    As promised, I wanted to follow up [on this thread from yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/1d3r6hk/how_would_you_secure_this_rear_rack_to_the_front/) when I asked for suggestions on how to repurpose this old Linus rear rack as a front rack. I got some grief from people saying that it wouldn’t work or that it was a really bad idea.

    I decided to repurpose the old front reflector mount to secure the rack to the fork. I picked up a couple of 30 mm M5 bolts and 1/2″ spacers from the store today and used those to secure the rack to the lower eyelets. As a temporary fix, I used a couple of zip-ties to keep the rack attached to the reflector mount, but plan to find a u-bolt or something else that will be more durable/safe.

    Otherwise, just from a quick and dirty mock-up and push and tugging on the rack, it seems pretty secure. I also don’t plan to put more than 10-20 lbs worth of load in it, max. The rack itself is rated for 40 lbs, but I figured cut that in half to be safe. Hopefully these threads inspired others to do something unconventional with parts you already have laying around!

  2. Genius. It’s probably worth grabbing a cutoff wheel and removing the no longer needed attachment arms I would think. No reason to keep them if you see it being a permanent front rack.

    Also, I am not a welder so I don’t know the feasibility of this suggestion but if it is possible I would get some thin flat bar stock and have a welder weld the bar stock to the bracket and then the bar stock to the underside of the “U” shaped piece of the the now unused attachment arms as well as the two outer rails of the rack. If it’s all steel that is I guess. I would think that would take a welder 5 minutes to accomplish and cost next to nothing. And it would be much more stable and permanent.

    My 2 cents anyway.
