I was just taking a look at the back of my bike to see about installing a rack for a basket, when I noticed my tire. Pretty new to bike maintenance, so I called my dad, who told me he’s never seen anything like that and to get them replaced immediately. 😅

Did you drag your bike over a barbed wire fence during a prison break? I got no ideas other than that.
Dry rot?
I’ve similar (but non-penetrating) scratches on my tires from rubbing curbs. Maybe, if I rubbed curb then allowed 8 years to dry rot, this is what they’d look like?
Usually from being.ridden at too low a pressure and being old
Do you store your bike out in the hot sunlight?
Bike tires should be stored in a dark cool place or even better: Worn down before they start cracking.
Did you install the tyres with the correct rotation?
