Recently got sober from alcohol, three months May 26th, yesterday was my first bike ride in over five years. I didn't get a car till I was 21, I rode hundreds of miles a week and alcoholism took over. I bought a car, I gained weight, I spent hundreds of dollars a week on alcohol.
I have tried quitting before: inpatient/outpatient, religion/church, counseling, medication… The month of February my friend was admitted to the hospital and remained on life support until the 24th of February. I was wasted when I received the call I'd never see him again. I lost the desire to drink and assimilate the idea and feeling with significant loss.
I'm ready now, though I'm not sure what for. It's going to be good. Everything is beautiful.
This is my new bike, it's heavy and old. It's my fourth bike I've purchased since sober. I've taken them apart, I've cleaned and greased them, I've put them back together and absolutely love having a hobby that is positive.
I really fucking miss you, Bara, but I see you still everyday. I want y'all to know we all have meaning, we all have much to give.
I don't know who needs it, but you got this. It's worth it. It's getting better.

Preach brother. Legitimately touched here. Sorry for your loss and happy for your paradigm shift.
When the sadness takes you, ride it till the wheels fall off!
I did the same thing. I was always into bikes but really dove in when I got sober 8 years ago.
Good for you brother! Stay strong 💪 Ride Bikes 🚲
Three months sober is fucking great, these bikes help me stay sober too. I really like the paint job on that one.
I recently bought a Schwinn that was made a few months before I was born and it was still like new aside for some oxidation. I feel like I’m giving it a new life like being sober is doing for me if that makes any sense.
I’m happy for you comrade. I am too am a sober person for whom bikes are a key element of my sobriety.
You got this ! I’m almost two years sober and things do get better. It Might not happen right away but it will happen.
This is so inspirational as I find myself going through half a bottle of wine while wrenching on the bikes in the evening, then I ride the bike to the pub for happy hour the next day. I really need to stop doing that.
