I got a [Riese & Müller Multicharger](https://i.imgur.com/IwZ49ky.jpg) from my work for free.
The expectation is that I can use it to commute to work and also ride to customers, delivering hardware (I’m an IT tech).
Unfortunately, I hate it. I’m into single speed and want to get some exercise in while I commute, not just turn the pedals on an e-bike, but once I’m at work, I need the bike for my job.

So what I’ve been doing is shift into a gear that gives me a cadence of ~95 at 25km/h and ride the bike to work without shifting and without using the motor. It’s the heaviest single speed in the world.
When I’m working, I ride it normally, cause I’m not on my own time and it’s loaded with even more weight.
Yes, I know I’m weird.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting the things you do in life to be meaningful. If not using the motor helps you have a more embodied and meaningful riding experience, do it. If you’re going to be a disembodied consciousness floating around just observing your surroundings, you might as well be in an air conditioned car, surrounded by protective metal, while listening to an engrossing podcast. I like “feeling“ the ride, so I’m with you on this.

  2. Oh god it’s horrible. Couldn’t they have at least given you the option of a Larry vs Harry Bullit? (With or without electronic assist)
