Good luck Emma & Henoka Giro dβItalia 2024 – Stage 17 .π΄ββοΈπͺπ·πͺπ·π΄ββοΈπͺπ·πͺπ·
yeah ladies and gents reminiscing the old good time yes we’re going to take you back to 1991 come on the time that we will never forget the legendary [Music] foreign foreign foreign [Music] [Music] speech [Music] [Music] foree for for [Music] a [Music] [Music] 7 [Music] [Music] Neal [Music] [Music] yes straight up so I imagine a lot of riders would walk up R those uh those Riders who are intent on getting in the break today because there’s every chance that the breakway will go over the pass cell in the opening 9 kilometers of today’s stage y very much so but like you say there’s quite a steep drop off and then there’s a very not super steep valer but there’s a lot of descending um best part of 30 yeah nearly 30k is actually descending all the way down to the intermediate Sprint Point opportunity for Riders to get back on so it’s going to need to open up a considerable Gap and again all depends on the combination of riders but it’s going to be a little bit different it’s going to be Riders combinate breakes form so so differently on Fast flat roads uh but this opening few kilometers are going to be so selective it’s just purely going to be rers with with good legs um if you you can’t go with a move you can’t go with the move you can’t just float into a move on a day like this so it’s going to be very very selective early on unfortunately uh this man’s got to go to work he can’t sign every single autograph T pagach does his best doesn’t he to accommodate the fans what a superstar he [Applause] [Music] is being offered a few extra bits of clothing refusing them taking his place alongside Julian Al Philip who won the public vote for the most aggressive Rider on yesterday’s stage quite rightly I think yeah so he’s got the old double Doss numbers he’s got the green Doss numbers on his back today for the winner of the inter jro in the red for the competitivity award that was funny Al Al was just saying this is my first jro as well that’s quite amazing isn’t it especially for R that’s been around as as relatively long as as jul Al [Music] fipz when will T Pacha win the World Championships that’s a missing piece in his uh oh yeah definitely I mean surely to goodness is going to have to happen at some point you want to win the Olympic Games Road Race as well y he’s going to want the set the complete as complete a set as he can and the course that we have in Switzerland this year is is a quite a tough one so maybe this year so maybe this year yeah but what a different setup this is from this time yesterday when there were all the discussions going on at the top of the mountain in linho and the snow and there was the Riders protest and the long long discussions with the organization very different circumstances today much shorter stages well 159k a little bit late though uh it’s about to get underway and it’s going to be aggressive and attacking it absolutely has to be from the very start today teams want something out of this race they cannot afford to keep it keep things together otherwise the inevitable may happen again and that’s another victory for T Pacha so teams will have to try and go for it and the off we go then stage 17 a last Mountain test before an opportunity for the sprinters to see how they’ve come out of the mountains and test their legs tomorrow but this one is short sharp sharp and is going to be very good to watch I think yeah I certainly wouldn’t want to be one of the riders in a stage like this if you’re feeling tired though four big Peaks and a mini one if you count the third category parel Goa it’s only a 5% 6K climb in the middle but again hard in flat bit roet it literally is it’s just either descending or climbing four opportunities for the kingdom mountains classification and we’re looking at that before we came on air and it’s mathematically possible for Christian scarone to take the Jersey today but he’s going to have to have an exceptionally good day he’s going to have to win everything yeah it’s good that that competition isn’t quite over it’s going to be hard especially if T patcha fancies another stage win a bit later in this race because we do have more Mountains to come remember yeah there’s not much on offer tomorrow but on stage 19 there are there two cattoos the cat three so a little tally of points there available potentially and then on stage 20 as well yeah and on stage 20 there’s a lots so sconi could close the gap yeah that’s probably more realistic today scooping up absolutely everything to take the Jersey but if you were to take the um the first two climbs first three even the first four climbs here already in Pockets single rers rain and waiting to take it from the car a short but then we have from 8.9 K in to 46.7k in first why obiously fully aware that the racing is likely to be very active so there’s going to be very little opportunity team toop their team on the top of that from rakes 400 me away from yesterday another the road to attack but you never know might but you just never know you just never know and again we had to press on him and was away so long it’s no real surprise that everybody from that initial Breakaway faded because although it was a shorter stage just under three hours was so intense and because of the fact that mistar rode behind there’s no real let up he couldn’t really settle into a more maintainable Rhythm it was just very intense all the way through so I think had Alf managed to finish that one off it would have been well the odds were really stacked against him especially with the amount of fresh legs behind got another Brave battling display from the Frenchman stanio is just having a word want or two of the Riders I think possibly Jonathan Manan right towards the front I haven’t seen any Riders off the back so I think we can get away on time here or rather a bit delayed but hope Y at kilom Z yep and Caleb Yan is on the front too we’ve seen this tactic from him quite often actually to get himself in an early move on the mountain on the first Mountain just to buy himself a little bit of slipping room y was in the break a couple of days ago wasn’t it slightly muted response first yeah Vander Bosch up there as well scaroni Al Philip Tiber so uh just needs one Rider to kick this off does yeah who’s going to start has appeared on the left hand side they might want just a bit more of a warm up I mean it will there’ll be the battle for the points even if they Road up steady here but you can just almost see one of the bani Riders winding up and there we go pazari it is who goes y with Machi it’s not pelari sorry it’s F not F it’s uh it’s mat Lucy and uh is Fel isn’t it yeah I think I think I think yeah he did climb well yesterday that for that the amount he invested him for the interj the other the other day in the the points classification Mel jamino Sprint was absolutely flying bridged across the Gap to Al phip didn’t it was massively impressive Y valter is it attacking yeah till valta fancies a little bit of this and that response by valta not a stinging acceleration it’s just dragged the pelan along behind him well if filipo feli gets over the top in a little group here he’s got the incentive at the bottom of the long descent in about 40 kmers time he has got these uh first bonus Sprints Target to a at interesting riding here from the Hungarian Champion just dragging everybody along deep here isn’t it blimy really is yeah Loop just a few Riders back as well there’s a caution about The Paton at the moment isn’t there yeah a weariness a little bit of a shake of the head there from f as they hit these 9% gradients yeah definitely that’s another bad sign from M I don’t think he’s well he can’t be n because he was getting distance yesterday quite quite early he was even in the neutral did you notice he was kind of looking labored just heading out of town and that’s not a good sign for m at all that’s two or three days in which he has been really on the back foot physically and I think you’re right can only wow I sometimes your form can just fall off the edge of a cliff can’t it but it looks like there’s a deeper set reason potentially than that yeah there’s already a few Simon conon already out the back as well it’s just a a relatively gentle Pace that’s being set here say that relatively Mar van sner on the right hand side G flapping out of the saddle in that style of his and Val’s actually dropped back now Gia already don’t me yeah he’s got his cape on ready for The Descent yeah there’s a few riders that are really starting to suffer now in this race they know it’s going to be a long day ahead but numbers is what you need yeah it is indeed little Trek lead out man Simone conone just on the inside actually U start to to ride now nobody else seemingly interested looks like Novak doesn’t it out of the saddle definitely not in Chase mode cofis launching a rider off the front geska geska and scaroni for the km battle that is a proper acceleration now van shab is also a bit further back on par panra as well in around about fifth place there one of the Riders from M Star yeah se geska but like it’s like wading through Tri on these gradients isn’t it yeah especially when you’re just starting off as well you got they’ve not carried any momentum into this climb yeah um to just starting off relatively cold I don’t know how many riders excuse me we’re warming up before the start but not a lot of time to bed in and quite often the long long you get into a race of this length into a grand tour if you’re a normal Rider we’re not talking about the paches of this world a normal Rider it takes even longer to to warm up you’re just tired it just takes a long time for the legs to get going especially on a climb like this so it’s a good description is pretty much riding like riding through [Music] molasses Jonathan Milan at the back of the pelaton or indeed just off the back he’s still there isn’t he by the looks of it yeah he’s got Dan just starting to go yeah just don’t Max valire the big tall rider just at the back of that group he’s got plenty of teammates around him and as you were saying it’s not um a particularly long climb this one but they’ still got a couple of K technically to the bottom which is a bit Grim blind me that’s a the way they’ve measured this one is quite interesting slightly runs counter to the information that I’ve got there but what we do know is that the top of the uh the top of the climb effect the pass or cell is 1 15.1k to go so I mean they’re climbing already aren’t they whether or not this is the the the official climb or not is rather a moot point yeah Andre boli brings a group of two other Riders across to the front of the race now yeah Stein house are trying to get across as as well the German who was third on the queen stage of this race I think you’d say Sanchez poo Sanchez just in there as well the clear glasses from moar it is indeed David y of of ptica it’s a good little group just starting to move clear that’ll suit Philipa fi that’s uh the constitution of that group some we to work with and build an advantage but uh Al Philip’s attacking off the front yep Al phip dragging this one back we trying to take a group clear and he’s just dragging the whole bunch with him at the moment boli former teammate of julan alip fi takes a glance around oh Mar luy looks looks like it’s hurting him yeah Stein has has got a cross then so that makes it six at the front there’s Al Philip with Luke PL one of the par panras another M Star Jersey visible there good riding by St m is dropping here yeah it just went a little bit too deep it’s almost parked up so so hard put himself Well after going hard so early on let’s look at the differential in Paces Ki coic Jersey yeah and just that looks like his style as well heard from him at the top was very buyant about his chances today and Ambitions and is climbing well he was climbing well yesterday wasn’t he yep there he’s been very solid throughout the J actually without actually getting the Rewards or the results to go with his form but he’s obviously in good Nick and he’s a local Rider as he was explaining in that interview earlier on today philipo ganana beginning to struggle so used to him doing amazing things on mountains that when you see him struggling like this it feels anomalous but however he’s got you know should he has no right to be climbing right to the front on on a race like this he’s just built so heavily isn’t he oh he is not one of the Parry Pan actually she from the catalon I wonder if that’s Alex bodan it looks like it is bodan leading that next little group but it’s definitely Nicol aoni with his jersey with his jile unlit unzipped he was 17th yesterday just behind Lorenzo Fortunato ahead of Roman B Chris Hamilton I think from DSM on the front now yeah lots of looking around here isn’t that just to double check I mean rers just making sure they’re not making efforts that are going to be wasted so you only continue with an effort in a breakaway if there’s a likelihood of it going clear don’t keep riding if there’s a group well not exactly chasing that there’s a group very close behind so that’s why all these roders are just being wary of not committing too much if they push too hard and an attack goes over the top it’s very hard to respond especially in these early stages for the reasons I just talked about just before the uh the engine starts to warm up and fi is actually starting to uh struggle as well so fi has fallen away from this group two so Steiner takes things up this is a solid little group very solid little group but it hasn’t gone yet that’s for sure no swarm of blue light blue dark blue jerseys on the front and it’s the kathin ag2r with one Rider just nipping around the inside of that uh hair pin to try and accelerate across to this front group where we’ve got five riders that did look a little bit more like par pantra yep Jefferson seeder as well on his wheel as Ki just pushes on again looking very smooth indeed y with poo Sanchez and scaron as well coming across with geska geska and scon marking each other unsurprisingly stower continues with his effort I think it is actually U I think it’s bodan isn’t it definitely bodan yep Alex bodan and then the two k hunters geska and scaroni free go coming across there our first attacker yesterday from Israel Premier Tech looking around and Su Quick Step have missed this one that looks like julan Al not quite tell who that is but suo Qui Quick Step amongst other teams aren’t represented local rer mat Trenton looks like he’s struggling a little bit as well on this climb yeah you will soon get the C camera angle it will tell us exactly where they are yet in a group that been distanced very hard start to today’s stage couple of riders from inos in that group yeah that was didn’t couldn’t quite tell who that was style it looked like L like one of the um one of the Swift cousins sud Quick Step beginning to ride this one down now the Gap is insubstantial there’s Michael fro as you were mentioning on the back zambanini from Bing Victorious little bit of a gap and then there comes the pelaton and it’s Al Philip who’s been doing the work on the front yeah thought it was the popping figure of the double world champion Don H looks across sees Jefferson sepa still 5 km to the top of this climb tops out as we said well been bang on 5K time 1501 before Plumbing down into the valley it’s it’s it is like it sounds obvious but it’s like racing in slow motion it’s not that it’s the first time we’ve seen a proper climb at the start of the stage and it’s a very different field for the dynamic it’s the same thing happen as we see on a normal flat stage but just far less explosive just almost happening in slow motion as bodan takes it up yeah bodan slipped a bit in the general classification he’s 16th actually at 26 minutes and 17 seconds so he will have the freedom of the road he can he will not be he’s not a a worry for anybody up the road other than those who are interested in the hunt for the stage but it’s all come back together again and we await the next moves yeah Lorenzo fortunat is there Roman is having a bit of a better day thean H just out of the saddle and there is the Mal Rosa he’s not got too many teammates with him that’s quite interesting that is interesting but Thomas on his wheel geska arensman everybody’s a bit isolated to be perfectly honest aren’t they Thomas has got T isman with him but that’s about it yeah where are the teammates of T poacha that is H there we go there’s one coming up garton yeah garton on the outside no real worries but it’s just unusual Ned and um I can’t see anybody else gr I think Rafa mic is there or thereabouts just few Wheels behind behind G shner so bouran continues with his Tempo on the front who else is starting to struggle here a little bit there’s a Ben Swift number seven Rubio pegs take Langan just a little bit further back still in the group which is the main thing and you get a lot of this sometimes just passing over the first climb getting through that first test as Alexandra Mar goes clear Marco fro once again Thomas sh from C been good ride for him even to be at the front of this group at the moment y sconi triying to go again and pick the moves canana is that little flash of from as Alexander Demari opens up a little bit of a little bit of a lead on his own fourk to go to the top of the pasella now what I’m not entirely sure about I will admit is that um the passw seller is the Chima copy what I don’t know because I’ve looked through the um instru the the printed information after yesterday’s stage when they decided that it was going to be the Chima copy what I don’t know is how many King of the mountains points are actually available at the Chima copy normally it’s a catto climb there would be 18 but I don’t know whether they’ve uh given Chima copy status whether they’ve given it extra points even though it’s a second cat climb even though it’s a second cat climb I think we’ll wait and see a wait comir y it’s probably the best way to I think we’ll assume at 18 until unless told otherwise thck no there on top of the cell Massif 240 year old Asal a lagoon Thrust out into the air at 2,500 meters as Jimmy Janson gets across to Alexandre deari that’s a good bit of riding by the Belgian and that isard yeah definitely him and hel MBR of aana I noticed as I was riding up to the Finish Line at passel Bron today quite a lot of support on the TAC for henock MBR today someone’s written his name on one of the hairpins large white letters he is a decent climate and he clearly fing okay today got out of the last couple of mountain stages well there we go that has been the Chima copy before 1998 course the year Michel pantani did the double jro tour a little group going off the front we’ve got a group of four Alexandre Demar still on his own at the front of the race now that aerial shop we just had there’s not that many left in the bunch you know so there’s a lots of rers dropping away Demar doing what he does best is turning that big gear as he gets ever near the top of this climb looks like Ki again I think it’s still Sanchez Sanchez those two yeah they’re a little fighting force of two aren’t they yeah Sanchez Super Active yesterday unlucky with the issue we had with his gear getting back on terms after that put him in a real box didn’t it especially the pace that they were going at at the sharp end of yesterday’s race looking okay today I think Marco fro just tried to attack off the front of the bunch to get across the the three Riders the head of affairs with three kilometers to go this a real grind this is bearing in mind they’re going to this is an effort here to try and form the Breakaway of the day there another acceleration yeah time Juan Pedro Lopez goes with him Harrison wood by the looks of it I think on the front from cidus scaron wants those points doesn’t he he’s interested but uh hasn’t managed with that acceleration to get across coford is doing a good job shutting down that move from the Italian that’s a it’s Champion gun is it it is Champion you’re right still Sanchez plows on just under 3K to the top double flick of the elbow really cautious riding isn’t it at the moment everybody just looking behind making sure they don’t invest too much but that’s the unmistakable style of Juan Pedro Lopez he’s in the gap between the Pelon and the three Riders at the front Fortunato going across the Gap and that looks like B that swaying figure of B that distinctive style of his well that would concern a few I think if r b were to get in the move yeah that’s that’s a rider of significance seventh place on GC at the moment 12 minutes and 18 seconds down yeah just under just under two minutes behind geska so the sorts of efforts that I mean s shutting the gaps down there to scaron but that was a big effort lower down the climb and he’s paying for it at the moment here geska I’m even wondering whether that was an effort for the kingdom mountains point to more a play to try and do something on the stage which he alluded to yesterday morning yeah men gri also in the mix now leel Tre very active on this climb we’ve seen kre in a breaks since stage one ofro tratnik suffering there with fiorelli cus surprising to see tra yeah I really think because of how early this climb has come the a lot of riders can actually the fortune can turn around a bit later in the day but it’s certainly a surprise as say climbing normally climbing just on a regular day just very well isn’t he so a slight surprise Stein haser at it again for tonato and that is R towards the front now Julian alip bringing a group of seven or eight including that the Mal no is that the Mal Rosa yeah the Mal Rosa is there not too far away yep wow arensman that’s the GC race strung out behind him he’s got Danny Martinez on his wheel and behind him G Thomas trck sums it all up in one expressive gesture to camera it’s a pretty honest face there from Yan tratnik magoli dropped now after that being dropped after that presence in the breakway do Novak one of the domestics from uee Team Emirates he’s falling away too that’s Albert todders I think yeah from M Star yeah he’s only got I I say a couple of Dum STS around at the moment is Tad poacha could be quite interesting over the top of this climb and then this long not the third the second part of The Descent which is more of a fast descending Valley Road than a true technical descent in terms of attacks again T Bach has got such a big gap I mean even Roma B 12 minutes 18 two minutes behind Tim and arensman but they’ll still be watching that move watching a move with him in it that’s for sure kintana there as well Yan hurt and there is pogacha CR har not too far away but that’s it you know I think Mike is right in the middle bobing is he just behind still in the group Barry panra Al brings it all back down together again stora there as well Z wow so much just broken I mean that’s dramatic isn’t it look at that 35 Riders maybe 40 yeah maybe 40 OD Riders Ned just a few trying to get back on wonderful image a little group off the back as you say of a dozen Riders slogging up over the top of this high altitude climb you can see how far they’ve still got to go just on that Ridge silhouetted against the skyline that’s the top of the Paso cell still one and a half kilm of suffering as Julian Al Philip to Pace with everybody canana Rubio in there as well is out of the shaddle Gant Thomas Tiber there Ben o Conor so all of the main protagonists that You’ think think would be here are here Michael store as well T islandman slightly better better positioned in the bunch than garant Thomas once again it’s a tiny detail in fact they’re longside each other Thomas shampion is climbing well again he is is the dny teeners on the outside he wants to get pretty windy at over the top and it’s tell you what there you go alotti just moving onto the outside you see that just swapping him onto the inside when they’re moving on the left hand side it means the rain is come well that the wind is coming from the other side to alotti making sure that he’s protected Martinez is not ideally placed in that line you know what I think because of this early start and going hard from the gun it’s just a lot of people just take a Time bit of time to warm up so I think we’re seeing riders in different places also the domestiques of U memores um odds so it’s quite yeah quite quite interesting everybody’s just suffering and hasn’t really settled into the racing just yet yeah it’s horrible start yeah really Grim the Australian climber who we heard from at the start of the program Nick Schultz is the last Rider in that line of about 30 at the front of the race M Star swarming all over the the rear wheel of Julian phip with poo Sanchez and Naro canana Ki drops a bead on there he should have another chance look some big rain capes been handed up there at the top there by the inos grenadiers there sh and Jimmy janson’s great climb from him yeah he’s really riding very smoothly just behind alesandro Demari KRA marus still there canana at third wheel there a move move for from VF group bani yes Steiner pelari yep and Steiner Now where’s Christian scaron is he able to getting the scrap here for mountains points can’t see the blue jersey towards the front now Dro back a little bit doesn’t he is so can’t make him out at the no I can’t Sanchez really aggressively trying to pursue this young Rider as we head that acceleration top putting a few riders in difficulty towards the back so there we go information that we think it’s 50 points available well that’s so this is a play for king of the mountains points here from jul pelar tell you what scaron is struggling he’s right the way back good spot yeah right the way back so he won’t be scoring points unless he does something very special coming into the last 600 meters here so the chopy might be going to this Rider but there still 500 meters to go I mean I’m not sure this is a play for the king of the mountains points this is a play for the Chima copy oh yeah put on this is you know it’s local roads his local stage puts him on the podium at the end of the day in front of his home support definitely so and it’s a brilliant attack as well should be able to hold on pelar 300 meters canana Sanchez is still there it’s interesting what can to know this this group is really breaking apart it’s just whether they ride over the top that’s different if it’s if we’ve got the status if the status quow Remains the Same oh canana is making a play for this so Niro canana with Julian Al Philip then kabre shapir steinhauser then the Malia Rosa no sign of Thomas or Martinez on The Wheel of uh T Pacha who just with insolent ease just follows the moves he’s not attacking anything he’s just following the riders in front of him and Kitana is trying to deny pelar the Chim mopi here and he’s coming right up alongside pelar pelar oh that’s very tight that is very tight I think we have to wait for the commissaires to split that one that was too close for me to call I tell you what I don’t think I mean yeah he’s not going to win any friends Canan but he is he’s now taking himself into second place in the Kingdom mountains with that so canana started in fifth place in the km uh and he’s quite a good climber 65 points so now he’s on 115 so clear of scarone so he is if your math is correct I wouldn’t speed it for a second he is 85 points off taking the Jersey 86 points off taking the Jersey from T Pacha but does he get that does he get there yeah that’s you seem to think he does I I couldn’t tell I must admit this this replay might didn’t oh this CL can’t can’t call it it it’s carrying a bit more speed but uh it’s at the point they cross the line so that is going to be a photo well they don’t let’s hope it’s a local judge I was going to say they don’t I don’t think they actually have photo finish equipment there they’re going to have to judge off the same images that we we’re using there that’s that that angle seems to fa favor pelar I wouldn’t here we go let’s have a look it looks like it’s kintana oh no pelari pazari yeah cross here at our commentary position to our Italian colleagues there and there was a lot of expressive hand gesturing there wasn’t there they’ll be willing Oni but canana is pushing on on this descent yeah pelari and canana were fifth and sixth overall in the Kingdom Ms competition only nine points between them um and as we were talking about the top of the show today there were a lot of points out and narak kintana clearly wants to go for the stage clearly that was an all in effort to get the points there but he didn’t get it we get confirmation first that was just we what we need is a a tioso fan at the at the that point at the top of the mountain who’s filmed that on their phone send it in check Twitter someone will have a shot of that ke’s going well there isn’t he descending so who we got there pelar is still part of this move with g kintana k Philip almost inevitably now this is the first part of this descent this is about 8ks of descending let’s have a little look maybe more about 12K is a proper descending and then it continues into a Valley Road where it continues to lose elevation but nowh near as steep but this field already spread all over this mountain so very active descent canana animating things Julian alipe in the mix again and so to is Julio pitar at the Gap that’s opened up here there’s pink jerseys in this front group yeah there’ be some absentees in this this group I mean I think a few Riders will bed into this stage and come good near the end but uh there are signs that a lot of riders are exceptionally fatigued just riding near the front wasn’t he once this all comes back together at the bottom we’ll be interesting to see how hard they ride the next climb because the next climb of course is a first category long this is a brutal day it’s horrible isn’t it’s absolutely Savage just starting from the gun like that I love the riders that this deep into the race remember the old diesel cars there’s a little red light with a little coil on it I think there’s quite a lot of rers is the red light hasn’t come on yet thought it can actually get the engine going it’s literally you could tell that there was no nobody had any real punch did they no so hard lot of riders will be Feathering the choke w’t they definitely and they’ve got to be careful not to flood the engine yep that’s one for the kids isn’t it definitely well there’s the Malia Rosa about 12th back let’s see who else is there I mean this is I mean this is this is an interesting race situation isn’t it groups all over this mountain and no Valley Road for it all to come back together necessarily I me there will be some sort of regrouping on the climb I guess it’s who rides but the way canana is riding he’s going to want to press on I think Al Lee would be happy to ride think gabri gabri jaabir pushing on most definitely totally there’s a lot of riders who want to ride here Al Le will definitely ride Al Le just latching on to the back of this uh very intriguing Cor good to see gabridge a be going so well last time he was on the front as you were saying Ned was in that wonderful stage in Torino every stage has been great to be honest with you in different ways this is going to be a bit of an ordeal only relatively short at 156 K but still 145k to go but thankfully Fair bit of downhill coming up 30 kmers or there about downhill confirmation so there we go n canana picks up 30 points and Julio pelar is confirmed as the winner of the Chima copy to uh Universal Applause in the host nation of Italy I think 50 points to Julia pital let’s have a look yeah yeah yeah I think he’s there just about that’s fair yeah we’ll buy that that hasn’t been a manipulated result at all he beat in fair and square yeah Cano carrying more speed but didn’t get to the point to pass him at that line by by just a centimeter or two yeah that will do for us so hen Mulan at the back of this Mal Roa Group by the looks of it but let’s call it the Pelon that’s what it is seen what that’s either Z or deari but you seen what he’s done it’s quite a good move actually I think Demari is a lot taller than Z isn’t he he’s uh just put his cape on the wrong way around so you don’t need to bother doing the other zip because the main thing to protect is chest so if it’s very difficult to get your your cape on put it on the wrong way around and it just protects your chest at the front so 206 to 106 so it’s definitely closable mathematically achievable one thing Ted Pacha won’t do is fight for the points it’s just that he might end up rolling over a lot of these climbs well uh the next climb the Paso R carries a maximum of 40 points on the top it’s a cat one clim time let’s say that pelet gets that he moves to 146 after that there’s a there are n points on the cat 3 two points on the passo Bronco the sorry 18 points on the passo Bronco the first time around and 50 the next time around so plenty of points still on offer for him to actually take the lead in The Kingdom mountains Jersey yeah definitely and and canana could do it as well yeah I’m I’m sure that talacha wouldn’t mind one less visit to the podium oh he to be honest with without disrespecting the the the significance and the weight of the Malo Zora the the problem the problem is the big reward of 50 comes with the stage win that’s the problem that’s what muddies the water which won’t be a gift as we know and effectively what’s kind of Happening Here is that the the Breakaway the the group of climbers that’s forming at the front of this race happens to be not far off being the GC Riders all isolated yep just behind these four so I mean t pagach is almost fed himself in the break of the day that’s riding at the front just by being good at climbing and it wasn’t even it strange the way rather than Riders actually jumped clear just rers it was just Riders getting dropped yeah it was never really he never exactly didn’t at any point jump across to a movie just sat sat floated near the front and everybody else well the vast majority of the field just Fallen away including some of the the rers um well GC rers without teammates so difficult to Piet exactly what’s happening but I do know right now that Emanuel gab zir is descending like an absolute demon yeah we’ seen looks great on his bik SE from him before hav we he’s a brilliant descender putting Al Philip Under Pressure I think it’s Al Philip in second place now yeah Al Philip’s got round kintana and Ki sorry pelar means it’s a taller Rider gers you but he looks completely dark on his bike Banks it over with real confidence fast descent this is wow taking some great lines this is this first part of The Descent which is which is a proper just look at that looks like a racetrack look at it just snaking in and out beautiful no real uniformity to these bends as well completely random yeah there’s not a that there’s no rhythm there look at that it’s just all over the shop absolutely gorgeous can see where it bottoms out a little bit and then but it doesn’t flatten out they to drop all the way down to the uh the predo bonus Sprint with 112 km to go so we got well still got 30 km to go until the Sprint just a little bit less it’s going to go very quickly with these sorts of speeds so Al Philips at the moment the fastest man on this descent he’s got around those other two the who were in front of him and he’s got right onto the wheels of G here pelar is not too far behind though it’s going to take quite a look look at at the the Riders on every single level of these every single hairpin Bend you’ve got groups yeah spread all over the road at that particular Ang it’s it’s quite wonderful to look at but just shows how that opening climb has just blown this race apart n it’s total chaos yeah it’s utter don’t think I’ve seen it a climb so short and so early blow the race of par like this it’s shattered yeah it’s blown to bits it’s not just us is it you watching at home the DS is sitting in the Convoy at the moment trying to kind of hold down Rising nausea from actually having to descend at this speed in cars they’ll be trying to figure out what on Earth is happening in this bike race at the moment yeah and struggling like we are to identify these Riders it’s almost unknowable I this is the Mal Rosa group and we can only assume Thomas is there you can see the pink jersey man three go there is G Thomas just one Rider behind so two Riders but yeah he’s just on the wheel looks like one Lopez actually that’s scaron in front of him isn’t it yeah looks like scaron is actually yeah no yep I think it is and that poo Sanchez Ki is about fourth or fifth wheel from the front of this group four hand SC jacket there so I can only assume that’s Martinez on The Wheel of Thomas I don’t actually think this you can just see Al phip leading gab jaabir they are not actually that much no further in front of the group with Teddy Pat in oh actually a little bit further down there no there they do you know what I’m just going to give up it’s all over the I think behind Al Philip there are there I think and pitari might have got themselves together and then there’s little groups of two and three and here comes the is that Danny Martinez in that border hands gr Jersey must be surely yes I think it looks like Martinez W Lopez it’s a weird of GC the top end of the GC and good climbers good climbers who were trying to get up the road like scon Lopez that’s Martinez Conor y he’s got a teammate with him looks like one of the Parry pan Valentine Parry Panter for my money and then there’s TI yeah where’s T adman I haven’t seen him yet no unless he’s SL slightly further in front he was out he was with look at the Gap this is what they’ve hit the bottom of the so canana and pelar a little too up time trial there trying to get across the front of the then you’ve got three Stein that’s Stein remembered yeah Steiner there with at least one Rider on his wheels we’ve got two two three then a two or three yeah and then the group with Tedy Pacha and Gant Thomas wow see that look the smile they just looked across and just shook his head stuck his tongue out and thought well let’s just keep riding we we’re in front of all the chaos behind yeah in part due to there’s no tactics here is to see what comes out in the wash I suppose when we hit the slopes of this clim where everybody is relative to one another but the key the key thing for the four here everybody wants to ride so there’s no neutralization here that the these Riders could actually end up moving clear but steinhouse are behind is interested he’s no on the general classification though after that uh very close Sprint these two are now relaying together so maybe a future Juro star in the making and a jro champion of the past out his will here’s this little group here a big attack on the left hand side there’s like fro going it’s the Pelon yeah that is it so tacha is is on his own got yet what for what it’s worth He is isolated so that’s that that’s why he’s dropped to the back of that group to can see everything y if you if you there’s a real danger here that tanip will actually could get attacked on terrain that he can’t control so again he’s just got so much of a Time Gap he could actually afford to wait for a few teammates to start running behind but he’s utterly isolated here not even Rafa m is with him and all he can do is sit on this group this is a Chase group this isn’t the pelaton this is group behind there scon in this group he was distanced on the climb wasn’t he so I think this is big group three I think a marker is that b at the back of that group as well is um tell is here incredibly no it’s a and grow no really wow well if that’s the casee that’s absolutely insane and there he isot Thomas sh you can tell those carves a mof it looks like a yeah yeah so that be interesting for the intermediate Sprint not that again it’s maybe for second second place but if the points are there why not take them as the sun makes an appearance at the front of the race where gabri and Alf Le still pouring down with rain at a commentary point on the top of the Paso broa somewhere up the road as well I think is one in one of these groups just behind so we know that the second group on the road is is kintana and pelar but then there’s other groups in between them and the malosa I they may have been swept up by now but p a slightly mysterious rid he’s disappeared from view yeah cuz he was right in the front I think he was going to be near where steinhauer is he might be actually with him yes in that third group on the RO yeah that does does make a little bit of sense and still not coming back together this is this long extended desc ing Valley Road that we’re on now that takes us through the intermediate Sprint point at 112 K to go 22 K uh 23 K to that point then we start the next climb of the day and the race is going to be in bits look at this yawning empty road behind just about make out the Mala Rosa yeah at the back as you say at the back not working on the front of that group but it looks like the bar Victorious Riders kuso and potentially zambonini are driving it on trying to keep the Pace High I wonder why that is to I mean they must have noticed that someone’s off the back some of the GC Riders there at you just keep you might as just keep riding and riding and just keep him keep him isolated and just start attacking him this is the this is the only terrain this flatter Terrain in between climbs where any Rider despite their ability including tal gadgets but he’s got one teammate with him now okay that say CR got grush hearty with him yeah yes a little group came across didn’t it and there’s arensman toas fos is there for uh the inad is as they’ve got Thomas arensman and F all in that group Danny Martinez is a bit isolated yeah there’s Thomas just up up ahead a little bit so he’s towards the front of thisp and actually there’s Rafa M as well so M’s latched on to so he’s got two of his key climbing lieutenants with him M looking round just behind Valentin par two Riders from sud Quick Step and an attack goes on the left hand side from D Caton AGA mondal blim he fans evant just off in Pursuit and is that to yeah theel of putting Martinez Under Pressure so long as this carries on on this descent this dnamic is not going to relent this is Full Throttle racing it really is Van seven at the back there that must been Yan attacking off the front yeah I think it was hurt yeah yeah he hurts just a little bit further up therez is there as well for inos he’s got a cross so IND grenades have got four riders in this group yeah four there U have got three Martinez is may have one Rider with him yeah definitely seen one of the rider and there’s his little group that’s just clipped off in between in pursuit of our of gabri jaabir and Al is indeed B kusoo steinhauser steinhauser and Michael stora yeah good group very good group this could be quite interesting scorer on his 12th 12th 1 minutes time 1720 it’s B who’s the interesting one there isn’t he B is a threat to te irman and potentially to Antonio Tiber who sit above him on GC that’s why Caruso is not riding y so Caruso sat on the back because of the threat of bate uh and in in the meantime behind there’ll be a few Riders here that won’t want to ride either fck it’s settling down a bit but no sooner have I said that than the next attacks come L PL yeah igniting it with another Rider from sh oh it’s not actually who’s that is that a falter couldn’t see bit by bit though kintana and petardi have very nearly got across to the front of the race yeah I think with these two that far behind Al FIP or gab just wait just wait up mean because they’re two good Riders Four’s better than two especially when you’re essentially riding at the same speed it’s just an utter waste so it’s smart there you go Al FIP is waiting he knows the score he knows uh how to make this work or how to better make this work there we go so a little bit of a hesitation they’re all back together now start riding there’s one of the few rids again isn’t he with with both the most aggressive Rider and the intergo making it an unusual dard combination it’s a go light and a stop light very much like his style yeah there’s no between with Julian never has been and then never will be so where are we now that is the I don’t know that’s the Luke that’s Luke PL isn’t it just off the front of that group and so that was that was a little group that just attacked off the maler Roosa and the the pelaton is actually growing in size substantially now yeah little groups are getting on ones and twos and I think this will continue to spread they can just see a few rers just Midway through the pelaton as Sanchez goes this is interesting Sanchez with Rubio on his wheel again they’ got kintana up the road they’re doing it again I really don’t why they’re they they I don’t know I mean at least time they’re doing it the right way almost aren’t they by trying to get clear not dragging everybody across to the front which happened yesterday it’s yeah but they had AEL and Par pantra with them then right now I mean just follow I mean there’s there’s big climbs to do those sorts of moves they haven’t got those those two haven’t got the sorts of engines on the flat to make a big big difference UAE sweeping to the front no restore a bit of order David ballerini is there from sud quickstep also coming up there from moar that was a mesy just did see that he said who’s up the road and they see canana so there fine yeah well another little group just goes off the front yes Ed plart now driving this will be for KI so Ed plank cart driving on the front to try and bring this back together K has expressed a desire to try and win this stage he should be in this group it’s plart now driving this one along 14 seconds to the chasing group completely unruly yeah just just Relentless yeah there’s Maly he doesn’t need to do too much now ballerini is there as well Fab froma Andre vanr there as well from the de cathon ag2 this is B with kuso and stora watching steinhauser and fego go off the front yeah off in Pursuit this is the second group on the road isn’t it they are off in pursuit of the uh the front of the race with the Riders just see them in front they’re only 13 seconds you can just see them a slightly wobbly angle there just in front so this group could all come together and that will be a decent break very decent break you know a bit of minor minor jeopardy with B there but he hasn’t he’s looking around isn’t he they’re kind of neutralizing each other here cuz Caruso is not riding stora is sat up as well oh look see did it he just pushed him that was quite interesting yeah it was curious though just yeah wonder if we could see that again it just gave him a little bit of a shove almost impatiently there we go what’s saying there just go just go yeah yep yeah just keep it going just keep this going because Caruso is the flying the ointment here really well B is and Caruso is just doing his job he doesn’t want there’s a potential threat on a day like this if this balloons the Gap goes up that tberry they’re in a difficult position so kuso is just being a teammate there and riding riding like he should but it causes frustration and that’s the that’s the idea following moves like that making them a bit sticky meanwhile meanwhile behind being closed in on I mean yeah so they’ve been they’ve been swept up now and uh fro and schin has have got a cross so we’ve now got six Riders at the front of the race this is a goodl looking move yeah this is a goodlooking move it’s a powerful move and importantly there’s nobody up here on the general classification that’s going to cause any of the big GC teams any problems at all all good climbers all in good form all of whom have had very good results over the last few days steinhauer third kintana second Pali second Al Philip stage win as ballerini counters with Ki look at that that almost looks like a a structured race that we’ve got or very nearly now as it set down a little bit in the uh the main Pelon well this Counterattack goes yeah while the gaps only about 20 30 seconds I mean I Caruso could ride here because K is no threat and he is he’s starting to ride with ballerini there just making an assessment okay this is okay to ride the Riders I’m with aren’t going to pose any threat to my man in the top 10 so I’m just going to get up the road you can see I’m almost like thinking that one through scaron now trying well this is that janson’s across the Gap yeah I think it is yeah with scaron Ando attacking from the front of that Pelon to try and get on the Jimmy janson’s it’s quite interesting he’s in turn he’s I know he just tried to get across and give his teammates some assistance he’s not trying to drag everybody back I think if on roads like this Ki could have done with some assistance to try and get to the front of the race but they’re only 11 seconds behind and the pelaton as you can see in turn only 27 seconds behind on these very fast moving roads still hasn’t quite coalesced and settled yet but we have the makings of a very solid Breakaway or the race coming back together and restarting again 28 seconds from the Mal Roa group let’s call it the pelaton it looks a bit more like a pelaton now uh to the front of the race where these thers should all be totally in in harmony they should all commit to this move but it looks like they’ve just eased up a little bit as this Counterattack with David ballerini and I forget who else Ki KI and one other are nearly across to them that would make it nine at the front of the race I mean this is the sort break that should go clear anyo riding by the looks of it yeah this is kind of break that should go clear yeah ballerini not wanting to work with Ki he making it hard for him kuso shaking his head Ki desperate to get in the move here but also there’ll be several teams that have missed this that given the fact they’re not too far away we want to try and get on so kuso straight up the top of Ki merciless riding this is as Al filip’s is he disted who knows who knows it did look like he was just off the back there and having to Sprint to get back on as the attacks continue to stream off the front from the front of this Bunch AA valta following a move there from CH lame Razer of DSM four Riders uh just in front of that duo yeah Tedy Pacha just keeping a wary eye that’s at this point in the race with the the am action that’s going on the best place to ride is just s 20 back just seeing so you can spot anything that’s dangerous especially when you’ve got limited teammates with you g Thomas also dropping behind to the back so you can see exactly what’s going on as another big group of 10 or so Riders gets on was about to get on frenetic Pace up front still well still largely it looks flat but it isn’t really it’s a a descent a shallow descent all the way now down to the bonus Sprint at pad so that’s at 11 12.3 km to go so 14 km from here um but instantly as soon as they go through the bonus Sprint they’re onto the p r so this will go by very fast now just over 10 kilometers until the Sprint and then the start of the climb yeah there’s one or two tiny little pickups like the one we just saw where Al FIP looked like he was off the back I don’t think he was I think he was just um actively moving we had a different camera angle yeah but it is fast all the way to that into immediate Sprint and looks like we have about 45 riders or so in this main pelaton Ki and Caruso wonder if Ki and Caruso just actually got on yet um no Caruso still off the bat Ki still on his own did you see the way that um both Caruso and ballerini just basically one toed Ki left him flailing yeah and he’s he’s still off the bat that’s horrible but that that’s racing yeah it’s really smart racing because they they fear him so rather than dragging him into a move um jump him and if he gets on he gets on if he gets on he’s spend he burnt a lot of energy so there he is he should get on but it’s going to take a lot of effort and meanwhile ballerini who used that punch that he’s got to accelerate across is now comfortably in in the in the slipstream with these Riders here it so two is damana Kuro so that makes it now how many 1 two 3 four five six seven eight I think yeah eight with Ki just off the back ballerini and cruzo just adding them to my list of riders at the front of the race 26 seconds still bridgeable it is still bridgeable and is that uee riding on the front I think it is so they will want this to get out go out now looks bit Yeah restoring a bit of order so today Pacha I think well he’s he’s going back to the team car he seems to think now that this has gone and is starting to settle down yeah bit of refueling going on and maybe some capes as well because the weather’s actually coming in here and T Bacha is wearing the least amount of clothing of anybody but he doesn’t seem to mind does he no finishing short sleeves yesterday oper so well in the co it does and besides I mean there are 10 kmers or so of descending and it’s starting to rain as you can see but it won’t be long before they’re climbing again yeah especially the speed they’re going at they’ll hit that climb quite uh quite quickly 60k hour 55kph plus following the path of this fast flowing rther so U have this under control now for the first time in a while something resembles a normal bike race with a group of eight Riders at 31 seconds and Nia Ki might well be there we go see how he handles this got to wait till the road Rises before he puts this on he’s got it in his teeth at the moment yep so yeah a 15th Mal Pacha he started this race well nowhere on these standings he never raced a jro before he’s now the 550 35th alltime maler Rosa wearer in the entire history of the jro Italian he’s done that in two and a half weeks yeah it’s incredible isn’t it there he is having to breathe partly through his mouth and partly through his nose there as he’s got his rain cake in between his teeth but just making sure as you say won’t be wearing it for very long because this next climb is a very long one it goes up in two phases doesn’t it all the way back over to 1900 or 1300 M 1972 yeah very high meanwhile 35 seconds is Ki there no no he didn’t make it is still stranded somewhere in in the gap or he’s set up and will has already been swept oh that’s a big shame yeah huge disappointment for the local Rider who targeted today but the way just the way he was dealt with by those two far more experienced Riders ballerini yeah it wasn’t s it was it was not sentimental that’s thunder yeah big Roll of Thunder and a flash of lightning here at the Finish Line just to add to the drama into which they’re racing today quite apocalyptic rain falling here as well well it’s a grim setting up on top of the Paso broon that don’t forget they go up and over twice today from different approaches the easterly and then the southernly approach y it’s quite a main road the one they come up first and then the back roow that we’ve we finish in is is very very hard but yeah that’s just to see that play out the way they didn’t ride with Ki of just just brutal just leaving and floundering only 50 m off the back but when you’ve got eight Riders of that class relaying through one man has essentially got to ride into the wind maintaining that same amount of power um it’s just not it’s just not possible that F at the back appears to be I think it is Slender shoulders of the Italian another good ride from him and there’s Ki well this could change the dynamic of the race here with Ki not there and alone having several Riders might actually start chasing but the Gap look at that he’s just gone yeah he’s he’s still riding though but he’s completely gone there’s no way he’s getting across that not now unless they do hit the climb and go a little bit steady but the sort of RS we’ve got in this group it’s it’s good climers I mean you got ballerini who’s more of a ruler I think ballerini is the only odd one in this break really can get over climbs well but he is not a climber you know what that’s the the only well that’s not the only thing I haven’t quite understood today Matt I haven’t quite understood quite a lot of today it’s been so chaotic at times but ballerini’s presence in this Breakaway slightly mystifies me when he could have you know alternatively he could have worked with Christian scaron as a two- up Force to try and to try and place him in this Breakaway because this is a break for scaron not for ballerini yeah but in the chaos of what was happening on the road that’s very easy for us in the armchair to say but exactly they wouldn’t have known where each other were on the road exactly I I think you could see every body I mean there was no color blocking whatsoever coming towards the top of that climb it was absolutely all over the place difficult to see from this angle who is exactly riding it’s definitely something in a cape yeah there’s a white jersey on second in second wheel that probably belongs to what will belong to one of the UAE team emirat Riders I think Doan Novak was the last Rider who was on the front yeah but scro was actually the top part of the first climb scaron was dropping back and was actually in the second group um so you’ve just got to go and get representation out of all those Riders I mean from a racing from winning the stage situation ballerini isn’t going to win the stage from that group just I know you just it’s just not that that group is just way too classy every single one of those Riders uh is superior on climes um but they do have representation I don’t think it were too long before Ki is actually caught and the best thing for him to do now is be just to ease if he’s got any if he’s minded to to win today’s stage he needs to just just knock it on the head here cuz he’s going to be caught just prolong otherwise he just prolonging his misery and wasting energy it’s the big Norwegian vard Stocker Lan on the front oh there a little move yeah I me they’re holding it quite tight aren’t they Yep they’re letting it go out but only only slowly valta is just off the front yeah that’s an interesting move as well but just never know I mean some of the move do succeed if he gets together with Ki they hit the bottom of the climb they could they could close the gap so Volta definitely trying something and would rather go at this point than on the climb quite clearly he’s made that calculation and he’s decided to go but you’re quite right they are not hanging around this isn’t they’ve not settled into an easy Tempo they’re pressing on here which is uh a little ominous [Laughter] say the least isn’t it yeah but you know what on this road it’s safer for them to press on and to we’ve had one attack what we haven’t had is the chaos that we saw before if they ease off with only eight Riders up in front you know teams that aren’t represented are going to try and start getting going again and then it gets a little bit confusing but they are back in control of this race so this isn’t about necessarily riding for the stage just like right this this this is okay it’s kind of sketchy we just need to make sure that that we can control things here um and we saw that brief moment just briefly when Tedy pagach was isolated and this terrain is is is the most dangerous for him because it’s easy to get moves he can’t shut everything down he can on a climb because his borderline super human but not on these sorts of valley roads so that’s what they’re riding hard here aalta just needs to give Ki a break here doesn’t he yeah just EAS up a little bit K’s very nearly got he has got back on there and then they can work together because interest in both their interests absolutely on their own he’s got maybe 10 seconds on the road now he’s got 54 to get across to the front it’s a very very tall order and he needs Ki now meanwhile the dura E A is starting y also in Grim weather pretty awful weather well more of that later and more of this now ballerini unsurprisingly is uh sitting on here and to be honest if I was any of the other riders in this group I’d say well that’s fair enough because we’re probably going to drop on the climb yeah at some point maybe not this next climb but later on so ballerini knows the score he doesn’t need to ride with all these climbers um just gets carried along and the longer he sits on the more chance he has of going deeper into the race and may be Pro providing some sort of assistance for a Counterattack with scone or any of the other riders in it Fortunato yeah because he was Fortunato was riding okay on the first climb it’s to the four so they they have they have numbers but Bina knows he not riding for the win today so why why ride so it’s simple as that so he’s done the right thing and he’s sitting on at the moment he might do one turn every now and again so it doesn’t wind people up but I think he’ll just sit right at the back kintana a third consecutive day very actively involved in the race Fardo canana as you say ballerini just sitting on not contributing to the PACE setting at all and it gets a little glance there from Julian alip who’s noted what his former teammate is doing but they’re still holding it at 54 seconds which is oh no ah okay the chase group is at 54 the pelaton has eased up a little bit and there’s uh losing a few more seconds here and there to the front of the race yeah the the closer they get to this next climb more they can actually just start to take the foot off the gas a little bit let’s feather it back he just feather it back just really start to feather it Ki wasn’t Feathering it earlier on he was absolutely laying down the hammer it’s given another chance actually to KI aalta getting across this Gap because if they do hit this climb both are good climbers and the most one of the most important things psychologically is to be a to see the riders in front and on the climb they will at 54 seconds still got a few K to go to patso that’s the intermediate Sprint and then they start climbing pretty much straight away they hit patso and they go uphill for um well the next 21k blam me clim is actually 19.8 k at 4.8% but there is a flat flatter section Midway through so it’s mostly six or 7% but it’s a long one takes us to 91.4k to go [Music] MBR just being pickpocketed there by his teammates I think that was a consensual pickpocketing situation wasn’t it yeah Leno for and still back in the Pelon this reduced Pelon with their teammate Christian scaron in the blue jersey but probably not by the end of the day the way things are playing out yeah with with pazari and can up there both are going to be leap proing over him if it stays this way and did I don’t think it was quite clear just didn’t have the legs to follow them at the top part of that climb I think he probably did his effort a little bit early put himself into the red and then couldn’t recover almost s panicked wind a little bit too early was a little bit impatient it’s easy upon reflection to look at it but that’s uh that’s the way I read it unfortunately got caught on the heart couldn’t quite match the pace at the top 500 met to go to the bonus Sprinter Julian alen Philip is on the front and I wonder whether he might just stay on the front for 500 meters and pick up the points if he does he moves into third place in the in the points classification steinhouse is just uh slightly misjudged that and needs to get back on yeah I wonder if he’s dropping back to try and call a team car for but just lost yeah just backed off too much and was briefly out of the slip dream and is’s now back on still on the front and I think he’ll remain on the front and will win in Comes This Sprint no it’s going to be challenged ballerini oh sits on the back and takes it sneaky yeah what was that all about and then says come through oh bit cheeky mate wow mercenary that was absolutely mercenary politely ports out some some holes cuz bik racing it’s competition you use your head you use your tactics you know you’re going to get you’re going to get pretty badly beaten up on these next few climbs as baller he’s going to have to go far deeper than everybody with him so he helped himself to some Sprints to slightly compensate perhaps for the the pain is going to have to go through in the meantime these two are making no Headway on the front of the race which is entirely understandable you see how well that group are working together yeah and there’s eight of them these Riders well K’s already gone very deep even to be there and I don’t think uh well be interested to see how long how much longer they persist with this because it’s going nowhere yeah they’re matching the pace but it’s costing them a lot more yeah and they’re marginally taking a little bit of time out the P but not much at all as you say though it could be that the the group when they hit the climb which they do now that they uh the group of the front might just knock it right off I think they will knock off a little bit they will knock it off a little bit and I think they’ll know that nobody in this group is a threat to the general classification so save just riding Tempo behind U Emirates don’t need to ride if let’s see if they do if they ride or not there’s the mass ranks of the unit grenadiers you got one two three four five Riders there now I wonder whether anyos have read into what we saw what we noted um that Danny Martinez was a little bit ill At Ease on that first climb today relatively just a little bit and I wonder whether they might try and put him into a bit of difficulty again today and then if that happens because they’ve got a lot of there inos if that were to happen then that would have a big effect on the way the whole race was will play out in the end oh definitely and it could it could affect the Gap to the break not properly going out much uh which could mean that we’ve got if we get to the bottom of this climb uh to the Finish pass broon for the second and final time and there’s only a couple of minutes Gap that could come down in no time it’s such a hard climb so very interesting but but but also we see we see Riders quite often struggling at the start of the stage and getting better at the end but we’ll see but it was definitely definitely looked to be it was a bit further back than we thought but we shall see so ballerini now is working with G shabier fro kuso n canana Julia pelar who his Ascent to the the first order of riders in this Jal has been so rapid it’s not even a surprise to see him there he no winner of the a stagia that t laer last year he’s out of contract this year yeah well he won’t be but it’s it’s it’s contract year should we say yeah he might might genuinely get some interest in World Tour teams yeah today’s a huge day for him in that regard isn’t it yeah because if you can back up what we saw from him yesterday and the day before today in this company then then he’s the real deal I tell you what you’d I mean canana and ala FIP everybody here Freo lesso Caruso has been riding quite well actually just got better and better off that very unfortunate fall um you they’re quite evenly matched I think from what we’ve seen nobody has been spectacular they both they’ve all been pretty solid apart from that that Al FIP raid the other day was absolutely un well incredible but um everybody else here has been very solid yeah so but but long way to go yet and a gap of only 1 minute 49 seconds yes if this group went to the line it’ be very difficult to pick a winner yeah don’t know really haven’t seen enough of Marco Freo so far at the jro to know how well he’s going exactly yeah each one of these could be dangerous I mean for me canana looks on a long long stage the a diesel type stage which this is we’ve got this pass we’ve got another we’ve got another four climes uh today although it’s only a relatively short stage by Pro standards it’s just the amount of elevation three go just accelerated a bit on the right hand side of the road and open up a a little bit of a gap gap’s coming down now to the group behind they will see them on this particular stretch and this is where this break the gap’s going up to the pelaton so they won’t really be too worried about two more riders coming into this group it’s about measuring their own effort because how much climbing steel to comes they can’t go full gas up this one they have to knock it back a little bit and ride at a pace that’s sustainable and that will open the door potentially for KI and valta to get on it’ll it’ll cost them a bit but I do think that League group will just knock it back a little bit as they are as they start to understand that they’re actually making gains on the peleton see you’re all about thinking about the climb still to come can’t go all in at this stage of the race the traven glacia feeding these Waters this these these mountains these woods these wooded hillsides and Mountain sides in this particular area absolutely riddled with waterfalls up the Paso Bron climb actually the narrow climb you pass some spectacular waterfalls that cascading down the side of the uh the side of the hill and it’s UAE te Emirates still setting the pace in the pelaton and holding it quite tight 143 not much has changed so they’re matching the tempo being ridden at the front of the race by the eight Riders of whom julan Philip is won once again what a resurging j to tell you this man’s head no one saw this coming I don’t think he’s been seemingly ever present just extraordinary yeah yeah a real throwback to Al Al Filipa four years ago cter Coke in the back pocket for damel Caruso but you’re right Al leers looked good I think it’s fair to say he must have enjoyed this jro and there he is having a chat with his former teammate ballerini they’ll know each other really well still continuing to talk this feels like a better Breakaway for Al phip today than yesterday to move he’s packed with climbing Talent he’s got support he’s not having to do it you know with respect to the Riders he was with small breaks as well very small breaks and yet he would back himself in this company to have a really good stab at winning if this break goes to the line but I mean that’s it’s a big if still isn’t coming the gaps come down from 147 now to 139 but I think that’s because of this group isn’t it because these these have eased up quite substantially the chase group Ki and um valta thank you AA valta they’re very nearly there now at 21 seconds so I think I don’t think the I don’t think the peleton are riding any harder do you Matt I think it’s just they’ve eased up a little bit at the front yeah I think they knocked it off and in turn the peleton could knock it off because I don’t think uee would really want to open up the race again again there’s nobody that poses any threat if we do see a change in Tempo from the pelaton or the remainder of the Pelon behind which is about 50 Riders Strong by the looks of things it would come from another team but uh good bit of riding opportunistic attack there strong attack in fact byta looked a bit strange at the time but he’s bridged across to KI and Ki now gets another chance at the stage that he uh really wants to go for he already explained to us in the interview that he lives locally he’s got a lot of friends out on the road today but it’s going to have to make sure they eats and drinks and rests a little bit doesn’t contribute to this group for a little while just to recuperate the energy that was a big big well it’s was a good 15 20 minutes on his own in the wind before valta came and essentially rescued the situation for him if valter hadn’t have attacked this man would have been back in the bunch so Doan Novak is leading behind Danny Martinez has only got one teammate in this pelaton and I think it’s alotti that’s it that’s not great is it no so there’s an opportunity here for gar Thomas to try and reclaim second place in the J Italia and put Martinez Under Pressure yeah he’s got arensman fos there with him and Danny narez is a little bit further back isn’t he not at the front at the moment but the hold arensman and Gard Thomas situation is an interesting one because arensman is clearly going a little bit better unless that was just a bad day where the cold really played its part and the cold can have a funny effect on people that is for sure good to see Harrison wood in this group as well just towards the back number 58 C have got four riders in this which is double the amount of Bor handc good showing from inos grenades Jonathan n is the last in their line then comes Felix gner the man who needs no introduction then Rafa M and they have a rider working on the front and one more I think just tucked in on the wheel of Raa m yeah definitely have I think that’s V good State Langan isn’t it Don Novak St Lang no backs on the front isn’t he doing his doing his bits yeah and it’s going to be a long bit as well Steiner at the front like change for the German back up and running pretty quickly and they’ve knocked it off at the front that was interesting those time comparisons those speed comparisons that we saw on your screen they’re going at the moment four or 5 km an hour slower than the Pelon yeah this could be an very interesting day elegant was really quite elegant wasn’t it props his bike up Cy styly that was btic the big German flowed really nicely is it maybe maybe they could make a gift out of that artistic interpretation I’ll give it an 8.9 yeah I’d Echo that so just picking his way back through equally elegantly on this gradual climb it’s a long way though there’s the stat 16.8 K to go and no wonder of they’re just knocking it back a little bit they’ll be able to see the pelaton not too far away Demian Caruso wants to uh what he compressed his empty can of cocaa and they’re going to give it to a fan well that’s a weird souvenir maybe get it signed at some point uh but yeah didn’t want to throw that one off no for all the right reasons yeah there we go that’s the uh that underlines underscores the fact that nobody here poses a threat to anybody in the top 10 or probably even in the top 15 or 20 here valerina the last place 2 hours 33 minutes punches into that corner though fro gives him a glance he like what are you doing mate let’s just keep this steady well they can see as the mountain unwinds they keep glancing over they can see that’s what they’re looking at see that that time Gap is Slender 1 minute and 27 seconds it’s almost as if now the Pelon are just riding at their that this is what we’re going to ride at uh we’re not chasing you um but if you want to win this stage you can have to go a little bit harder it’s exactly right M that’s exactly what it feels like at the moment yeah and and he isn’t there’s no there’s no Pursuit here it’s just running at a decent Tempo and no back can can run this sort of pace Rel with relative ease but everybody else wants to ride with relative ease to conserve something for the last bit so it’s this real balance okay we’ve got to invest just enough so we’ve got a chance to stay away but 1 minute 29 seconds they’re going to need to a little bit more than that and that’s why ballerini although there’s very little chance of him surviving to the finish with a gap so slender amongst that sort of opposition but you know wants to keep the break away so just punched into that corner as a little reminder Lads that we can’t back off too much here we need to keep a little bit of impetus and actually use these climbs to build a little bit of a lead each time because they’re not going to get much back on The Descent although you could argue that maybe U Emirates will just go a little bit steadier on this long downhill because next up we do have a very very long descent I mean we’ve got long climbs in this stage but there’s some long descents as well yeah it’s the best part of 33 best part of 30ks so 107.3 km remain in this stage we’ve got four categorized climbs still to come including the one that they’re on at the moment the Paso R what a beast it is 19.8 km in total length varying between 5% and 10% in its gradient you just see at the bottom of the screen there there’s another big group uh of equal size maybe even bigger that’s actually slowly getting into on terms at the pelaton I think paga just gave the order on the radio we saw a shot of paga talking to his teammates and I think he just said just ease up a little bit here and you can see the time gaps growing yeah ticking up all the while I think he’d be more than happy to have a breakaway take the date and just just Marshall any attacks from the general classification just follow ballerini once again just as you were describing Matt just putting a little bit of extra impetus in this into this Breakaway group L pH I wonder if that’s made him smile Alan Philip that’s great the man with three first names isn’t it Alan Philip oh oh what’s happening here there’s a little bit of a Counterattack looks like inos is that inos or chuda this was always the danger wasn’t it yeah so there’s a cidus rider there Pedro Lopez is going again it’s store isn’t it the two Americans Australians I should say Kevin verak is following the wheels gka in fourth again nobody of any threat for the GCS they’ve just let this one go clear Dan H is uh just following Kevin verak there yeah he’s one just to keep a wary on but he is a long way down now but still he is a GC player top 10 isn’t he yeah 14 minutes down but he is top 10 but if you’re Rubio you want to watch him is only a minute down and if you’re Zana you want to watch him he only one and a half minutes down so this this knock on effect to Riders now who really want to protect as we get nearer and nearer Rome Riders are going to want to lock down that top 10 position yeah there’s a reaction there from aana on two fronts as well Christian scaron is reacting to seska’s Presence at the front of the race and Lorenzo forato has just got to keep a little bit of an eye on Yan H as well oh totally Story Goes Again fair play why not this was always the danger of holding this Gap this close wasn’t it yeah the race is essentially open with the amount of climbing we’ve still got to come there’s a lot of racing still to be done today and and they’ll know that the the group in front aren’t riding flat out they know that the Gap is only 1 minute and 25 seconds and a big all-in attack with a couple of riders could Bridge still got 15 km of the climb 124 is no time on a climb of this length and unsurprisingly that’s taking a good 10 or 15 seconds off the lead of our break yeah and if there was a group coming back to the pelaton as you were describing Matt that’s going to make that a little less likely at this point in the race exactly yeah they were just one just one sweeping hairpin down well stora stalls again and don’t if he’s going to be able to attack for a third time and I wonder whether that might be it or whether any of the other Riders would fancy their chances cuz that Gap is now 118 yeah POA wants to get involved and uee try and assert a little bit more control over the front of the race again restore order to what was a little bit unruly for a while here Tobias fos just looking like he was going to ride past do novc but he’s just riding alongside him or just half a wheel back a Long Way to the Top of this pass we might get a glimpse if we pan right out of this uh second group second big group well there’s the first group that is a good shot isn’t it on this long straight stretch of road they are clearly visible that little filler of vehicles behind them Jimmy yans pulls over to the right hand side of the road oh look at that it’s a that’s an interesting machine yeah it was wasn’t it like a hand wound Bell wasn’t it yeah I’m curious I’ve not seen one of those before no look quite intricate leader the team of the race leader you need to impose yourself you it’s about asserting control um and if the break because of how cons relatively conservatively the break are taking this this stage because it’s so brutal you have to measure your effort uh you got really got to think about how to win this bike race and you can’t go all in too early but still if the pace that the pelaton decide to ride it is a bit harder if you want to win you you’ve got to invest even more and that’s the risk pelet out doing a turn on the front ballerini still involved in this Breakaway 14 km of the passo r still to go and he’s he’s gone ballerini from being a passenger on the Flat Road so actually working very hard on the climb I think he’s been guilted into it after sitting on and taking that Sprint that was snaky wasn’t it that was very I think well I better just maybe do half of this climb and then maybe I can just disappear to the back again but no he is a a working member of the group now and a good good riding actually by AA valter there to get across with Nicola koni still holding it just under a minute still just one Rider on the front so we can pick out any other Riders from this group yeah is indeed alotti definitely just one Bora there for a second place Rider overall as you were saying there as he swings over picks up bottles from the side of the road to supply his team leader with to keep himself fueled up 58 seconds not much is it it really isn’t much no I’m wondering if on this little flatter section here you can just see scaron is lurking with intent again worked his way up onto the coattails of the GC Riders there and poo Sanchez as well looks like he might try another little dig he’s rather interesting M Star tactics I know Rubio is in the mix as well in the fold there well they’ve got not even arguably from on the form we’ve seen so far they’ve got the best man for the job on a stage like this in their move so they really MTI just need to follow yeah any little counter that goes You Follow You Don’t Ride um in in my opinion now the group in front on this little Plateau we’re reaching the roughly not even quite the halfway point but heading up to this little Plateau section it was ever slightly downhill so they keep on riding on this part here they might actually start to extend the lead but right now they haven’t all strung out single f for the first 20 places in the peleton it drops down here doesn’t it a little bit tell you you look really really comfortable in third place in that line just caught a glimpse of him that was team islandman just reading his body language is early on in the stage and the the real scraps haven’t come they’ll come on the final climb but he does look good y very smooth there he goes almost just wearing a mask isn’t he yeah looks looks around just to maybe check the composition of this group Gant Thomas has dropped a little bit further back now look how far back Danny Martinez is again yeah there he is he’s just behind Thomas though isn’t he or two behind Thomas Thomas has dropped back into that little clutch so maybe he’s just keeping his eye on the Welshman yeah and I think a little bit further back you’re a bit more out the wind as well a ballerini opts to put on a Gile had over a rain Cape yesterday he that’s most unorthodox wasn’t it not moving much further clear but this is a you know very very solid looking move on any other jro You’ think this would go to the finish on a stage like this but yeah just the way things are happening behind they’d have seven minutes it would it just balloon out a strange J this is in all sorts of ways one the wonderful to watch this man remind us of past glories and right present ones and then to see Riders like the one on this wheel gor steinhauser emerge um from promise to actual fulfillment of talent that’s been great to see no it certainly has as well as the young the youngest man in this Breakaway as well elizardi wonderful stage yesterday is is he actually the youngest man in the race uh I think he’s 20 so to double check that I think he might be beautiful look at that wow soak that up absolutely gorgeous yeah it’s what is definitely of the youngest in the race as we as we check our stats I think he has is yeah he is the youngest man in the race by uh two two 20y olds I didn’t realize madis Michels was still just 20 years of age but he’s the other only other 20y old starting to go out now this Gap ever so slightly not much though 107 Novak on the front drop now intrigued by the M Star pair there at the front of the race look they got itchy feet don’t they they don’t they just keep glancing around to see what’s happening up the road and poo Sanchez in particular looks Twitchy as to fos who was riding in second place just tued in on behind the wheels of Doan Novak yeah they’re they’re all getting ready very very early for The Descent that’s to come still just under 11 km to the top of the Passover Ry but remember we we go to the top just under 2,000 M and then we drop all the way back down to around 640 M so we lose the best part of 1300 m in about 25 km so it’s a long long descent there’s that group just about to get on and that just gives you an indication of the pace actually right at the front of the race as well as in the pelaton the fact that a group of rows that are dropped and now managing to get back in contact uh indicates that uh everybody’s treating this this stage with the the kind of pacing strategy that suggests that people are very fright very fearful of what’s still to come the rest of this climb and then three more climbs after that and the double Ascent from different directions of the Passover proon yeah it’s not insubstantial so a similarly sized group as you were saying including some more support in the shape of Max shakman and others for Danny Martinez Ola as well so he’s there for UEI imagine there be a couple of uee riders in the miss one would imagine so that for the first time in a long time looks like a pelaton it really does as we have news of another Rider abandoning it’s David DEA he’s had a tough time of it of late as the uh Dutchman Mar BNB steps off sadly for him on stage 17 of the jro yeah after uh YY bman the other day after that big crash on the queen stage yeah this this little flat section here they’re going through parallel to the lake so yeah the Pelon swelled it’s almost back as a almost a full size I would imagine there’s a little group head to with some of the sprinters in there can’t spot any of the big sprinters can’t see Jonathan Milan in this group Forest of Arms shooting in the air the support now because they would have gone quite hard I think to get back on Y and now they need to replenish their res reserves before the climbing starts again 9.2k to go for the uh Riders at the front of the race it’s quite a large long section it’s about seven section seven K of relatively flat rows before it picks up again to the top and this is where this group are beginning to build their lead that’s where we are just see that plateau in the middle before the road gets a little bit steeper once more through this Galleria little bit of ice melt water runoff so just a reminder of the 10 Riders at the front of the race we’ve got Marco FAL Gil steinhauer we’ve got the youngest man in the race Julio pitard the second place Rider over the line yesterday n katana who finished second to Pacha on the day before the rest day uel gab in his first Breakaway since the opening stage and T in we’ve got a stage winner at the Jalia in this edition of the race in the [Music] shap julan AL former is a stage with R riding from appers Kik who joined this Breakaway late in the company of the Hungarian national champion atila valta and they at the moment are just over halfway up this category one Paso R climb holding on to a 1 minute 24 second advantage over the UAE team Emirates Leed pelaton well interestingly just one or two Riders have uh made their way up to the wheels of those two U te Emer Riders at the front DSM who haven’t got any representation at the front of the race have three just tucked in on the wheels of the man in the red jersey in the colors of K BNB hotels then come a a trio of riders including Beno Conor if not more actually possibly four Riders from the castle on ag2 M Ola comes to the front now from UE te it’s another man added to their little mini train of riders just trying to keep control over this Pelon that has been very very active throughout the opening third of today’s 159 K pictures pictures [Music] [Music] [Music] pictures pictures pictures FM pictures FM pictures [Music] point in the king of the Mansions competition it’s another 40 points pelar sits on 106 points I think nirra canana and Julia pelari if this group comes to the line together we’ll have to Sprint it out again and see who gets the maximum points Julian Al’s name being shouted by the side of the road from these isolated Spectators high up now on this long climb that tops out at just under 2,000 M of altitude as is traditional in the jido Italia deep into the third week now we go into the high mountains once more again today before dropping out and a spring finish down in the PO Valley tomorrow and then uh the next two days thereafter seeus return to the mountains and then a long transfer to Rome and then it’s done the jro is over on Sunday so this is the biggest Gap that the Breakaway has enjoyed all day one minute and 40 seconds biggest margin of any Breakaway group all day long so now perhaps they’ll have a bit of renewed confidence that they can realistically assume think or begin to work with the fact that uh it looks like the attacks have subdued at least for now and that this break will be allowed a little bit of length a little bit of slack they can start to think about the Finish Line eventually but it’s a long way off still as Velasco makes his way up on the left hand side of the peleton the man from oana [Music] the team cars are now being pulled into the Gap so G Stein House’s team cart very distinctive Livery of EF education easy post looking for room on the right hand side of the bunch using the horn try and make their way up to support their Rider at the front of the race where is Tedy Pacha he’s just off the back in the Convoy of cars and calmly making his way back into the peleton which is eased up again possibly because T Pacha is off the back they’ve just knocked it off a little bit on the front where his teammates are setting the pace on dictating terms and uh when he gets back in they might just they might just ride a little bit harder or they might not they might now be content for the Breakaway group to start to establish a very healthy and race winning lead so Pacha back in while he was off the back there they’ve uh added another 20 possibly 30 seconds to their advantage at the front of the race and uh very nearly two minutes now that’s by far the biggest ADV Vantage that they’ve had all day 5.6k to go to the top and naira canana on the top all these riders in this Ken Rider group are isolated in the sense that they don’t have teammates with them so there’s no uh no multiple representation in this Breakaway group and I think there’s only two riders in this Breakaway group who are interested in the substantial Hall of King of the mountains points on today’s stage with the addition of the Chima Cy and the addition of the 50 points on offer uh for the Cat 2 Klein suddenly that changes everything and uh Julio uh pelari my word sitting at 106 points to T pacha’s 200 if he is able to take these 40 points at the top of the Paso ret all of a sudden he’s only 54 points off the king of the mountains Jersey and the good thing about the amount of roders in this Breakaway um I think he’ll be I think canana will will fight with him for those points we’ve got an interesting battle it’s interesting that those two Riders have come quite late into the Duro as as real contenders but the fact that tatcha the fact that the group is big and the other Riders who even are who aren’t interested would take all the other points and just Shores that up as well and in just the way they’re riding here they definitely knocked it off a little bit 2 minutes and 10 seconds still Doan Novak with that style of his just out the sadd light isn’t he just turning that big gear Ola moving up as well Philipa Gana back in the mix well it’s pretty much the entire Pilon Now isn’t it bar a few Riders who were lost earlier on and he’s a steeper slops now I deployed a very very similar riding style to Doan Novak on my Ascent of the pass Bron on your folding bicycle well you needed to overwhelmingly overgeared weren you I was going at a slightly different Tempo but uh but I was out of the saddle whole way up was oh that’s interesting Chris Hamilton moves to the front now for DSM that’s interesting R’s been off the front and attacking already today and they moveing assert control now DSM that’s a script I hadn’t thought about but yeah this might have an effect on the time Gap now because it was blo out to over two minutes and a change of the script again well they’ve got to be really careful here because I they just let him go just let them go is he going to look around is now he’s going to is going to wheel him back in again because this isn’t asking question isn’t he he’ll probably say to Tad should we let them go or do you want to ride at this pace well this is basically play setting for B that’s lame Riser and B and and and Hamilton on the front and B’s moving back moving up the line on the left hand side a little bit further back down the road they want to get something more out of this race it’s not just about the GC for B I think Roman bardy would rather I think try and get a stage win and then risk losing is is Seventh Place overall as result is clearly what’s happening but the what what could end up playing out although I know that DSM in the past have they pretty shrew tactically and quite often deploy unusual tactics to great success or relative success success their teams suddenly does something that you just do not expect that’s what they’re very good at so they think quite differently uh across the board just in in in the way that the team is run as well they’re very they have a completely different ideology to many teams uh it suits some it doesn’t suit others um the danger they got doing here is just bringing this race all back back together again now B I can’t see them setting up for anybody else but him had a difficult day yesterday as ell FIP drops back he not getting dropped came uh just getting back on this group after having a chat with his direct suppor probably wondering what is happening behind they’ll be getting the same TV pictures and as the Gap dips under two minutes he’ll get the news that yeah well DSM are now riding he’ll be like what but there you go they want to get a stage one out of this Tedy Pat has now got five Jonathan Milan three you’ve just got to do the maths not many teams have had a look in that um and they’re big teams with big budgets they want results and they’re not just willing to let this break with such a slender lead and get up the rope with so much racing still to come so uh interesting riding there from DSM it wouldn’t even surprise me if B tried to go on The Descent we’ve seen him do that before in in W J to tell you really good point and the rain is falling here bring it back to a minute now if they can and something that Roma bade can work with on this long descent and get across to the front totally and what will happen behind UE if that’s what B’s minded to do and we’ve seen him do that in the past and he he’s got across the move I remember he was with Caruso um on the day that inos blew it apart I think it was the year or was it the year that Bernal won I think it was the year that Bernal won when they blew it apart in the Crosswinds and then there was a really wet descent and attacked on The Descent crossed a big gap um and it’s been a few years since we’ve seen that from Roma but it’s definitely in his skill set and he’s unafraid of taking it on I mean even to get them across because that that group as we’ve said before a save from ballerini is kind of well balanced what we’ve seen so far in this Jalia if any one of those riders today say the break stayed clear any one of them apart from ballerini if they Emer the win you’d say yeah okay um and I think B would like to be a part of that group but the thing is he’s not too far down overall he’s going to have to use his descending skills to try and get clear I think um that’s the only way he’s too far he’s too high in the top 10 not to be followed on the climes Rubio Zana are just behind him arensman will keep an eye as well because he’s only one and a half minutes behind him but uh folks will be will act a little bit differently on a wet descent and B is not bad on a wet descent and and then it’s not just how strong your legs are it’s your you your appetite for risk which is a completely different proposition and I think that’s what we might be geing up for here well what a setting for it to play out in this is the third week of a jro large isn’t it this is what we anticipate it’s just amazing isn’t it the jro just builds to this Crescendo every year because it has to finish up in the high high mountains uh to the north of the country and uh everything else has just cast into the shade by the time we reach this third we we think we’ve seen some big mountains don’t we in the appenines in various different regions we pass through and then we get up here and we go oh no nothing because compared to the site of the dolomites rearing up skywards oh definitely well we’ve got some technical problems as you can probably see right now losing live images off the race hopefully just temporarily I don’t know whether the weather is playing Havoc with the kit it might well be that has happened two before at the jro dalala so I can confirm that apologies yeah I went out to get a little cup of coffee for us both and um there’s a few of the machines the electrics are down um so it is um obviously we’ve got pictures but the weather is pretty bad so there’s a few problems few technical issues on site understandably with the uh the weather that’s been passing through but yeah that’s uh think that’s my my take on on what team DSM are doing but it adds another dimension isn’t it I think I think it’s great when other teams get involved it’s I think it’s fantastic well we can see images from the helicopter anyway using a different pathway this is a remarkably this is a mobile phone link that is bringing you these images very good they are too don’t know which part of the race we’re looking at that’s the front of the race isn’t it the team cars have been pulled into the gap but they might not be there for very long if DSM pull off this tactic and again the two riders that are running for DSM at the moment both very good climbers um will be riding with a again complet different commitment riding the gap down as much as they can where here they’re thinking far further up the the road they’re thinking let’s just get over this climb with a decent Gap but we still got three more categorized climbs to come and that on a stage like this constant playing on their minds although it’s saying it’s gone up to 223 um that’s quite a quite a bounce let’s just see if that corrects itself that would imply that DSM have desisted from their tactic and been replaced so we’ll wait for confirmation of that because that’s a big leap from yeah 1 minute and 50 seconds to 230 yeah yeah very y wait till we see see with the evidence of our own eyes what’s going on in the bunch next time we get contact with them as the Riders at the front of the race are all getting their wet weather gear on and the outer layers in preparation for The Descent not too far for them to get to the top and let’s not forget the really significant battle now for the king of the mountains competition is suddenly keep thinking it’s dead the king of the mountains compe and it keeps coming back doesn’t it’s like it’s like a zombie in a zombie movie I can’t remember a king of the mountains battle where the battle is not yet for first place it’s simply for second place ever being this Dynamic that’s good but I mean there is a there’s a genuine mathematical chance that the Jersey could go from Pacha today yep one of one of the two roders in this breakway one two on the front right now n canana and Julio pel the light blue and the dark blue the veteran and yeah the junior really the uh the most Junior Rider here 20 years of age the youngest rider in the entire race second place on that stage yesterday that was magnificent continuing to relay alaf FIP looks like he’s just resting a little bit on the back there just getting onto the wheel of his former teammate David ballerini still a little bit to go towards the top at 2.2k approximately yeah 2K there you go 2K to the top of the climb as we get yeah nice pitches back roads look a little bit damp they’re not certainly not um well they’re not they’re not dry there’s patches of dry on them but this rain seems to be passing through quite quickly it’s actually just a little bit lighter now at our commentary point that really did roll in got quite windy as well didn’t it up the top here very windy almost storm likee with that uh Thunder that we had it’s not nice is it no it’s not nice it does feel it’s proper kind of it does this every year doesn’t it the J to tell you one way or another well they’re still riding DSM yep so we’ll wait till the time get been taken off our screen so we don’t know what it is I think that was possibly not quite right but yeah let’s wait got the whole team on the front now B well I said the whole team the whole climbing team on the front and B absolutely right Matt is going to probably use the de sense to try and get across to the front of the race and one of the things that you have to think about when you really look at bike races like this all the different component parts not just about one team and one Rider is that teams have to ride like this they have to take the race up sometimes it’s part of what racing is there’s a likelihood that they might not pull it off but if you had that if you said well there’s a lot we’re not going to pull this off guys so we’re not going to ever deploy any sort of strategy or tactics to anything exactly so you see teams have to try things they have to and it builds confidence it’s how Riders learn their craft as well as as Riders it’s to it’s to basically come up with a plan on the road the DS is in agreement with the with the leaders and there’s Roman Bard in third place it’s The Young Riders actually doing the job on the road and it’s such an important drill to do you know this this isn’t training this is live but it might not come off but if they don’t try they’re just going to hand the race or or hand the stage to a rider here and and the Gap isn’t that big so that they going for it and whatever happens you you have to you have to admire that because it’s this race is in danger of the life being strangled out of it really um but the fact that other teams have stepped up moar yesterday they failed but they did something different it ended completely it just imploded let’s see what happens today with Team DSM so we’ve uh timesed the Gap as they went around that little marker at the side of the road at 2 km to the top of the climb and the Gap there just a few moments ago was 1 minute and 28 seconds so they are continuing to take time back on the front of the race as we suspected was a case with DSM still riding on the front remember they took o when they took over the the pace setting here in the Mala Rosa group The Gap was around about 2 minutes and 15 seconds so they’ve taken 45 seconds off the advantage of the Riders at the front Minos grenadiers now Mass as well alongside just moving up on the right hand side of the road taking clothing from the side of the road there Swan are there everybody preparing for this very very long descent as you say it’s they descend all the way down to the foot of the uh next climb of the day the passive Goa and that is until 64.3 km to go so it’s a 30 km descent from altitude they’re very nearly at 2,000 M now yeah and it’s uh it’s not a Valley Road it’s a descent there are some steeper parts and some more shallower parts but it’s not like the Valley Road it’s it’s a proper long descent quite possibly Ned one of the longest descents of the jro from what I’ve seen yep not that I’ve memorized every single profile but just looking at it does stand out as as one of the longest descents and we kick up over the mini pass of the pasel gabera then that’s the the only third category climb of the day that plateaus a bit kicks up drops down to the injo and then we take in the first ascent from the shallow side of the Paso broon so persisting with this tactic lame Razer out of the saddle the Danish Father Christmas at the side of the road good to see that getting ready early isn’t it he is very early as Al Filip pushes on on the front now watch um pitari for the last kilometer has been glued to can’s wheel just keeping an eye on the Colombian there they are and there he is again yeah I tell you what he’s looking lean isn’t he he fit isn’t he altitude training he been on altitude Camp yeah you’re right battle for the points at the top let’s not forget there a First category climb 40 points 40 points if pelar gets this he moves to 146 T Pacha on 200 this is massively important for pelari yeah and also remember no teammates to lead you out on this one and I don’t think there’s going to be any real alliances here um a few Italians in this break but I don’t think after the ride that Ki had to get in this move he’s not going to be helping anybody El so the young man is up against it on his own it’ll be mindful that canana came through very very quickly and although canana likes a long steady climb he’s got a fair bed punch when he needs to I wonder if anyone else is going to try and get in the mix here and take these points and spoil the party for these two canana has obviously identified the king of the mountains competition as a realistic little side side business for him what remains of the J if ballerini’s being told maybe to no I don’t think that’s a just to go for it to try and take away the points from the others but Ru it out quite defensive but yeah but Al Filip moving up here yeah alting that he might be interested he’s eight he’s at 50 got 53 points so and mathematically with 53 could if he wins a hat full of first category CLS could as well so Al FIP moving up and wins the stage that’s 90 points just right there oh and pelar goes long canana uh takes the fight to petani but petani should be able to hold the Colombian off audacious move from the youngster and he does it and that is a really significant moment in the king of the mountains competition petani moves to 146 well this is getting very close a third a second and a first ceg climb still to come but the Gap only 107 now so team at DSM are doing an exceptionally good job at essentially well bringing the race back together possibly or teing up that’s the only thing that we can think about that I can think about should I say is tearing up Roman B for something audacious 3 106 who would have thought we’d have had after what we saw in the opening kilometers of this race who would have thought that we’d have the break and and a bunch this big at only 105 it’s just everything’s so confounding this is a throwback move for me this reminds me of ROM B back in 2017 2018 that era when he was such a prodigiously talented youngster riding for ag2r at the time this was a classic ag2r tactic for Roman B on a big Alpine pass obviously feeling good otherwise he wouldn’t have asked his team to do this that is for sure the fight for position on this descent now yeah mat Tren in at the front there in the red helmet as well an extra little push over the line just to thin things out just to change the shape just to make sure they get bar in good in a good position and let’s to sit back strap ourselves in and see what happens next all right well they’ve brought the gap down to just over a minute they’ve taken a minute and 10 seconds have DSM and now they uh R just for a few meters before the descending start he went really long there he went on off the wheel of a head into a headwind but thing is he gapped him straight away so although he’s gone into the headwind long which isart he actually managed to Gap him and he jumped off quintana’s wheel as well so the fact that he had K’s wheel and kintana didn’t Bluff and try and move him out off his wheel shows that the lad is riding not with just great strength but real maturity as well yeah that’s the thing about headwind isn’t it conventional wisdom says you don’t do that but if you can get the Gap then in the headwind as well exactly can work in your favor very cleverly Marshal there from Julia Pali yeah and what a race we have the king of the mountains competition we do yeah the passel Gaba has nine points at the top of it that’s 58.6k to go the first Descent of the bronc con carries another 18 points that brings him ever so close then have to start doing the maths but there’s a lot of racing between now and then and that Gap is down to 1 minute and 4 seconds as DSM continues set the pace now the Maloo are attentively sitting there in fourth place Danny Martinez being piloted up by Max shakman I think on the right hand side of the bunch there is the pig Jersey just alongside one of his teammates he’s decided to yeah put himself right at the front that’s where we are just over the top the highest point I mean no it’s not the highest point The Climb of course the highest point was earlier on today soorry that was the Chim copy the danger of this is that it becomes a little bit like M star’s R yeah I mean you’ve got what DSM have to do is launch B clear somehow he’s got to leave this group and hope that no one responds maybe take one or two with him but get across to the front because if he just brings this back he is not going to win the stage uh again I think and that’s not I I’d like Roman b a lot but on what we’ve seen so far there’s there’s heat he won’t be able to do that and and because he sits so so highly in the general classification he’s not going to be allowed an inch you know he’s he’s sitting in the in the top 10 he’s at Seventh Place um okay he’s a minute nearly 2 minutes behind um but you know Zan’s going to want to try and attack actually attack him so so Zan for example and Rubio are going to keep a real close eye on him um so the only place I think he’s going to go will be on The Descent but he’s not gone just yet because it’s just again it’s not they’re not dropping off precipitously just yet they they have to have going to have to wait till it gets a little bit more technical unless they’re looking a little bit deeper into the race and they’re just going to ride it down this descent up the next one I mean it’s a long way it long way and it is wet wet descent so they’re a little bit further down not by much but this is actually pretty technical here and I’m wondering this is get a lot steeper as you can yeah whether this is where B might try something a little bit different where else he wow no switch backs and heers they’re dealing with a much steeper gradient there hence that’s built that way is this the moment then [Music] by maybe not I think he’s in third place there isn’t he by day that line of white predominantly white jersey to be pushing a little bit on this descent accelerating out of the corner kicking out of the corners now again it’s not going to be for 4 seconds it’s not going to be for Martinez to check to chase it’s not going to be for pogacha to chase yeah interesting riding but as you say they are taking this gap down mat if he wants to do something on this descent he needs to be the rider on the front doesn’t he and then his teammates need to just almost just slam the brakes on and kind of allow let him go I what I can’t tell from this angle is it but already yeah already they opening gaps already there’s big gaps being opened up rers are starting to struggle a little bit yeah everybody will leave a little bit of a gap more than normally in the wet anyway for for for sliding room couple you’d ride a couple of lengths off and that’s why the pelaton gets so stretched out on a big descent like this is Al again doing rather alip things shaking his legs out on the hoods on a descent rather than the drops yes so hard to see from that altitude but I do wonder whether that isn’t B himself self on the front there yeah there’s some big gaps opening up it’s just forcing it just keeping the gaps it’s just keeping keeping this uh keeping the pressure on all the way through and there’s some really big gaps opening up look at how slowly some of these runs are picking their way through these hair pins in the wet and we’ve got now between the first 15 rods 100 meters so I still can’t tell if it’s B but they’re causing some damage they are pushing on this descent definitely I that’s about from the from the front end to the back end of the pelor that’s about 500 m look at these gaps here I mean we don’t know where they’re causing anxiety stress forcing Riders to possibly take risks they wouldn’t they wouldn’t want to do pushing Riders outside of their comfort zone um you know half the juro’s uphill half of it downhill you know there’s a bit of flat in between but you know what I mean the races can be one on desense and B is one of the best in his craft we we saw vento nib rides a devastating effect on Des sense to help him build leads the Jalia in the past and some of his Monument wins have been built on Des sense so this is a legitimate part of bike racing you need to have skill you need to have nerve and you need to have the ability to take risks as we are getting a bit of drone action here well this is whereas this is back in the bunch isn’t it this is some of the some of the groups or is this the front of the race there we go front of the race that’s Steiner that’s ballerini isn’t it D ballerini got the black rain jacket on now a sense of drone following them down sense of the speed even with the caution that they’re exerting here Ki just comes into the shot I’ll tell you what pets are he’s well placed yeah in the light blue there in third place descending really well just sat there in third yep who is actually on the front is it canana no canana is locked in in fourth place hard to see there but yeah I couldn’t quite tell let’s just see H is it Ki no not Ki it’s interesting see Al Philip at the back though isn’t it he is a consumate Defender but he’s he’s just taking it’s caution first for Al Philip and he does once again he’s suffering from cold fingers isn’t he yeah it’s I think it’s a it’s actually fro I think it’s leading them down at the moment they’re one of five Italians in this move fro of Israel leading them down and uh I think there I mean alip is absolutely fine his hands are cold he’s dropped off a lot I front end of the here just have a look at who’s who at the front of the r there’s aosa got four DSM Riders forcing the pace on the front the time G down to 52 seconds they really are forcing it down here now yeah the black Jersey that’s a teammate of U that was B wasn’t it it looked like B yeah looking round his team are doing a great job for him here they are they’ve had a plan and that’s what they’re doing we thought they might go on The Descent and look at what they’re doing look at how much that Pelon is over a minute long on a downhill not an uphill yeah and there’s some in there’s some proper proper gaps and if they push it over the other side I mean we still got a lot of descending steel to go so best part of 15 or 20ks as we continue to lose elevation yeah it’s um almost 20 km of descending still to go yeah having to push when you’re Tire yeah it’s really good it’s so hard to make up ground oh a little bit of a drift wide there for Emanuel gab jaabir those a confirmation of the Climer standings there pach is on 206 pelari having started the day absolutely nowhere in that competition really is suddenly on 146 points having picked up 90 on the opening uh on the opening half of today’s stage with a promise of more to come the way he was riding game on yeah and and the fact that nobody else from this break away they’re all thinking about the I’m sure pazar would dearly love to win the stage as well but that blue jersey is within his grasp and it’s only canana sprinting sprinting out for the points um 51 seconds now so this riding by DSM has taken another seven or eight seconds out looking at the stats of Caruso and Thomas kuso of course at the front of the race sat in second wheel at the moment just behind his fellow Countryman Freo who uh is descending pretty well 49 seconds having said all of that about pelar this break might be caught before the end of the this you can see them just going around on the bottom right that’s the front of the race and that’s the bunch behind look how much just a couple of hairpins behind look at this Gap here yeah I mean there’s I mean there’s there are some very big gaps but ryer still at the top of your screen that we’re in that pelaton are now best part of a minute down on a descent and this exactly the team have clearly looked at this and this is descent where we can make make a difference we can put people on the back foot worst case scenario we can be disruptive um we want to be involved want to leave our mark on the race and that’s exactly what DSM Ferman postnl are doing right now and they don’t even seem to have deployed Roman B just yet it’s just the teammates driving hard on the front and this Gap continues to drop now 48 seconds 82.2 km left in today’s stage three three categorized climbs still to go a cat three a cat 2 and a cat one we’ve got the Intero we’ve got the second bonus Sprint still to come as well with its three bonus seconds and we’ve got a breakaway of 10 Riders who have seen their advantage shrink on the top the closing 4 kilometers of the massive Paso Ro climb and then continue to contract on the first half of this very long descent over the top there is the story of the time Gap at kilom 50 they had 1 minute and 37 seconds and it did did actually go out to over 2 minutes 210 or 213 until DSM took it up and uh ever since then it’s changed and now they’ve only got 46 seconds yep continuing to drop you hear the screeching of the disc brakes Alf Le still having problems with his hands there some Riders do feel the cold a little bit worse than others we saw Al FIP even after he was caught yesterday shaking his hands out here we go again I think he’s actually trying to blow his hands here a tech a technique that I was taught that does work if any of you out there watching that ride your bikes and I’m sure there are a lot of you it’s just to gently it’s to to hold the bars and squeeze alternative really squeeze the bars with your right hand let go squeeze the hands with your left that really does help get the circulation back is alternate squeezing it takes time and that’s one of the best methods as well as using centrifugal force shaking your hands out to get the blood to the your fingertips but so some just do not function and get hands the hands get very very cold and Al clearly just giving himself that little bit of extra space behind so it doesn’t get in anybody’s way and there we go these are the gaps in the Pelon aren’t they yeah this is incredible from this high altitude it’s borderline impossible to work out who is the wrong side of some of these gaps but there will be some significant absentees at the moment who are going to have to work hard to bring this all back onto the on the next climb and there’s no Valley Road in between really no Straight Up The Descent sha shallows a little bit it’s still a big descent into the the next third category climb which is only a short one 6ks not too steep about 5 and a half% they’ll be up that pretty quick but imagine starting a you know 4K climb with a one minute disadvantage at the back and that’s what we’re looking at now T Pacha is latched on to the back of the Dutch team who are making a lot of the differences on this stage today 44 seconds it is now for the group containing Nicola Ki of abson Deering you’re looking at stage winner the other day julan alip I think it’s fair to say back to nearly his best vintage alute the other day has been one of the most present riders in this race and he riding his first ever J the tal I certainly hope it isn’t his last one would imagine that he might be off to the tour to France as well but it’s great to see him so active eager and willing to race because I think the jural is the purest of the grand Tours it is so unpredictable nature quite literally throws everything at the Riders some hot conditions cold wind rain snow sleet in some of the most beautiful environments on Earth what a stage for a bik race and that’s why this race continues to endure alip on on the hoods around the corner on the whe of Emanuel gab jaabir I’ll go through the rest of the Riders so K is there David ballerini of Geor steinhauser third place on the queen stage of this race remember for EF education easy post marcoo is there for is RA Premier Tech Emmanuel gabir he’s just in front at the moment of a julan Alf for Leal treack narana second place on the queen stage remember from mistar he has been super aggressive today Atela valta also there from Vima Lisa the Hungarian Champion yesterday’s runner up and the youngest man in the race Julio pelari is there for VF group bani and also to round it our 10 rers in the front is Damiano kuso of Bahrain Victorious a teammate of the man in the white jersey as we look at the front of the race yeah cortet of riders here from DSM really good performance from them to this point they prized the group clear of no more than about 1520 Riders then there’s a little split It’s a combination of he slame Razer Chris Hamilton Kevin verar and ROM B who are doing the damage here yeah it’s it’s settled it like you said they’re at 15 roders some of the gaps have actually come back together on these straighter sections and there’s a distinct gap between the second group so I think I definitely identified most of the rers definitely Danny Martinez is there also Gard Thomas tan arensman Al just looks again looks a little bit labed I think he’s literally just suffering from the cold here n yeah strug we did see this yesterday as well shaking out his fingers to try and get some sensation back into them it’s Agony isn’t it when your fingers start to get that kind of in ingrained Frozen feeling in them just agonizing it really just hurts doesn’t it and it’s I don’t I don’t even think he’s got gloves on it’s very hard it looks like he’s got a glove on his left hand and not his right yeah that’s I’ve been there before I don’t know hard to put he’s he’s flicking his right hand out and not his left hand so I think he’s got a glove on his left hand but he’s he’s in danger of losing contact with that front group at the moment and it might all be a moot point anyway because look at the time Gap yeah 39 seconds now oh there’s this big gap so it’s in about four or five seconds to the from this front group about 15 there is the Malia Rosa I think it’s Rafa M the teammate just in front of him the black Jersey that’s it wrapped up against the element tacha does have he has got a k p but it’s a ping one a teammate just behind him as well as they continue to push down this descent disruptive riding they’ve not actually launched B but maybe B can think maybe there’s a couple of the roders they’ve identified as weaker who know they weaker descenders we’re just going to force it on The Descent and if they’re not there we’re just going to force it up the next climb and see if we can get clear they’ve got two more descents to use as well on this on this uh route today on stage 17 one short but another one of a significant length over the top of the P Bron towards the foot of the final Ascent it’s a real Brave game it’s it’s a real you know it’s it’s a bold move to take up a grand tour and a wet descent it really is because it could so easily come off and you could get criticized but right now I mean um they’re doing a really good job again you have to be had to handle a bike downhill in all sorts of conditions to be a professional bike rider and uh and now and again you are really put to the test bleet back on the back of this group again styly has just flicks the bike around the corner another just got Ms just got Ms on both hands yeah it’s incredibly hard you know sometimes to actually put gloves on when your hands are cold I think he’s got beyond that point that actually putting them on is going to make any difference so we can just hope we can get to the bottom of this climb and they warm up very quickly on the asense of the the Paso what the name of this client Paso Goa Goa go something I mean grand Tours are long and over the three weeks um my co- commentator Matt’s eyesight appears to have deteriorated to the point where he can no longer read words on the the font’s just way too small and you’re wearing my glasses I have to say I can’t complain because I’ve literally nicked his reading specs so I’m okay but um if Matt hesitates when he’s reading out the names of the passes it’s because it’s all a blur to him I I I can read but I just need to yeah anyway please forgive me thank you Ned for explaining this is how far we are through the entirety of the Jalia 331 2017.2 kilm in length we’ve done 25984 of them yeah it’s been a great talk a great J to tell it it has and yeah the details of the passor Goa elevation gain of 982 M but it’s 5.7k at 5.8% and a relatively even gradient all the way up qu Main Road and they drop down the other side through the Intero and they take on the next second category climb of the day the Pas Bron from the other side they nearly go through the finishing area don’t actually go through the finish line but they skirt past 42 so it’s gone up a little bit 42 seconds it’s stabilized now but Ned once they hit the next climb they they would almost be envisioned they might have to pull the cars out soon yep well uh once they get over the passo Goa they Dro down and the interj Sprint today is at Canal sanovo and you’re looking at it again filmed on a sunny day [Music] [Music] beautiful like so many of these villages in the foothills of the dolomites well the big gains that team DS I he said sunweb then team DSM are making are have stabilized somewhat seems to have kind of settled in at around about 37 seconds as we look at the composition of the 10 Riders at the front of the race y Al FIP has not relinquished that position at the back it’s the one he’s clearly most happy with gab jaabir likewise they’ve all basically locked in that position nobody’s past each other it’s been fro who’s been the one that’s piloted them down pretty much all this descent n even when he popped out and come back that’s been the exact position they’ve all locked in confident at the skills of the Italian ballerini in second yeah when I did pop out Matt I noted that the rain is continuing to fall here it’s cold rain as well it’s icy rain grim and outside is a bit of a quagmire it’s um it’s it’s not nice and you can even see where they are now on the course it is as they continue to Head South toward towards the passo Bron it’s it’s going to settle in this weather and it’s going to be like this for the remaining 71.7 km and it’s going to get worse so no rest bik sun is not going to come out today I don’t think no not pleasant at all there is the malosa his positioning on this desent has been perfect actually it looks like he’s with Milano yeah it does I wondered if that just just very tanned legs and a slightly larger figure on the bike that’s definitely Milano and unsurprisingly Milano being a Sprinter can handle his bike downhill no problem at all he’s actually locked behind pretty comfortably so a Good Wheel to follow T pater and there he is y that is Juan Sebastian Ronaldo short sleeves Plucky for yeah yeah you’re right doesn’t really feel the cold like normal human beings does he doesn’t doesn’t ride his bike like normal human beings as you say otherworldly at the moment the condition the form of T Bacha 34 seconds now it’s this front group see the back end of it there’s a couple of um sudo quickstep Riders Mark the back end of that front group from the pellaton imagine that would be Yan her Mar Van Sant don’t know it’s a strange mixture of riders in especially with Milano at the to could be Tim merer for a we know but I do think he went early along with a few it’s another story today isn’t it yeah the gretto are going to be hard pushed today they’ll do it I’m sure they do they tend to but that’s this this the front group so just there was quite a big gap with 15 or 20 riders or so contained within that group with Tedy Pacha I wonder if that’s Ben Conor at the back actually it looked like yeah the cat ag2 M rider was the last the last dozen or so Riders at the in the Mal Rosa group Al battling to get back on again twitching around and that was a new twitch I haven’t seen one from him before he got a new twitch to his Rec he’s got a big selection of Twitches yeah he brings out some new ones for the final week of a grand tour slots now onto the wheel of damana Caruso Ki likewise onto the wheel of the Frenchman bit of Valley Road now Matt um and a possibility here very fast but a possibility for the um the groups to come together behind a little bit Yeah Yeah 37 seconds they’ll actually see them as soon as they they’ll see them right now there you go right in front so that’s the Mal Rosa group just shooting through the shot there and onto that long straight flat section of road where they will lock eyes with the back end of the and there’s the next group on the road now the thing for me DSM with this descent nearly over will they continue to run and bring it back is it is that is their job done or are they going to continue with the pace setting over the top of this next climb and down the other side they’ve still got the numbers hav they they’ve got that cartet of riders still there and they wouldn’t have been the effort that they put on they obviously rode the climb but then Ring The Descent it’s more skill than actually physical effort it’s just descending obviously there is the accelerating out of those Corners just to keep that pace nice and high and that’s what another reason why we get this this concertina effect is because rers are decelerating as well as are accelerating so you get this big discrepancy that M I see no reason why DSM wouldn’t continue to ride hard here I mean they’ll be boed by the success that they’ve had so far well they’re back at the front of the race then and and like I say I I don’t think I think the race and Martinez are going to worry about B remember he’s at 12 minutes 12 minutes they pulled out the neutral service they’re all starting to look round and we could get a bit of a reset there you go go be starts in just four kmers time there we are Loosely speaking halfway through today’s race aren’t we yeah three categorized CLS in increasing intensity still to go a three2 and a one just to round things off the first Ascent of the Passover blon relatively easy compared to the final Ascent which is narrow and steep yep very irregular grade and it’s just there’s some steep bits some shallow bits and some more steep bits and there’s even a little descent Midway through and it flattens with in within the last kilometer slightly as well and actually there’s a little drop to 2 km to go yeah they can go that there’s your answer Ned 35 seconds there continuing to Chris Hamilton is on the front just behind him Kevin verak and there is Roman B and then l in fourth wheel so all in for Roman B today or at leas to open up the second part of the race the fact that is there as well we know he can climb really well but again winning a stage like this yeah I think this is all in for ROM but it’s an interesting it’s an interesting tactic isn’t it he had two options today bad day one get up the road and uh compete alongside Philip etc canana for the stage win he would have been allowed to do that he’s so far down on GC probably the other one would have been wait for the GC race to hit the lower slopes and then attack and try and put but he’s opted for an interesting third tactic essentially and it’s remains to be seen if it’s going to be successful yeah they’re using High slim re and I can see multiple Riders there looking back now it’s safe to do so you can’t look round and look back under descent but now they’re looking at what damage has been caused and if we do an aerial in a minute we will hopefully see roughly how many riders are in this group tal poat are constantly looking around just to see the size of this group and there we go look at the damage that they’ve done look at this just ripped this race apart it is indeed Mari van s just at the back of that group Ben Swift is here as well yeah the same thing just trying to actually where are we who’s here tiber’s here Thomas and T arensman are there where’s that Danny Martinez is there just hunch that hunch figure on the wheel of the U team m r in front of him yeah definitely seen tiry St yeah now not seen um yeah I’ve seen Ben oconer so yeah Bacha Martinez Thomas okon Tiber there Zana might not be not too sure if I saw Rubio I think I saw Yan her at the back so everybody that Roman B would like to um kind of jump over is I mean it possibly the only Ro that might not be there is Philip o Zana again he’s in front of him anyway we’re getting a good look down at these R there’s Danny Martinez there’s Ben Swift who you talking to Gar Thomas just tucked in behind him Johny Jonathan Nas Tiber is out his teammates VR Kinton Alman possibly suda quickstep Yan H there’s Tiber I think and Van Sant and is that Beno Conor at the back no that’s vam isn’t it no V the I think there might be I’m not sure there and certainly that Rider at the back was looking round that’s maybe that’s maybe why he dropped to the back but vanr to they got two there and that’s maybe where they’re continuing to ride now because Conor is vulnerable but he’d have to lose four minutes but if uh if he’s caught the wrong side of this I can’t see anybody else wanting to ride though unless Tiber well Tiber Bahrain won’t ride because he’s already got Kus out the road at 37 seconds so he doesn’t need to ride but if they can distance back Ben OK Conor that could be very very interesting but you’re right I cannot see oconor there I can see Yan hurt near the back yeah Conor does not appear to be there as we head back to the front of the race yeah I think I’ll Reserve judgment until we have a slightly better close but a suspicion that Ben is strong suspicion yeah so 37 seconds 64.4 K to go coming up very shortly to the next climb of the Dayo Goa they swing right they’re going to be on it in just a few moments time in fact they might be on it very shortly there we go there’s your logo The Climb start and it is Nicola Ki The Man with local interests who’s driving hard straight to the front here Ned trying to hold on to the remnants of that lead now how long can DAV ballerini hold on on this climb it’s a shorter effort it’s a category three climb just just a little bit less than six kilometers to go on the pass Goa but everyone will start to uh heat up as they they got to maintain a good Pace here they can’t hang around if they want this uh this Breakaway to stay away they’ve got to really invest in this climb and it looks like they’re doing it as Stein haser moves to the front gabrea Julia pelar unzips his Gile Julian alip likewise will be delighted that that descent is over because he was suffering on The Descent ballerini just digs in beds in R of 32 in the light blue of a yeah very difficult to tell the the physical condition of Al because he’s all Lo of his bike all of the time but Caruso was looking around a lot there and wondering if some information has been passed him about the fact that to that okon is out the back and Tober is in this next group they they will close up here by the looks of that that’s a tiny group relatively speaking had pretty much an entire pelaton over the top of that climb and this disruptive riding that we see year in year out from DSM could be paying dividends I think that’s our Orel and P pant is definitely in that group I thought the cathine AG to there’s Milano on the left hand side Gartner is there to buas F out of the saddle yeah yeah be interesting to see what role bar and Victoria play because they’ve got numbers in this group and if is that aonor there no that’s further back that was so aelan is there yeah Orel par pan is another no I’m not is not there that’s Ai and Par pant looking around his brother’s just behind so both of the Parry pantas appear to be there yeah and benon isn’t so dsv have just lost one of the quartet of riders that’s Chris Hamilton is done he’s dropped away that leaves Kevin verak the rider on the front Nowa and 22 second the Gap is coming down massively here yeah they are going to get caught on this climb as everybody uh starts to De decape k here has other the plans there’s not I couldn’t see any little Trek riders in that that little group behind as ballerina responds to an acceleration by gri air now there they are they’ve right in sight now the white jerseys of DSM sweep into view behind the uh 10 Riders who are still at the front of Affairs by round about 20 seconds thing is it’s not the end of their day they can slot into this group take their place recover and go again wait to see how the race develops they just invested a lot hav they there’s one or two roders in particular that invested a lot Nicola Ki he didn’t get on that group is going to had a hard day AA valter and him I think out of everybody a slightly harder day can’s look pretty cool put anybody else who’s in this group yeah there is uh yeah Ben Swift is there on Thomas so quite a few Riders from the in grenadiers actually quite a few from Langan also there as well for UAE team Emirates it’s good to watch this I’ve not seen SL laser do a job like this for his team normally he’s a rider in a breakaway isn’t he yeah it’s quite interesting to watch him switch to a totally different role cly is he’s doing a good job you think about how he rote that second place there’s the group behind and that’s definitely dafflon ag2r having to chase they put one Rider on the front I mean arguably you you could expect person vamy and the par panas to to drop back I mean depends which way they want to play it tell you what the team it’s a big decision send send two back and leave one of and leave uh I’d leave Valentin up the front and drop yeah they don’t need all three of them there do they is not going to win this stage today you can chance it no no but potentially and Valentin could so yeah it’s us adopting a DS role for to Cath Agia to are but there’s so many different permutations we we have to try and analyze and break apart the What could may happen in this race and right now we are seeing some fantastic team riding by a squad that we did not expect to figure today or not exactly figure or be or such a m play such a major part yeah that is Randi at the back just in front of Mari or just behind Mari van San so they’ve swept up I think that’s it for he’s done as Kevin verak sets up Roman B he’s beginning to whittle through his numbers what happens when verak can go no longer this is a play this is a play for the stage this is splitting yeah wow well pagach has gone with Roman and Danny Martinez is sprinting to try and get across gar Thomas has got a respond to Martinez as well look at pogacha he’s just floats onto the wheel of by there everybody else is scrabbling for their lives Pacha totally EAS Martinez coming though Thomas ra M I think or Gart is on the wheel there as well yeah has put a lot of riders still a lot of racing to go in a lot of difficulty te bar where he’s dropped a little bit but DM what a tactic here now what can bade get out of this other than getting beaten by T pagach that’s that’s the problem that he’s got and it’s pink and it’s on his wheel but he’s very nearly DSM are very nearly at the front of this race now yeah they’ve swept up ballerini he’s gone they swept up AA valta one of two others there are only four five six seven Riders still at the front and Kevin verak is coming in fast yeah Caruso unzips his top as he continues to warm up narak kintana similarly strong riding here with a smooth style of Emanuel G 3.2 km to go from the top of the climb and they sweeping round the Ben there and DSM feric led by Kevin ver maret still on the front bade out of the saddle just behind him and then the Flappy pink jersey of T pogacha who again has come out to play this is such an interesting bike race Ned yeah did not expect anything like this today no it’s extraordinary and it’s been animating hats off to DSM regardless of what happens for the remainder of the state they’ve really been in this bike race they’ve shaped it completely crafted it and they they possibly I mean I don’t know where Ben Conor is through this mess no but he’s but he’s possibly on his own that cre just there coming there yeah possibly but whatever happens it’s put but benon has now got a Chase to get back on it doesn’t look until the top of this climb as if DSM are going to EAS off they know that Alon is under pressure and even if he chases and gets back on you’ve got two more Ascent got two ascents of the Passover Bron to come so that’s going to weakened him it’s not straightforward is it no no no not at all so Kevin verak persists sweeps up the Breakaway now that’s the front of the race Roman B sits on the wheel of his American teammate Damian Kuro looking around pogacha even looks like he’s having to work here it’s a great ride Kevin verak kuso is having a word with t Bacha saying what’s happening what is all this about he’s actually smiling and well these guys are in the bike race this is the thing we we think that races go to a certain formula and and should be raced a certain way every single team in this race can do what they want to the race if they want if they apply themselves and that’s exactly what they’re doing here I think I’ve seen better Conor I think I’ve sponsored Ben Conor I think okay so hard to see oh no it was a p pan wasn’t it 63 yeah that’s a that’s aelan but he might be in there but I just don’t know he’s still the isn’t he he is still the mystery man Ben Conor well that’s that’s Freo in there as well this group is we’ve got a couple of the riders or is that might be in there anyway such chaos and uh the chaos has been animated in particular by DSM feric here 60.9 km in this bike race to go the marker by the looks of it Matt is going to take this climb on the front and continue to ride as hard as he can over the top yeah pazari is still in this group as I remember for the initial Breakaway that looks like it is benon actually just there he’s been hiding is he on the wheels there’s P Pam are moving up on the right hand side well this put this the most hidden Rider yeah that’s him that’s that’s his face there yeah that is okon yeah so panic over for the Caton the Panic that we created he was fine he’s he’s not panicked at all very good positioning and actually they’ve got numbers in this group it’s impressive yeah three Riders to support their man who sits fourth overall now all those Riders who are in that original breaker not all of them but most of the better climbers are in this group as well they can go again Julian alip Julia pelar he’s still there Nicola Ki is still there don’t rule them out NRA canana to the best of my knowledge is still in this group I’d imagine they’re going to be ever so slightly diminished but they are still there he as the the motor tries to go through a space that let’s be honest wasn’t there wasn’t quite there yeah Kevin ver marker getting a little bit frustrated Martinez just lets the wheels open there get the shattered again Garett Thomas bleue to Danny Martinez wheel at the moment T adman alongside him you could just see another conversation there Rafa Micah having a chat with his team leader about about what’s going on again having a conversation at this sort of speed for a lot of people not impossible Al FIP still there as well Yan Hur out of the saddle Valentine P Panther just caugh a little glimpse of him Nar canana drifting towards the back but still very much in this group as woman B issues further instructions to his young American teammates Kevin verak what a ride this is from DSS V pulls out V pulls the pin has a little assessment I think he’s just gone back to Toc interesting just have a little look it didn’t look like he was done B no I think he’s was going back just to see it’s a little bit more shelter in the back there rather than directly on his wheel y as I said before you do get a lot of shelter from riding behind one Rider but you’ll get a lot more from riding at this sort of speed if you’ve got a couple of riders around you what’s he just told ver marker now can we notice any change in the way V Mar’s riding because there was a further instruction coming from B and again he’s actually taking the radio out there and he’s actually got it in his fingers rather than just pressing it on his biip shorts I for Mark has only just noticed he’s no longer there yeah fasinating really intriguing well he’s not stopped riding no he’s still pressing on yeah and we got a k King of the mountains coming up shortly pelari is there yes narana is right on this just riding very close to pelari so expect a little bit of a Sprint between the man from mist and the man from VF group bani there is narak kintana about 12th back just sat behind the man who’s a lot younger than him I mean there’s only nine points available but they all absolutely matter now don’t they so pelar if he can do it who knows how much longer he might be in this bike race before he’s eliminated but there’s the there’s the reward at the top of this cat three Cline nine points the way that pelari rode yesterday again he’s venturing into unknown territory now isn’t he essentially a big GC group not the break has been caught but by a big group from the GC so pet kevinar is gone yeah ver Mar’s gone so everything slows down a little bit Julian Al drifts to the front this will allow pelar if you can find the room on the left to launch an attack at will goes first his teammate listen he’s don’t want to go take take my chances on my own here I’m going to go for this one get over the top he might not be immediately be chased down and he isn’t because all the GC roders have essentially neutralized themselves and there’s a few more rers now getting on behind you see that behind that’s Zana Zana was definitely gapped yes so he’s now just got back in for JA alula so G Shir goes again again and now it’s Caruso setting the tempo’s attacking on the left hand side of the road trying to go after GI jaia there he goes taking Kitana with him and then steinhauer so the original breakway almost re part at least reforming now potentially canana watching pazari pazari has got a bit a few more points it’s almost like if you want to get maximan points you can actually Chase gabri gby I’m not going to lead you out so pelari quite rightly it’s just backed off ever so slightly and can use he’s clearly quite an explosive Rider so rather than lead out canana and and flashing by him might lead it to a likly slower explosive effort and the points well the large amount of points going to the man Steiner cranking it up steinhauser might be clear in second place and sweeping up four points for second place but uh the maximum nine points are going to go to uel gab here and Stein has has just clipped off the front of that group now so over the top of the third categorized climb of the day the Pas Goa amuel gjab takes the maximum point of pelar is off trying to oh canana couldn’t see between those two looked like canana might have rolled him there either way they were only competing for two and one points respectively those two y Luke plat just the back of that group as well zambanini also here Sim geska just at the back of this group as well a battling ride by geska I just don’t Rec him in red we G looking very good here descending that’s like a demon and climbing so well yeah strong ride relatively short descent Now isn’t it in fact in fact a little bit of descending now and then it kicks back up again for a few kilometers before The Descent proper begins towards the inter dudo at Canal sanvo and they take that at 47 kilm to go so broadly speaking downhill for the next 11k here’s that Sprint again there’s a Stein are going first so he takes second place bit of a standoff side by side standoff between nari kintana and pelari it’s a very late Sprint who opens things up first it is indeed pelari who goes and this should give us a clear indication of who ultimately got that but nari canana still got a fair bit of punch isn’t he let’s have a little look at this P oh pelari just yeah tight it’s tight again very tight carrying more speed over the line Yeah but whether he got it before the line remains to be seen not much reward though for that effort for those two just two and one points as I say for third and fourth place at the passo well this has really kicked things off and who who’s going to take up riding now because there’s no real Breakaway although there’s a couple Riders just up the road is Su on the front y well who they got in this group Alan Philip and Yan H right and and as well still there yeah Ki now on the left hand side with Michael store on his will trying to get across to steinhauser KI desperate to try and get a result and he manages to move clear there’s the pellaton I mean this is this is potentially a very important part of this race isn’t it because if a group if a fighting group of five or six gets up the road again they might they might be allowed to go because after after for all of that what have dfm done well all they I mean who can they they’ve only got verar and B they’re not going to do it again I think Mich out the back there with gesko wasn’t he so he’s gone that deep sent him out the back so uh yeah yeah it’s it’s we’ll see what happens when all the dust settles and the we get the result of this race but B’s created a split with his team but right now arguably he should be trying to go with these guys or trying to get something started it’s now look like up they fancy they’ve got a lot of rides in this group as well that’s interesting and they’ve got resource like the liks of Ben Swift to ordinarily well actually Ben Swift can last very long go very deep into a stage so I’d imagine they’d use him up at the moment if you’re if you’re Danny Martinez you’re put on you’re put on warning now aren’t you yeah they’ put been Swift on the front here yeah so Swift Thomas Ironman Naz and then Danny Martinez who once again is is isolated in this group I don’t think he’s got a teammate there he has you’re right I think you’re right well that’s that’s the play it’s the play for second and third now that now we’ve had the B story uh it switches and it’s inos versus Danny Martinez I think at the front of the bunch it’s almost like teams taking briefly taking the stints of controlling the race and handing it over to somebody else to see what they can do with it okay what that’s what what what it feels like doesn’t it because there’s no real yeah discernable end game there for for DSM that I that I could I could find but this is what we said at the beginning of the day because if you take if you remove pagach from the GC because everything is so fluid and flexible and changing from second to 10th that could be the pattern of the day that different teams try and exert their pressure and and gain their advantage on and that’s shaping the race at the moment it is well this man’s got 23 Second Advantage but inos now with a fairly concerted looking Ride Now Ben Swift will go very deep here if that’s what he is instructed to do yeah switches position and the two protected Riders Thomas and ensman on the wheels yes headling very nicely there n is just on his will as you said and then Danny Martinez a former teammate of course of the rers in front of him just sat behind the former double British champion sat pedling a nice Rhythm as a Steiner tries to bridge across to to many old gab he’s not doing it at the moment shows how well gab zir is really going in this race spent so much time on the front of the on working for Jonathan Milan in some of the flatter stages it almost seemed like they’re in a different race don’t they those stages with Milan one in seem A Million Miles Away right now yeah another opportunity for the sprinters tomorrow today he’s getting across maybe slowly but surely two very contrasting styles on the right Stein haser uh shows you how hard he’s working this man doesn’t he is very impassive very solid on the bike very efficient yeah rolling that gear really really nicely ping building his lead over the inos grenadiers as well at the moment 25 seconds still a very Cony and now we start yeah so now the descending begins off the top of the Paso Goa actually if he glances round and sees steinhauser good it’s a good Rider to wait for they’re both very good climbers but importantly good rulers as well on this next section could ride well together there’s a slight kick up about three CS the way down The Descent not much and actually a tiny little bit of Flat Road just after the interj and then we’re on to the next big climb of the day up Paso Brock on for the first time that’s scaron I think right at the back and in front of him David ballerini at the back end of this penaton as they now start to descend as well down to the inudo at Canal sanovo yeah I think Kevin verar has managed to just get back on that group as well with Simon geska so good riding by verar and geska after just getting lash a just over the top fought the way back into contact wow everyone well it’s day for the break well fli I don’t know I don’t know what to make of this Matt it’s so unusual it’s so strange in many ways at this point in the race if you stop it now you think well what how’s this going to play out DSM have done something quite similar to what mvar did on different Terrain yesterday we haven’t had a Mountain Stage apart from Perry Pan’s Victory where the break has stayed it’s just been a yeah just been fast active and a GC day and right now with the climb we’ve still got to come unless they stop riding behind the fact that other teams have taken it up and UAE haven’t really needed to do too much riding today the road on the long climb earlier on just to set settle things down and actually we’re letting the break incrementally go clear and it was only when DSM took it up that it shuted down then the break was going clear again we saw the flat we saw yui go across the road Tedy Patu in the center this break St this little break starts to go clear and then in graders have taken up the race again so as soon as the race has started to slacken and lag in terms of pace other teams have Pi picked it up for their own [Music] reasons trying to get in contact Ben Swift doing what he’s do still riding hard on the front here think it looks like it’s less of a Pursuit just keeping this Tempo quite High to be honest with you yeah effectively they’re not unlike unlike DSM potentially when they were on the front and they were thinking about getting B to the front of the race and competing for the stage yeah OS graders are not competing for the stage here they’re just softening up potentially to attack Danny Martinez later on yeah so it’s a different now what are we you looking at here what he’s having a go he’s having a go Kevin ver marker isn’t he what you doing yeah well like you say DSM have every right to do what they’re in the bike race they pinned the number on they paid their entry fee the fact that somebody is angered is basically disruption it’s all about disruption and you got to remember it’s super super I think they’re one of the most disruptive teams out there quite often I can’t find a ration being disruptive for being disruptive s but what they’ve done’ affected the foreign foree so wish Okay Okay Kevin did well just to ignore that I think from raer mik seemed as if he didn’t respond he’s doing his job he’s been told to do that by his DS he can just ignore it I I didn’t it didn’t bat an eyelid no I’ve got a lot of time for rafar he’s a lovely blow and and there always will be frustrations when things don’t go according to plan or a team does something that oh that what really wasn’t supposed to happen today the easiest thing to to criticize them especially a rider so senior as Rafa Mah but for me in this new modern era of cycling of which Tedy poach is a leading protagonist you’ve got to understand that other teams are going to try and some do something different as well y I agree which is a good job because we have to sit alongside one another G Gil steinhauser is making heavy weather of getting across to G here he’s in cont he’s within touching distance of the uh a Tran but um he is a consumat brilliant descender and we see that time and time again from there was a moment ago when he was nearly e how to do isn’t it get a gap but it looks like indos graders are bringing them back yeah just keeping this going [Music] meanwhile two out in front carving it’s hard work with the carving a little bit of a lead out 41 seconds intermediate Sprint 1.7 K to go they’re about to go up a 13 km clim and it’s not the last one either so uh those 42 seconds it’s a decent lead but it’s not much yeah and we got two good climbers out in front we’ve got a lot of very good climbing power behind and we’ve got just this hint that idios grenadiers are going to try and put Martinez under pressure and if that’s the case uh then they’re going to ride very hard and that time Gap will come uh come down fast yeah there is it any Martina just a few Riders back as we focus on the Mal Rosa getting used to him on that uh Pink deal kago with the deal on the rims as well Cut’s quite a Natty Dash doesn’t it Natty Dash Matt yeah I agree Stein Hower every time you go on on these descent just gaping him isn’t he on Corners left to right G should be just absolutely Arrow straight yeah he is so so smooth just a little bit more confident on the corners and that’s why is it’s it’s not about a power thing although clearly gabir is flying at the moment it’s just on the corners on these technical Corners in the wet Rod has just had that little there’s quite a big disparity between the best descenders and the there briders who who really do struggle especially in the wet something that you have to learn over time as well as you build confidence only it takes is a bit of a an off or a crash it can take a long time to get that confidence back descending at speed on wet roads 42 300 me Ste and now roll through they’re a good Duo actually quite similar although they’ve got slightly busier a star from steinhouse they’re actually very similar physi physiques aren’t they pretty big for climbers AR they both of them big powerful rulers that can get over the climbs effectively as well but a 41 second Gap over this sort of climb with the amount of uh r that we had behind is going to be very difficult but see if any El grenadiers want to continue with this Steiner will be on the podium at the end of the day the winner of the Intero with gab jaier on his wheel they pick up three and two bonus seconds there’s one bonus a second available from the peleton now interestingly I wonder to one’s going to try and Sprint for it it’s normally a g Thomas sort of move isn’t it oh well they’re still off the front aren’t they at the moment at least Al Philip and yanil in are coming in quite hard here yeah they are it’s almost this is the one you just send Johnny NV up the road just to take one drages them back Al neutralizes the B to second with h on his wheel pogacha the last in line Martinez Under Pressure there the wheel there just a few bik lengths weren’t they they’re really pressing you can see the gaps opening up here lot of riders just suffering to stay in the w three go near the back there as well that’s H slazer yeah he did Slender Dutchman did a big yardi just second from the theultimate ride in that group as well oh he’s doing a great ride just to be in this situation he’s moved comfortably into second place in the uh King of the mountain standings so there’s a strong possibility whatever happens to him tomorrow uh today that he’ll start the day in blue tomorrow it should be a big honor for him well what a lively race we’ve had and now they’re go now imminently they’re going to take on the Paso blancon for the first time up the Alber Go Side 13.3 km and dropping down towards the climb the interesting detail for me on this race is that at the top of the main climb of the day we had a Pelon have run about 100 Riders and the damage today to force this selection has happened on The Descent that’s the interesting detail so far uh and and the winner of the stage I would imagine if inos grenadiers keep riding behind and they certainly are because the Gap is dropping despite the best efforts of our duo in front that the win is going to come from that group where the selection was made on the downhill quite an interesting one so DSM have definitely had an influence on the race whether one of their Riders can get a good performance out of it today well it’s only going to be B I think that’s able to because of the work that b Marcus put in and the work that Heist lame Razer has put in as well as they file over that’s a beautiful site isn’t it fing over this bridge yeah these successive man-made wears LED that a really unnatural look don’t they but the way that man has tempered nature Mount of water cascading down the side of the mountain it’s breathtaking and a wonderful shot you’re right of the remains of the the remains of the bike race filing almost single file over that Viaduct onto the climb they go then good shabir and steinhauser with 37 second lead over a pelaton being led by inos grenadiers there are the raw statistics well gave you a slightly misleading fact that it’s actually 15.4 km in length they go over the top of it with 31.8 km to go but it’s um it’s the easy side of the mountain compared to what they’ve got to climb to get to the Finish Line next time around it’s also a little bit cruel of the organizers to for these Riders to actually they will be able to reach they’ll be able to if they look right at the top of this climb go through the kingdom mountains but they’ll see the finishing Gantry but they then got to lose all the elevation they’ve written up again but harder hard really again so jro so any inos on the front 36 seconds Ben Swift then n then Thomas then T islandman well we know the score it’s first time we’ve seen inos in the Jiro take on a race like this though isn’t it to try and actually dictate terms they sense a bit of vulnerability in Danny Martinez today yeah and that little Gap we just saw going through the interiro as well it just off the wheel there whether that was somebody else creating a gap was an interesting one that’s another Rider interesting is Michael ree as Julian alip says goodbye to the front of the race after another swash buckling performance I mean every time it hasn’t been a regular Sprinter stage and even when the Sprinter stages he’s been trying to lead out Tim Malia often to great effect but on pretty much every other day somehow Al Philip’s in it I I think that it’s been brilliant you know what he’s got that stage win we’ll we’ll see more of him in this race I think as well um but he’s just building his condition as well the way is racing then to dropping away and then getting in recover then he just it appears to me there’s a particular shape to the way he’s riding that’s interesting go sh moves to the front so Swift still there yeah dropping though he’s dropping isn’t he slotting he’s just slotting in there isn’t he yeah he actually wants to wonder if he wants to go a little bit quicker he’s just drop dropping in behind Gartner just in front of teon arensman well since gr shner has been on the front the Gap has grown a little bit because gr shner is not interested at the moment in riding this one down the thing is the two Riders out in front you know with only 43 seconds um there’ll be a lot of riders in this group from the GC that are like are they are they frightened of trying to go for a stage win because of the presence of taly Pacha so what do they do it’s very very difficult you know T Pacha we’ve seen isn’t going to give anybody a win so they’ve got to really got to think about how they try and open up a bit of a gap to beat this man the longer it stays like this you know I mean it could be those two that go to the Finish you just never know there is indeed scaroni and that blue jersey which will be handing over again you got lights of canana ruio as well so some very good climbers still in this group that are a little bit further back on the general classification that I don’t think could be followed if they go clear gka is still in this group at the back going only dropping back to hand over his g s geska as you say oh gr is just knocking it off yeah they don’t need to ride do they no and I think Tedy Batu would be happy for a group to actually go to the finish so it’s like well if you want to take it up and win today’s stage somebody else has got to do it there we go that’s exactly what’s happened y so anybody else want to win today there’s your chance is what that that’s signaling that and these two runs have taken the initiative they’re up the road if you want to bring them back you put somebody on the front or you try and fire across and the racing kicks off so um what that does show regardless of the fact or not of gabri jaabir and Stein house are staying clear today what they have done is taken the initiative and that’s what you got to do sometimes you cannot wait especially how complicated it is behind there all of the main GC players are there locked I mean the fact that this is the penultimate climb and not the last climb is you go is a factor here Marco fuger kicks off again and Nicola koni so some of the original breakway Riders then going again and this could be well this is the third time we’ve seen a breakaway form with the only reason it came back was because of DSM so it’s basically you know a couple of the the two rids in front W yeah they were they were in the original move there we go another move it DSM one a bit a bit of the action yeah little piling forward now aren’t they valta going again Michelle ree one of the Riders from VF group bani so what have allowed to happen is like well guys if you you just it’s a bike race don’t need to ride anymore uh so just there you go and then they’ll just just ride behind so it’s just the natural e and flow of the racing now that will determine whether our two Riders out in front survive or not it’s as simple as that but none of this suggests that inos have have given up on their tactics I just think they don’t need they don’t want to do it this far out it’s just a long way to get too far wait till the last climb martinz under pressure because they’re not interested in in the stage today another 25 minutes on this climb 20 it’s under 50 minutes of climbed in this race yeah and they’ve got a fairly diminished resource haven’t they they’ve got Ben Swift and Jonathan n but that’s it and then it’s their two leaders their two leaders yeah so they built up a good lead here steinhauer gbra zir remember third a few days ago or the day before the restate when tal Pacha was rampant but’s attacking yeah fro has gone clear as well is that lineer yeah it is yeah stay back you’re absolutely right Sanchez I think where’s pelari little bit further back isn’t he yeah just the re quite rightly having a wait as a coni too far away as well he SL Riser just riding on the front here has not got a has not got a gap he’s got Riders on his wheel and he’s uh it’s interesting he’s got a teammate up the road in Kevin verco who did attack I’m not quite sure what sler is doing riding so hard on the front of the Mal Rosa group I think Kevin Mark has gone back he just got ped on the the back by tal Pacha right so fro looking focused great shot at the face of this young man is really coming coming good over the last couple days the first man to attack yesterday in the wet and now up the road today trying to bridge across this Gap and he’s managed to open up a decent lead on the main Bunch L Razer trying to ride down marcoo the Gap going out to nearly two minutes to the front of the race to get jair and Steiner they really got this D haven’t they steer and K jaabir there are two rers that that could carry this but it all depends on how they ride behind and that’s why d ATT opening Resort on the front to ride very very interesting this one but they’re not making any time on the two in front closing down fre goal but not making any time on the two leaders at the moment if that Gap is to be believed 1 minute 11 seconds to marcoo from the front of the race second s for this man after nearly getting dropped off the last one I think that’s the reason why he’s not having much of an impact he doing what he can but just say he’s not yeah having said that the two Riders at the front of the race have been working hard up to this point as well G and Stein has it’s not like they’ve had a day off not at all they’ve already they were already in that early 10-man Breakaway yeah to go again on a stays this hard is impressive [Laughter] so the Chaser at 109 fresh bottles are needed for the young German interviewed yesterday wasn’t he and said that was definitely the best run of his career would definitely be up the road again if he can help it and here he is today it’s been the revelation of The A Team to be honest with it for me yeah he’s been by far the most solid and consistent performer at this race in in a j that has frustrated them to this point they’ve not managed to get particularly close to a victory probably the closest they came was that Michael vren second place into Luca yeah Stein as is impressed yeah yeah vren was was good on the first first 10 or 15 days and this man has come come good in the final week There’s a gap coming down a bit now so that looks a little bit more realistic than near a two minutes yeah Ki there St the third whe wheel behind the bobbing around figure of Mai van San yeah don’t let that style uh think that he’s at the end of his limits that’s the way he always rides yeah tell you what is that feel REI there it looks like looks like flipping F in the mix looks like Harrison W just getting dropped there in the company of Sanchez by theab P Sanchez it’s a good ride by Harrison Woods just getting distance now at pelari getting distance as well un Ely yeah he’s got those slightly crises elbows hasn’t he the way he sits especially when he’s out of the saddle yeah so those three Riders drifting off the back of this punch that’s being pulled up the mountain by H Li it and actually Nicola koni just pulled out of that line there and dropped away y can’t hold the pace Freo wondering well they’re doing it again bringing me back okay what we’re going to do here just got to concentrate on his own race as the Leal treack team car speeds past been impressed with Lan Riser today done a huge block of work for for DSM Christian scon also under pressure at the back of this group so L Riser is dropping Riders one by one they thinning this group out still a sizable group maybe 25 25 Riders strong but lime rer is dropping singular Riders one after the other and he’s just pulling this Italian Rider from Israel Premier take back uh with each passing passing curve yeah steady job actually Ben s is dropping down that group as well I know he’s not second place Yan Hur and him look reasonably similar from a distance as we head up the road to our two leaders one and five so he’s doing a good ride yeah Lane laser yeah still a long way to go to the top of this one needle Tre in the E education easy post needle Tre with a lot of success already with Jonathan Milan but great to see because they haven’t really got an overall ride it’s great to see they give opportunities to everybody else as well Rego looks around thinks okay well that was that Ben Swift locked into third position communicating with his team leader Thomas just behind him the picture of concentration on Ben Swift’s face I know this is going to be very painful as well Swift swift is really important Swift marshalling his energy here and his resources is going to be incredibly important foros over the course of the next 40 kilometers if they if they want it he’s only got to take back I say only he’s got to take back 22 seconds to regain second place in this interesting tussle between Mar Martin and and Thomas Martinez and Thomas and he’ll provide him with it g struggling here that’s not he just looks I mean I know it’s a bit steeper here but looks like he looks like a different Rider all of a sudden yeah reaches for a drink time Gap comes to comes back to under a minute now just 59 seconds out of the saddle and suddenly struggling to find a gear that he can master that he can stay on top of I think Steiner might actually we saw the way that Stela got got clear on the queen stage he kind of just rode himself into the climb didn’t he y couple Riders d That’s a Luke PL and scaroni scon Luke PL now dropped from that group scon likewise and ahead of them I think Nicola koni has just been detached from that Malia Rosa group as well did look like him didn’t it in that blue jersey as now sud quickstep take it up come to the a of DSM and it’s Mari Fant with Yan h on his wheel Yan clearly feeling good here if there’s a rider near that they’ve thought well Yan herur for potential stage win is one of stage the jro before yep very difficult I think it was a do mitti stage that he’s won the fact they taken it up suggest there’s either one Rider missing or he just want to keep this High to give him a chance and that’s I think that’s what it is every team now who’s got a has got a teammate and an opportunity to win this one and yaner is a rider that Pacha wouldn’t follow one would imagine okay he’s 10th overall he’s at 14 a very distant 14 minutes Gap stabilizer now 59 seconds 300 met the Gap and there we are on the climb well round halfway now just under now looks across takes his turn it’s going to be so interesting to see what Ted paj does on this stage I mean go shner go sh’s gesture down at the the first kilometers of this time was almost as you brilliantly described it was an invitation to all the other teams to go take the win but uh the way it’s played out they haven’t attacked they’re just dragging it back so pature is being dragged back into this stage now he is strangely the canalizing Prospect of a stage win which so many people want is just keeping the race together yeah yeah that’s basically what it is and then and in and the bizarre byproduct of that is that you’re offering up another opportunity it’s extraordinary yeah and it’s not not actually T Pat’s fault or uee at no point have they written this race back at no point today have they written this race back they’ve almost done the opposite yeah but Mar fence evident and sud quickstep are the latest team to drag it the front of the race back or at least control it haven’t quite got the same Suess as this man LZ who really made a difference when he was on the front Van Sant with that slightly more choppy style of his is allowing is actually losing the battle slightly just incrementally to G jaabir and steinz at the moment who add another seconds to their advantage and that the shape of the group changed it bunched up ever so slightly the pace isn’t quite as hard and and the the fact well Luke PL as you just pointed out I think Luke PL has got de Mari still in this group as well so a couple there Z still think was Z actually should I say geska still here they continue to winch their way up this twisting climb freshly surfaced 7K to go still to the top of the passo first Ascent the albergo ascent there’s Luke plat back on having been distanced Michael Figo still there Michael stora he’s been attacking today nioni still back on yeah 107 so despite the best efforts of Van s not moving quite as effectively as quickly as Steiner G ja out to 108 now there you go going Thomas on the radio here what happens when van can go no further I doubt very much he can sit on the front and do this kind of effort all the way over 6.5 km to the top of this climb and when he’s done it might be that we have another gos shot at the moment we Tim ride to the front and say well is that it are we done well right right now St and grair are are riding very very strongly and looked a bit you know there’s a couple of moments where they were looking like they’re weakening but they they’re clearly suffering there’s just no doubt about it this deep into a Mountain Stage you are suffering you are at or near your limit fighting the gradient knowing full well you’ve got to do this all again on a narrower steeper road but right now got all there’s several Riders here that know that they’re not going to be able to leave talacha behind and there’s there’s a few that would would like to but they really got the legs so the best way to do it is to go early and this is what these two Riders have done hoping that they can hold on to the finish and hoping that behind the GC rders neutralize themselves and nobody else has got the ability to bridge the gap cuz it’s going out again now 110 heck of a Long Way to the Finish though and that’s it oh yeah pant is done and UAE come to the front and they will just slow things up again go shner moving to the front and that will add big big lumps of time to the two Riders at the front of the race until unless another team takes it up but no inclination and they are using line if he’s even still there can’t be expected to go to the front again and Fant is dropping away because we’ got this we’ve got to go over this down the other side up again still a lot of racing still to go vanon isn’t even dropped yet they’ve really backed it off um yeah this is I think the problem for B here is that he’s just a little bit too high up and if he does go he’ll be shut down immediately by several Riders so even B now I think he’s got to use his resource wise having said that lame laser was just moving up on the right hand side of the bunch as if he were about to get back onto the front as if he’s been asked to by his team leader yeah do it all over again just looking for room on the right yeah the fact that drop Riders are now getting back on tells you all you need to know yeah well the time Gap is speaking for itself at the moment right out to 123 scon with his rain jacket stuffed into his back pocket you can tell it that stuffed in in a not in a panic but in certainly in haste doing it as quickly as he can here we go gka oh this is a good play looks around nobody’s chasing Mich re goes from ARA BNB and an attack on the left hand side of the road as well from who’s that is that kadzo going again I think it is and Kevin verar zambonini isn’t it zambanini time zambini verak has gone off the front that’s an interesting move so immediately gr’s gone in start riding in start riding why did g do that I think just put a rider up the road rather than Chase one it get a r of the road to grard and have a stage win just jumping across the just jumping across the gaps true just wasn’t and says Michael ree has brought this all back together this is very interesting racing here very rare we see anything like this with the race so delicately poised yeah and meanwhile with these little bits these little attacks and then the slowing down is just giving our two leaders out in front a little bit more time 123 now 5.3k to go to the top as it slows down again and that makes the potential for another attack watch out for the M Star Riders they’re still lurking in this group you know na canana still there hasn’t done much recently since he was away in that original 10-man group poo Sanchez I think is still there L goes back to the front and it’s this tactic all over again yeah just fascinating the E and flow of this climb isn’t it it really is just each time you think well that’s done something else emerges yeah it’s almost if they okay we’re we’re willing to use our here but then we can’t do it all on our own we just need to use the way the uh the movement the momentum of the of the racing to almost compensate and then we’ll fill in again later on but averaged out all they’ve done ultimately that t style of racing has just given time well they’ve earned the time but it’s just it’s given them a little bit more time to the to the leaders they’re actually still riding pretty well but this is going to be hurting that is for sure still Long Way to the Top of this climb It’s a Long Way to the finish of the race isn’t it 36.7 km I mean they’re they’re in purgatory now these two AR they they have no idea at this point because it’s unguessable as to whether or not they’re going to be competing for the stage win here they are simply obliged to carry on hurting themselves on this climb and see what happens it’s not really up to them it’s up to how the pelaton behaves exactly and the fact we’ve got the likes of of gar Ree attacking off the front just shows that the pace was really knocked off um when you’ve been suffering and suddenly it gets very easy you can think you can actually get a little bit ahead ahead of yourselves well I’ll I’ll try and attack here and then it’s put into start perspective when they start riding anywhere near Tempo again quite a drop there a little bit of a plateau once they go through the king the mountain point at the top the road flattens and then d bags on over at the top and then drops down we got a long Descent of about 15ks off the top in the meantime vote for your personal choice for the most aggressive Rider on today’s stage it’s quite a choice it is as well isn’t it scan the QR code post your vote and you can choose from G steinhauser am G naido kintana or Julio pitar all of whom you could make a valid case for I think if I was voting be the man from needle Trek twice in the move started this one off didn’t he yep but again don’t let me influence you You’ watched the bik race as well grinding up to the top of this 10 ultimate climb of the day good picture yeah superb superb riding it’s a good lead that they’ve managed to to chip it’s been a gradual one as well didn’t just go bang did it they’ve really had to earn it but it’s just been coming back and forward Midway down the bit the uh the little ring swapping turns really nicely but the riders that are interested me are the real pure climbers in that group and you pointed them out a few moments ago it’s Rubio and also NRI kintana they’ll be relishing this final climb if they’re feeling good yep nor caner in particular yeah and they’re keeping their powder dry they’re not going with the gesar attacks with Michelle re with the other Riders zambonini indeed the two Riders who are up the front there just being a little bit more patient than M Star riders in this group because it on the queen say it was steinhauer who went and then canana bridged across and went straight by him didn’t he and you can see something similar potentially happening today with the PTI the relatively patient way maybe after yesterday that M are ridden today also the cath ag2 are more about stabilizing their position on the general classification scon last man just behind aalta and Ki is still there from earlier on SOA is just holding these two Riders at a very constant one 123 124 at the moment 3.5k to go to the top of this time I think when you when you compare the two riders in front to LR and the kind of both and the effort that he’s putting today both of the effort and also the class of r that they are that kind of makes sense n the amount of power they can put through also looking at their physiques as well the fact that he’s only just about holding them just makes sense he’s not a rider that’s that’s been particularly fresh he’s done a lot of riding already today as these because these guys have been in a breakaway so the fact that he can’t and the fact that he’s proba doesn’t know where his Finish Line Is Yet with the way that that DM have been riding so uh it’s just kind of holding them so it doesn’t go out too far it looks to me that’s exactly what he’s doing Pas Bron first discovered by the jro dalala in the 1950s and became a regular feature of the copy years has been used sporadically throughout the history ever since it’s been a while since we’ve been over it but it’s a very beautiful climb indeed and we’re going to see it twice today [Music] [Music] [Music] the snow there on those ski slopes that sit just above the Finish Line actually has melted away as May has rolled in we haven’t got summery weather here instead we’ve got um slightly mildly improving conditions the clouds have lifted just a little bit the rain has stopped as you can see and in the distance I can actually see a little bit of blue sky I’m just looking at that Ned yeah so want to cheer the spirits as DSM continue this tactic with h slazer on the front but he’s just losing a second here and a second there and beginning to tire is the young Dutchman yeah have Dam Caruso just behind with Antonio tiberi and then zambanini interesting Rod there bar The Confident positioning that’s notable isn’t it I wonder why wonder what they’ve got up their sleeves they’re a team that we’ve only seen reacting so far we haven’t seen them actually on the front foot as we have a number of others I wonder if we’ll see something similar over the top of this climb we still got 2.6k to go and the Gap is continuing to go out only slightly one minute and 33 seconds where the DSM will use Kevin ver marker to go down his descent hard again and try and narrow the Gap that way to try and te things up for Roman B because everything that they’re doing today is about Roman B they just there isn’t any other solution oh Steiner has now dropped Emanuel G jaabir well that happened in a Trice didn’t it and he’s under pressure now the German looks around and sees that he’s got his uh effectively his teammate there on the ropes and a slight you can almost feel G Steiner just weighing up his options here does he wait for G but it looks like ggir has suffered a bit of a double leg puncture now it’s going away from him yeah this is little flatter section here to see the pace that they’re moving at and there’s turn now’s a look behind there almost he hesitated to will I do I do I wait and he’s like well no I’m going to go now and he’s in full TT mode opening up this gap on this flatter section it might be that gabri Zu can hold him for a bit as soon as the road goes up that’s where he might actually start to struggle again yeah it’s quite a fast section as you can see here only about three or 4% gradient steaz are pushing on now very impressive riding by this man a lot of cycling pedigree in his wider family loely related to Yan or uh uncle-in-law if that’s such a thing as uh still Li isn’t it on the front Kevin V marus taken over that’s still L Riser yeah yeah still L Riser Kevin V Marcus just a little bit further back lurking waiting maybe as I was thinking maybe trying something on The Descent maybe keeping this at a minute 30 we saw the damage they caused on The Descent last time it’s a shorter descent but still a reasonable distance we we crested it a 31.8 K to go and it’s the best part of a 20K 20K descent we get into meate Sprint at the bottom at 11.8k so another not inconsiderable descent as the road just starts to pick up he hasn’t completely crumbled but he can’t get back in contact and Ste are just that little bit stronger with 1500 me to go to the top of this one just needs to hold that Gap and take it onto the Descent and then he will be able to get back on within normally confident descender is he yeah little bit quicker facial expression here looks as composed as he can be we saw RIT large on his face etched into his face the pain of when he was caught by Nar canana just the other day on the queen stage of this race and then shortly afterwards by Tad poacha but uh at this point we still 33 K to go and 20 odk of that downhill looks relatively composed but gab as you said he holding him now isn’t he yeah hasn’t fallen away too much no that’s a smart bit of riding not going into the red to try and chase him and get back on that wheel but just in the knowledge that if you can just keep maintain that kind of distance he should fairly confidently and comfortably be able to get across to the German and maybe even drop him on The Descent yeah having that knowledge in your pocket means he doesn’t need to panic it means that you know he put a Paramount of distance into this B on The Descent to be honest with it so just having that knowledge is is is good you can actually afford to back off slightly but given that he knows now that he can’t out climb Stein hasard normally he’s probably going to have to if he can get on he’s going to have to try and drop him on The Descent and actually Gap him go straight past it can’t they can’t come to the foot of the climb together no otherwise Stein hazle would beat him yeah and and it’s it’s a lot steeper as well it’s on the it’s on the we didn’t see it happen but I would imagine it was on one of the steeper sections that he ultimately went and even then we’re talking as if one minute and 36 was a winning margin now it might be we just don’t know uh but it’s a very slight lead isn’t it even for a very good Climer like G Steiner and get to take on to this last CL of the day with the pellon but the Pelon is Riven with all sorts of strange politics come on IM come on come on come on come on come on [Music] fore most competitive Rider [Music] fore spe fore [Music] speech for thank you speech I don’t understand me doesn’t anything English as you can see they have they 100 I mean 32 kilometers to go our Manel gavier is leading he’s on the on the first group so we we are anticipating to to see him on the top 10 so we shall see all right enjoy the game and I’ll will be contining uh broadcasting until uh to the end I mean State State uh the last stage all right and he drops down now steeply well after a while actually there’s a few kilometers of just relatively flat road then it will drop down steeply to the foot of the last climb gab isn’t done yet either 22 seconds behind can descend very well yeah fighting all the way this man has not given up that is for sure he got no outer layer at all here this is pretty high altitude here 1600 M the pass over BR on he’s got no Gile he’s got no gloves he’s got no rain jacket nothing just and 20ks of downhill it’s going to hurt 20ks downhill it’s going to get very very chilly as fro starts to move clear there’s baring Victorious riding surprised there wasn’t an EF Swan at the side of the road there justs I mean um it could be Logistics but you thought they he know ahead what the Parker is but he he got hand a Beat on it maybe he was asked cuz his team cars behind him yeah true true or is it I think no that was steinhouse who got given a bottle wasn’t it those pair of glasses here’s the move from fro yeah scaron just following the move straight from the back a little glance there from zambonini at the same time as Caruso almost like doing a double take Caruso smiled at smiled at fro well it’s the second time freo’s gone on this climb isn’t it yeah and kuso is just enjoying this bik race isn’t he yeah as you noed earlier when he’s had that little exchange with t pagach what’s going on a lot of smiling yet he just didn’t quite this cuz you know Caruso is from another era looks like there was another attack coming there it did look like it was sevenant would oh scon put Figo Under Pressure here as scon goes off in search of third place over the top of the time looks like he’s going to get it to that’ll be six points to add to his total in the king of the mountain standings for third place over that Catu climb and then he eases up and Fant does indeed move to the front with Yan on his wheel everyone battling just for the pole position as they go over the top now and eventually after a few kilometers they will start to descend yeah as Ben Swift just taken the throw over the top and seven on the shoulder of the British Rider there’s the two Riders just in front 30 seconds now for steinhauser over gab jaabir and then it’s saying there’s 20 certainly isn’t 20 seconds it looked like that Gap is closing up but it is Ben Swift leading leading them down this descent and it’s another very long one indeed 20K is right down to the bottom through the intermediate Sprint and then back back up the passo Brook on from it’s basically it’s a resurf back road I think it’s fair to say very narrow some very steep pitches it’s beautiful very forested as well so a completely different feel to the club who just gone up yeah much less exposed isn’t it yeah very sheltered got only battling to get that can’t no he needs to it might be an idea to just turn it in turn it the other way around try again yeah I think that’s what you might be doing he might just put his arms [Music] through yeah he he’s going to try and put it through cuz your hands are so cold you can’t do the zip up and the most safety most the safest thing to do you need either just stuff it up your your jersey to protect you from the wind as they pass the Finish Line just to their right the VIP tribunes and they go now and as you as you say that’s almost cruel isn’t it that’s the finish line but you are 30 km from it and you got to drop down lose all that all that altitude that you gained on the climb and do it all again the hard way up yeah this is a horrible stage now is he going to get any support from the side of the road here now worried about him on this descent K be because surely he’s a hard man but he’s going to need to get an out of lay on everybody else has caped up here yeah you know you can just see couple of riders there reaching into their back pockets Ben Swift already got his cap on Teddy pach I think he has he’s got a jile on over the top of that one so still short sleeves wow the only I think he the only Rider with short sleeves they definitely got a Jil on over the top all the while that inos are riding on the front of this group I think that’s good news for the Riders off the front for steinhauer in particular of course because inos are not riding for the stage win today no 206 is the gap they are riding I think to try and put Gant Thomas potentially back into second place that’s their plan today that’s what why they’re on the front foot but the stage win is not what they’re interested in so they won’t mind at all that Steiner has a 2 minute and 4 second Advantage now no and what they also want to do is get down this descent safely as well so Ben just making sure he’s looking well just looking round making sure the gaps aren’t opening too much as this man this is the shoulder of this climb that we were talking about doesn’t flat doesn’t descend just yet it’s another kilometer or so there’s a slight pick up and then it starts to drop down back into the valley and here is the Ben Swift Le peleton there’s our commentary point just on the right hand side there is the Finish Line about but sadly as you just said Ned they’ve got to drop down and come all the way back up down the valley and then swing right back up the climb from our commentary position I can just look out of my uh the window above our Monitor and just see the flashing helmet of the what is it 20 or so Riders 25 riders in that group rattling past me onto this uh full flat descent and down into the Mist again Steiner needs to use these kilometers here to exert a bit of an advantage if he can and to hold off am Aman G Bri up here he’s a good job of that at the moment 34 seconds to the A train yeah I think even if gabia closes on this descent I think Steiner what we’ve seen is climbing a lot better so I think he can he can eliminate the threat of Gab zir from his mind so he just needs to press on a lot as as hard as he can and really try and descend super super quick not take any risks but certainly not um not use too much caution either so it’s that balance of actually you got to push you got to push to win those are the standings in the kingom mans competition by the way scaron just adding a few to his tally but even if he were to win the stage Christian scaron he would wouldn’t move into second place so it looks it looks to my mind that pelar has pretty much secured second place and that’s neither canana that something exceptional from the Mala Rosa Group which he’s more than capable of doing yeah it certainly is he’s finally got that jile that we were hoping he had it has he got it on y yeah he’s got it on that’s it’s so so important regardless of of the little bit of time you lose you have to look after yourself otherwise you’ll just freeze got to protect that chest otherwise you’ll get an infection your body temperature just drops it’s dangerous back in the day they used to put a gazetta Del sport up the Jersey so everyone is descending at pretty much the same Pace at the moment there’s no big time gaps there’s no nothing much changing between groups 1 2 3 and four just a reminder of group three that’s Marco F go and Christian scaroni who are together I think although we last time we saw scaroni was battling to get his Gile on so maybe fro and scaron is separated from one another and Ben Swift is matching the pace of the man at the front giner yeah coming down ever so slightly not much but to take a two-minute lead into that climb still got a good chance Luke PL at the back Champion just behind the Hungarian National Champion AA valta still there Mar van San just in front of him it looks like on that side of the valley because they’re looking across where they’re descending they’re descending into Cloud aren’t they yeah it’s quite it’s quite bright as you were saying here actually see blue sky but they are actually descending into the rain I’ll be honest it’s it’s it’s just a mess the weather today mat it’s all over the shop it’s incoherent it isn’t but it what it isn’t is warm it’s it’s really very chilly up here it’s not free freeing cold like the temperatures in linho but with the added rain that they’re dealing with on this descent they will be very cold on this descent yeah they will be they be turning for a while they’re descending till um 11 about 12ks to go yeah so best part of 12ks are descending from this point for the back of the Pelon anyway a little bit less for our leader steinhauser got a couple of seconds taking off his lead but again I think that’s purely because he was a slightly more naturally cautious descender than because Ben Smith won’t be pushing he also won’t be going slowly because he’s a he’s a pretty accomplished descender as we’ve seen before Stow are little bit nervous but this man is not making any time up in fact he’s losing it tiring Now 49 seconds behind it’s not much is it two minutes for steinhauer ha to be a profit of Doom but uh just have this feeling that unless another team takes it up or something changes markedly on this descent these might be the kind of time gaps that they’re going to take onto the climb these different groups and if that’s the case over the course of this uh the last 11.8 km climb if it kicks off at all in the general classification race then um Stein hasard is immediately going to come under a lot of pressure though yeah it’s the first few K of the climb aren’t actually too bad it’s 11k 8K as long as you said Ned 6.6% average but the first kilometer is only 2% so basically flat the next 3ks are only 5.4 4% then it kicks up to eight then there’s an extended period of 10 then there’s a little flat section then it kicks up again so most of the steep slopes under the back end when rods will be tiring that a little bit more so the first couple of KS actually think Ste will be okay for the first couple of KS and as that gradient starts to ramp up that’s where we might see some movement from Riders behind and I do think we’ll see some movement definitely from narana and I’m wondering what we’ll see from par pantra here as well will he be tasked with looking after Ben Conor that’s a very good question very good question he haven’t talked a lot about that team we we thought we lost Ben Conor for a bit but Harry P is in there and I’m talking about Valenta the winner of the stage already depends as how he copes with this super cold weather yeah Roman b as well he won’t necessarily be chased straight away but sits in that strange position of seventh overall it’s a very Valentine par panre CL isn’t it is it’s going to suit him down to the ground I think he’s a I think they have to do you think they have to him free and give him a chance for a stage win if it’s that close definitely yeah Shoring up fourth place well that’s in a way that’s a Conor’s responsibility but there’s a real possibility for Val Valentine par pantra here and they’ve Gotan to stay with I don’t think bod is there we’ve not seen him but he’s definitely got so both the P punter brothers were there we also saw a little bit earlier on there at least one other it’s van there yeah I’m not sure he’s still there there we go 213 now so it’s gone out a little bit more 41 seconds so on this technical part this man has actually closed up a few seconds and that’s no real surprise we expected him as soon as the road started to drop properly and get a little bit technical yeah and he’s taking a few seconds back now he’s the fastest man in any of these groups on this descent fractionally at the moment because um steinhauser is gaining on the Mal Rosa group but gabier is gaining on Steiner in turn as michelo is on his own so scaron is the mystery man he might have been caught by now yeah he was having he was having aing nightmare yeah his a primary a Primacy sorry for him yeah was getting that Kon and we don’t know whether he’s done it or not hopefully he might have got it on the wrong way around but protecting his chest is the main thing it’s amazing the Philly once you finally get it zipped up just feel the benefit just straight away so so important trapping that warm air in and importantly protecting you from that freezing air look at thejo yeah there’s our winner in the rain of the Paso Bron finish to the J A every day the Riders several hours before the race itself comes to a conclusion they enjoy their day out Le I hope they enjoyed their day outs on their electric bikes today like K put you a strong second place yeah they’ll be highly up their overall there’s a few people in very states of distress but some people dancing that the Juan Antonio Fletcher style an arrow mine yeah yeah there we go I think these I think these smiling faces will be replaced by grimacing faces of the pros but the jur is All About Smiles Smiles for Miles 20 kilm in the uh J dalala remain as we continue to focus on the J Air Riders completing their task but the penaton of the jro has their task in hand and Gil steinhauser is having his lead on this long descent chipped away at by Emmanuel Kier but not by the pink jersey group for him NOP so that’s good he getting into his flow although cabri is going fair amount quicker this man isn’t actually descending that badly at all can really and exert yeah use use these long straighter sections just to hold this man off he’s just carrying a bit more Pace into these Corners you could just see gab zir is a bit more confident about banking the bike over it’s only a subtle observation definitely happier leaning the bike even into the wet more confident in the way that his tire is uh is gripping the surface and that’s what it’s all about it’s just feeling feeling where the tire feeling how fire you can Bank the bike over and having having and it sounds having confidence in your tires so so important as a Pro bike rider you really do so seven kilomet to go until the bonus Sprint at pierino which is also effectively the start of the climb it is the start of the climb in fact it’s an 11.8 km climb the Passover BR yeah it’s that Sprint itself is it just just on a little kicker before the climb begins as you say holding St at 217 still in between not making much of an impression on anybody at the moment 26 second him to the Malo group there is the man in second on the wheel of the Malo Rosa who’s in turn just behind Rafa M who’s launched into Victory on so many occasions occasion in fact come off his wheel and never been challenged yeah the whole Rafa M pacha’s attacks has been slightly tweaked hasn’t it a what we’ve seen at this Geo they’re approaching that the race slightly differently from years with this flat out Sprint M rather than just a gradual increase it almost more violent’s got a gap Sprint before he himself yeah just makes it even worse makes it harder to hold his wheels yeah most people the red um before he’s even gone yeah and that’s yeah and that’s the whole idea you put them into the they can’t respond and then you go so yeah perfect combination now so another seven seconds have been taken by this man from the pelaton he’s losing time with gab I don’t think he needs to worry about that let gab gab jaabir gets a real Second Wind no and changes yeah for him the battle is against the Mia Rosa group the time that he can Bank on this descent because he will lose time well we don’t know actually we just don’t know as we’ve said we don’t know who’s who’s going to ride in the peleton and with what intent but the smart money says that Gap will close one team or other will take it up in the Mal Rosa group whether it’s bar Victorious whether it’s inos whether it’s even Bor hands grower got two Riders though DSM again to see through that tactic I mean bade must be feeling good there are enough Riders and teams to bring that Gap back Stein’s are flying down this descent now at the moment remember the first part of the climb relatively shallow so for a more of a ruler climber like this man is he won’t mind the first for this actually 5Ks 2.2 K percent should I say for just a kilometer and then there’s a good three or fourks where it’s only five and a half% which is not particularly steep should be out of power along that bit but then it’s the second and third third of the climb that are very very difficult where I think that’s where he will start to lose time depending on what happens behind but given the race is so is still so relatively open and there’s a lot of rers in this race that haven’t got anything still multiple teams without a win they will try something but they just got to be very very careful that don’t just hand this Victory again to T Pacha who’s quite keen on just following things well floating around yeah but the the Nuance thing about this is that there are teams in the Pelon who aren’t bothered about the team about the stage result who are riding a GC race and that might be slightly different plot from from yesterday stage but it might be those teams that hand the victory to T pugachu again today if they start to Ride Hard exactly and they won’t be bothered by that necessarily they’re just interested in in just getting their Rider a bit higher up GC yeah especially if the UN granders for example are are have looked at Danny Martinez and think that he might be vulnerable um and and even you know Danny Martinez himself might actually be fine and thinking I can stick some more time into G Thomas we don’t know we don’t know all the details but there just that’s just what it’s looked like on on a couple of occasions then Conor if he’s on a good day thinks that he can still get on the podium well if that’s the case he’s got to move today he’s got to start doing it they’re running out of Mountain stages now so he’s got to do it only got two more m two more opportunities to take time after this one because we’ve got two Sprint stages he’s got one minute and two seconds to make up on Garett Thomas in third place it’s unpredictable and it’s out of the hands of the two Riders at the front of the race I don’t think Marco fgo is going to get across and be involved in the stage Victory today I think that’s unlikely but these two could a little wobble there from gabre jabir but he held it up yeah he closed hasn’t closed quite as much as I thought still 35 seconds I don’t think he not getting contact not in 1800 m not going to close 35 seconds so I don’t think gab unless our German friend out in front blows we’ll see the front of the race again so Stein Hower yeah not on the evidence of what we uh saw on the previous Ascent of the pass one and this one’s harder much harder eventually as you detailed it uh it it just gets harder the higher you get this point inside the last two col as it levels out a little bit there a slight desent just drops quite s isn’t it yeah just 6 or 700 met then kicks up again and then the the the section that leads into the finishing straight is no more than a couple of meters wide it’s incredibly narrow it’s almost like a tunnel isn’t it the barriers are very close it does widen out actually for the finishing straight itself for the last couple hundred meters but the bit between kind of six and 300 M is very narrow no more than two Riders WID really yeah but 222 Cap’s going out it’s borderline healthyish this lead but as you say will the GC teams be minded there we go 700 met this all uphill now so it’s uphill to the Sprint and then we’re on to the climb what has this man got left in the tank looking good at the moment but it’s a long way to the finish 12.7k car comes up alongside him another gel that’s mdy brel the unmistakable voice of MD brel eat it eat it just get that down here some energy down here he’s just got to this is a big big ride by this man smart move combined forces took his time to get across to Emanuel gri but now he finds himself in the same position he did on the queen stage just a few days ago two and a half minutes now mant y it’s it’s healthy yeah yeah they just seem to be just riding Tempo behind 233 so it’s rather coming down it’s going up so gabri still has a 1 minute 58 seconds lead so he’s now starting to lose time again gab was 135 and now he hit the climb or the lower part of the climb or the approach to the climb should I say which is still uphill gab jair is falling back but he’s still got around two minutes on the Mal Rosa group as well this is a horrible climb to be alone on just with that it’s a you’d rather have a lead than none but you know the fir power that’s behind and will the characters that we’ve talked about the potential winners of this race have have they got anything left themselves it’s been such a hard stage cold stage as well so through the final Sprint of the day all alone Gail steinhauser feds in it’s a time traal to the Finish Line a distant 12 km away there’ll be fed information about what what is happening behind and at the moment it’s inos grenadiers who are not riding for a stage win and all the while that that’s the case that massively benefits G Stein haaz but it could change a lot can change on this climb yep Roman B put Kevin verar near the front as they just file over this R and there’s the man in second position yeah is losing a lot of time now quite quickly in fact losing time to both the Malia Rosa group and losing time to steinhauser he takes those two bonus seconds as he passes through the final Sprint in second place on the road meanwhile G steinhauser even though he’s been climbing for over a kilometer already is now on the uh start of the categorized climb 11.8% a average gradient of just under 7% with a maximum of 133% still looks really strong has not lost a second 237 it is in fact he’s gained it was 2 and a half minutes he’s running very well just rolls his arm warmers down just to cool his arms a bit although it’s cold as soon as you start riding up riding up these climbs especially the grant we’re going to be facing soon you get very very warm yeah he’s measuring if you look at that time gap between group one and group four he is measuring himself against Ben Swift at the moment yeah and at the moment clearly his motivation is the stage where he’s taking a second here and a second there 240 now but Ben Swift won’t take this climb all the way to the top no and that’s the problem no one knows what might happen yeah gab jair is really starting to tie here 47 seconds behind and I think he knows it that’s a rider who’s resigned to the fact that the best he can get out of today is second place yeah michelo is uh in no man’s land really just he’s not far he’s not close enough to the front of the race really to believe that he can hold off the Mal Rosa group I don’t think but he will carry on might as well if especially if a little group comes across to him he can’t climb well he’s just gradually being winched back he’s just giving some uh yeah he’s giving his cape to the TV car yeah so he can continue on also lightening the uh the load ever so slightly so still just Ben Swift on the front 246 so it’s it’s approaching 3 minutes now this gets to 3 minutes I think um and we’re not even on the Steep SE that could be a hard for even anybody to bridge discussion going on between Valentine par pantra and Roman B just behind the maler Rosa there did you see that yeah that was interesting they are stage Hunters both of those two and uh when they when Valentine par pantra won there was a discussion between the two of them again yeah well this man is Abol flying at the moment he 55 seconds in front of Gab look at this full TT mode okay’ got this little downhill section yeah and then it’s just 10% so this this first phase the way they’re riding behind I think for the next couple of KS he’s only going to take time he’s just absolutely flying he’s in good form this isn’t a shock that this man’s out in front this man is going well and Ben Swift is just doing his job just running Tempo they don’t need to bring him back 58 seconds it is now as he continues to take time where is the movement going to come from as the road starts to bite yeah there’s a certain twitchiness in the pelaton Now isn’t it as Ben Swift has allowed this go this Gap to balloon out to close to 3 minutes for G steinhauser 10 km of this climb to go for the German not too bad the gradients here and they remain relatively forgiving for the next few K but after that it gets vicious yeah steadly Rises now at about four or five% as he finds another gear gets very low on a bik so he’s efficient on a bik arms there you can just see on the hoods 247 yeah so it’s holding steady now still still Ben Swift y I think some of the pur climbers might be gambling that they they wait to the Steep wa to the steeper section but the Gap might be irretrievable by that point if he’s even if you get to the Steep section we’ve only actually got we only have like five or six KS to go of the climb six KS to go yeah of the climb and three minutes we just got back that’s 30 seconds per kilometer you take back now Ben Swift is they’re discussing tactics because if they’re riding on the front it’s for a purpose they’re not doing it for no reason and the only purpose I can I can sort of understand from this is to put Danny Martinez under pressure and in order to do that you have to ride harder than this yeah so at some point if they you know what’s the point of them being on the front if not for that yeah it’s a it’s an odd one because uh 250 it’s nearly three minutes like Stein house on now has got a very very good Prospect to taken the stage as Ben o Conor moves up the outside now so Conor getting himself into position Roman B moving into position just behind par panra Valentin par panra looks like moving up the outside as well and also one of the rers from M I couldn’t tell if that was Rubio Rubio yeah it’s 301 yeah and Ben Swift got no intention of of riding Stein Hower back no uh 301 is a very goodlooking gap for this German he’s got a very good chance of staying away even with 9 km to go because we’ve still got about three or four K of just Gent Rising terrain before it gets almost Muro like so Steiner can he see this one to the end so far so good for the young German what a stellar achievement this would be if he could pull it off just the sense that the odds are stacked ever so slightly in his favor now gor steinhauser I think so they’ll be telling that in his ear giving him the belief belief but uh this would be a enormous achievement for him he would 303 so he’s continuing to take time ever since he’s been on this climb he’s gone that little bit quicker okay we haven’t reached the steep slopes just yet as he gives his glasses in as the speed starts to drop often the glasses start to missed up also making a his bike make himself and his and his bike ever so a little bit ever so lighter 306 now wow when’s the action going to come with 8.8 K to go this is looking good for this man he’s going to be hard to bring back I think it’s looking good well nobody else is chasing yeah yeah Martinez is isolated again and he’s dropped a little bit further Back Down the Line Mari F looked like he might be making a move up on the right hand side of the bunch but at the moment everyone is content just to sit on the pace of Ben Swift and another few seconds get added to the advantage of G Steiner time is running out for the stage Hunters here they really really is geska he’s after a stage from kofidis B if he’s allowed to go he wanted a stage that was why why his team Road like that FR has moved up par pant there interesting isn’t it it’s a real gamble Harrison wood has got himself back in yeah good riding the British Rider there yep 310 another couple of seconds added to the lead of Jor steinhiser [Music] all that information is going to be passed on it’s going to be constantly told remember what you did the other day leading on the queen States now you got another opportunity he making himself even lighter now taking off these sodn gloves given them to somebody as a souvenir again just a couple of grams lighter efficient cooler it’s what it’s all about his DS will be in his ear constantly now telling him to keep on pressing on trying to block out the pain and just think about the beauty of what this win will will mean for him if it happens if it happens but that’s the kind of stuff you’ve got to tell your Rider yeah that’s what you got to tell him you cannot be negative you need to keep being positive stay focused stay focused and all he’s doing right now is continuing to take a little bit more time another 4 seconds added to the total when will we see some movement there he is on the climb but the worst sections are still to come as you can see well what he has emphatically done is is dispensed with all of the opposition off the front of the race so he’s the strongest attacker today he’s the strongest of the Breakaway Riders plenty of riders have tried this kind of a move today he’s the only one who’s made it stick and given himself a real chance gabri now 1 minute 29 and just clearly not moving quite as quickly markedly more labored he’s got a in turn got a 1 minute 45 Advantage himself over the peleton behind and that equates to about 500 M so it’s about 900 it’s about a kilometer it’s saying there between the front of the race and the back of the race is still in your grenadiers in the form of Ben Swift set the tempo at the front nav’s locked into second position and the way they’re positioned here doesn’t look like anybody else is going to move through just yet could be that everybody else is just absolutely knackered as well nks to go from from in enos’s perspective if they want to take these 22 seconds against Danny Martinez they can do that potentially in the last one and a half kilom they can take this a long way up this clim yeah they don’t need to bring back the leader just take it in and see what Garren Thomas has got whether he can attack or maybe even arensman they might even just might even deploy arensman to see what happens there while they’re riding this uh Pace there’s plenty of riders who can just hold the wheels including Christian sconi and Harrison wood I think the one battle that could be quite interesting as Ironman trying to go back above well above he’s never been in the white jersey yet the Tiber irons proposition think he’s a little bit too much to ask of Tiber to go above Conor but definitely Thomas back over Martinez and Aaron’s been over Tiber the two interesting ones for me 316 317 look at how low he’s getting on these little flatter sections here these are the bits where he shouldn’t lose time but getting ever nearer are these steeper sections where if they decide to go from behind they may start to chip away at his lead or hack away at it but there’s no sign of that happen happening just yet at the moment it’s holding steady 3 minutes and 17 seconds 7.1 km to go drop some of those jail rappers lighten the lad just that little bit more and finds another second 318 now 7 km to go for Stein Hazard the 22y old German and the waiting game continues back in the pelto naira canana ghosting up on the right hand side positioning himself a little bit better towards the front when’s he going to attack for sure Nao canana will attack if he’s got the legs I think that’s the big one Ned isn’t it who’s got the legs as well after what we’ve had in this Duo that’s also true Pacha stripping off a l yeah Pacha on the radio being just dropping that uh you just instructing them where they dropped the stuff at the side of the road otherwise that’d be a very valuable souvenir a pink Jill for a fan 319 Stein gets another second big ride from Ben Swift this yeah look at the power he’s going out I mean took 400 watts Plus at the end of a stage like this just shows how strong he is so reliable so consistent as well n is spinning a slightly lower gear looking relatively easy as well but uh face of concentration flicker of a Grimace there and then looking relatively impassive behind those big shades of his is the man in third place overall Gite Thomas just behind teon arensman 319 now 6.4 K to go thought briefly that Gart was going to move through to the front then but he hasn’t just overlapped the wheel of Gite Thomas he’s well over a kilometer in front 6.3 to go the next four kilm if he can get through these without any action chipping away at his Advantage then he’s got it one if you can get to 2K to go with anything like a lead over the whatever the chase is like behind then he has won this stage I think so it’s all about I think the next four kilometers y he can actually afford he can actually afford over this next 4 km to lose a minute because with that that little 2 km bit where it dropped drops down you’re not going to lose any time there and then the gradient flattens a little bit so he can now afford to lose time all he needs is to win by a second I guess that’s the last thing you’ll want though but the Gap is holding steady well for the first time it’s gone down 2 second 36 to the Malia Rosa group well just your little reminder that this 22y old German has never raced The Grand Tour before this jro and he’s never won a professional bike race what a position he finds himself in now yeah that’s an amazing position long-term contractors well with the F they clearly saw something special in this man he locked into 2026 I bet uh Jonathan V is pretty glad he did whatever happens today and it’s looking highly likely for me anyway that this man is going to hold on still 315 the road just drops ever so slightly but we’ve got some fears some slopes coming up 314 so 4 seconds have been taken off as Ben Swift continues to ride Jonathan n has just behind still they haven’t caught Emanuel gab jaabir there 1 minute and 10 seconds behind gab jaabir who’s in turn 203 but it looks like he’s picked things up here the shape of the bunch here has changed as if Ben Swift is nearing the end of his effort and the time is starting to drop away here Ned well if Ben Swift is just winding it up for a terminal effort and nav takes over and starts to put the Hat there he goes so Swift drops away and what difference will Jonathan naay make to this pace now yeah 312 so the first time but in a funny anyway this will deter the attacks from the likes of B and Parry pan so this could this could be the best thing in a funny way for G shouser exactly well they’re certainly going to take time out of him and it’s happening already but um they’re moving pretty quickly 5.6 kilm to go they still are around a kilometer as you can see bang on a kilometer behind him and there’s a few Riders starting to struggle behind yeah there’s a change in the dynamic now with Jonathan Naas Stein has of 5.5k Harrison W has uh straight away Fallen victim to that extra injection of pace as Ben Swift gets on the radio he’s dropped so to his his compatriot Harrison wood and at the front of the race inos Now setting this up to put Danny Martinez Under Pressure they were waiting for these steeper slopes and here they are and uh Team Allman in lock step with Gad Thomas and his teammate Jonathan na setting a much higher Pace now yeah the Gap dropping now to 100 meters have been shaved off the lead in terms of time it’s another 10 or 11 seconds as we reach some of these steeper graded 10% that are on at the moment but still 305 Freo we almost forgot about the Italian still just dangling off the front but about to be swept past by Jonathan nvz as rers continue to drop away from the back of this group but 5.3k to go for our sole leader who still got just over three minutes but it’s going to tick under in just a couple of moments time do you know what I think this is this is perfect for G Steiner right now because canana and Rubio right at the back there they don’t look like they’re in a position or have the legs to attack at the moment I don’t think they do yeah Ki getting dropped look just the face there everybody’s just trying to hold on here this isn’t a flat out Pace but it’s just hard that nobody can attack from it and meanwhile this man’s looking good n isn’t he yeah you know this real Rhythm this real Pace added drama there the headlights of his team car behind on his carves as we gradually lose the light say 258 only five k to go just over now nid yeah and only three really hard kilometers to go until it flattens out a bit and then he’s winning touching distance of the Finish but he has lost a lot over the last 500 meters or so he’s lost a chunk of time since Jonathan Nas has gone on the front but the equation the maths are still in favor of of g steinhauser at the front of the race yeah that was a big kick out that corner though by n as he starts to really I’m wondering if this is trying to set up team at arens with more than Gite Thomas yeah Aaron’s been looking good in second position here Thomas actually looking pretty comfortable today relatively speaking where is the white jersey of Tiber that’s an interesting one as it started to split behind no still all together but tiber’s a little bit further back there a Danny Martinez couple of rers dropping away Simon geska of c is now getting dropped Luke PL also being distance 259 still around a kilometer the distance between these two groups and still Emanuel GB jaabir in the Gap but I do think that the error train is going to be CAU that’ll be sad for him looks like he’s going to be denied second place D kza dropping Away Now Kevin ver Marka is the next Rider that he sees ahead of him on the road and he too is falling victim to the increasing Pace being set by the Ecuadorian national champion yeah meanwhile T Bacha looks very comfortable doesn’t he fourth or fifth back just behind Rafa Micah almost uh out of sight now these roders they it’s so so dark in the shade of these trees it’s Moody 257 so he’s losing time but he’s he’s not capitulating he’s he’s he’s still he’s not tiring like I thought he might it’s a couple of other Riders now it’s Orel and Par pant Val Valentin out the pack now yeah that’s something of a surprise isn’t it to see Valen Perry pan dropped by Jonathan nav on this clim yeah his brother’s just on his TA in his his foot de or Kevin verak also being dropped Michael stora now the last man in that group come on come on come on come on come on 24 plenty of time in the bank plenty just got over these next two Kil RAC has W especially with that kind of Advantage 254 he is looking so strong on this CL yeah he’s looking good he’s moving still pretty quickly that good rym going theow that will give him another couple of wats as we look down at the gears he’s got a couple spare here 4.1 km to go and as you say 2K time already for has n just pulled over there looks like yeah n so n is done they go yeah they’re just passing through 5 km aren’t they 900 met on the road as team adman takes it up y so this is for Thomas then isn’t it yeah just to stabilize the position of Thomas I think maybe Thomas is going to try something on this clim as you say to try and uh do something to retake second place on the general classification got to try isn’t he 22 seconds he’s got to make up on Daddy Martinez yeah and also this is going to take a lot with arensman I’m wondering if arensman the white jersey competition is now secondary and he’s just working 100% for his teammate because that’s certainly what it looks like at the moment they’re continuing to thin this group behind where is TI a little further up is they just gab sorry yeah okay foron is doing okay here to hold on to the wheel of store ahead of him n canana then H then aelan par pantra and now they catch rier and T Aron sweeps into second place on the road yep Rafa Mah just out behind T Pacha briefly out of the saddle Oran P pan just in front of Roman B DSM a lot of the riding today but they’re not going to catch well I don’t think they’re going to catch this man still enjoying a lead of 2 minutes and 54 seconds okay to go 4K to go he’s yeah he’s winning the battle he really is SC Steiner at the moment he is making the pelaton have to settle those Riders who are looking for the stage win for uh a minor placing here because he’s in control of this at the moment as the time Gap might be a little bit unreliable there but it suggests that they’re certainly not making gains on him yeah definitely arisman looking good on the front out of the saddle there Rafa Mah on these super steep slopes it’s good riding by the indos grenadiers stabilizing that position I mean there’s one Rider who could still emerge from this group and win this bik race I think we know who that is yeah but I don’t think he’s going to do it today I think even well once we get to 3K SC again I don’t not too sure if that lead is really I mean is it 303 if it’s around a kilometer it is probably that sort of distance he’s certainly riding very strongly St now he hasn’t lost too much time in fact he’s lost hardly anything at all in over the seven or eight K of this climb so far he’s only lost around about 20 seconds if that time is correct TI’s looking pretty solid on the wheel of R about halfway down that line in around about Seventh Place Danny Martinez is glued to the wheel of at T Pacha Pacha has Rafa mic in front of him and the waiting game continues now Thomas looking like he’s going to attack Martinez yeah C is starting to drop down or and P P just slipping down yeah towards the back of the group not a GC Rider so the non-gc Riders are few and far between in this group NRA canana and an Rubio both still there though yep an Rubio of course there narana moving up Yan her still there as well philipo Zan in the orange and blue of jco alula as arensman looks over his shoulders it’s still saying three minutes now that is still three minutes that’s an amazing ride by this young man it really is he has hardly lost at all he’s matched the pace of the pelaton yeah he’s match the pace of Jonathan Na and te Ironman both of whom had fresh legs and were required to set a pace for Gan Thomas so that’s something really something from G steaz I think we’re seeing something pretty special here we really are even now even if he capitulates he can afford to lose about 50 seconds a kilometer and he still would not be caught 3.2 K to go that’s the math of this and he’s just looking good he’s just looking very strong round this hairpin Road straightens out a little bit here round but the gradient picks up again it’s still not quite done but he’s very close now 24 7 he’s lost a few seconds now but as I say he’s only got about one further kilometer of these this severity of climbing before he gets a little bit of rest bite for around about 6 700 met through two km to go there you go raer mic he wasn’t uh celebrating a win there stretching out his back slightly flatter section here for the Malia Rosa group a little bit further down the climb of course and the Gap corrects itself it’s more like 2 minutes and 40 seconds as aon’s been out of the saddle another Rider just get distance from the back see if can identify anybody from that lead group that might start to crack difficult to say at the moment now but three k to go he’s looking so fluent isn’t he Stein Hower 3K to go as you say under that Arch now just briefly out of the saddle and then into his preferred seated position he puts to much power through those cranks and he’s holding holding good here 2 minutes and 30 seconds this kilometer matters almost more than any other kilometer on this climb so far let’s see if he can get himself over this the steepest part of the climb is done and that is what he’ll be told in his earpiece keep on driving once you’re over this bit you’re almost home and dry that little bit of a descent they won’t be able to take too much more time out of him he is starting to ship time now unsurprisingly the toil of this effort starting to tell but he still looks strong still putting a lot of power through the pedals as rers continue soor is dropping here that’s good news for TI potentially who can make big gains in the Australian so okona Falls victory him now to he’s fourth place in GC and falling away on the pressure from Team ensman here this is a Relentless Pace that’s been set by the Dutchman here great riding here well who would have thought it after yesterday’s R there was a little bit of confusion in relation to what was going to happen with the indos grenadiers but the sole Focus here is looking after the interests of Gan thas but meanwhile up in front with only 2.7 kilm to go and a little bit of descending within that this man with a lead still of 2 minutes and 26 seconds should be good would be good for steinhauser unless something extraordinary happens this man is riding to Victory here his famous climb of Paso Bron landmarked moment in this young career just 22 years of age one riders in the pelaton what a per the culmination of prompt shown over the last few days of racing he’s got stronger and stronger and stronger but D there’s no attacks so pogacha following Thomas trying to get onto the wheel of P and Martinez so Martinez far from being the nail turns out to be the hammer on this stage yeah this is where the lead could start to capitulate should be still enough for them out out in front but a good attack Brave riding here confident riding by Danny Martinez to try and secure that second place on the general classification but with the third to react it’s brilliant it’s Brave it’s brave because he hasn’t dropped Thomas and he’s invested a lot in that attack and Thomas could roll him yet but look at the damage that’s done in that group it’s been obliter by that attack by Danny Martinez yeah Z has gone as well that’s going to be an interesting one cuz Z is just behind there one place overall for the general Rubio is in the mix there as well Tiber is there still Roman b as well Roman B might try something for a high placing here is to start style of racing as everybody gets back in contact arensman now has got back to the back of this group where’s the next attack going to come from pach is just an interested spectator isn’t he I think ra gets on to the front watch what Rafa Mah does now just he ride a Tempo pach is not ATT attack he’s just riding a Tempo that suits him he can do what he likes at will this man yeah he’s just riding a nice Tempo here just to keep things nice and smooth he’s actually starting to drop them now he’s actually moving off the front is he going to take even more time it’s Danny Martinez is now from attacking is forced to Chase and yeah he’s just just not attacked he’s just winding things up and here he goes on this steeper slope now just leaning onto the gear 2.2k to go 2 minutes and 17 seconds for our so leader remember steinhauser still out in front but with 2K to go and this man well what’s he got up his sleeve oh no Pacha has dropped the allall he’s left them he’s moved it to Second Place on the road he’s winding it up now Daron Thomas looks behind sees Danny Martinez that is a private battle between those two for second and third place but the Mala is at it again sits down is he going to persist with this attack 207 yeah he going to persist with this but it’s it looks like he could just hold this one and now it is Tober who looks like he’s trying to bring this back in in well meanwhile up in front with two this is where the Descent just after this little section where the Moto is the road starts to drop I think even T pach the mighty T kach can’t close a minute every kilometer I think this man is going to take his first pro win in his first ever Grand Tour he’s almost in a state of indecision there t Pacha he looks around sees that he’s got this big gap over Tiber Martinez Thomas I know Rubio um and is still there but that’s the battle for third place at the moment he’s just adding a few more seconds to his time Gap I think he knows he’s not going to get the stage win doesn’t need another stage win yeah but he take another second would he what it just definitely Just sh it up it just makes the rest of the race that little bit easier for him doesn’t it just look at him his face utterly composed and behind him his Rivals trailing in his wake good response from gar Thomas though to Danny Martinez attack but Thomas needs to take those 20 second somehow on Danny Martinez and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen today this man though despite the fact that he’s being chased up this mountain by none other Rider than Tad Pacha looks like he is going to be riding to Victory here 150 over Tad paga as Rubio picks it up in that chase group the third group on the road you need 1.2k to go for leaders but they’re about another 700 meters behind on Rubio looks around for mistar Tober locked in in the white jersey on his wheel securing that position just out that’s being dropped here as Rafa Micah Gant Thomas look steady good to see Roman B there out of the saddle here battling to save his Jero fourth place at the moment and doing a good job of it he is just about getting back to that group you can see Michael stor ahead of him he can use the sight of that but in the meantime this man is heading towards the flam Rouge that sign at the side of the road says 1,100 meters to go and he’s got over a minute and a half to defend against T pogacha this is going to be a victory ride for G steinhauser he is going to hold them all off one more brutal little bit of gradient here to deal with and then it does ease off ever so slightly yep he’s going to enjoy this but I think he can afford to enjoy this he cannot let off the pedals not with talat only one minute 37 seconds but soon he will sense he’s got this Victory his DS will be in his ear Matti PR will be screaming that you’ve got this win what an absolute Sensational R he took the initiative Ned he went early followed the move in fact of Emanuel GB jaabir built this lead and for three quarters of this climb hardly seeded a second but this man has he sent something special he’s gone again 138 though 800 met to go should be enough even Ted pagach has run out of TAC here second place is secure and he’s going to take a few more seconds probably a chunk of time on GC on these Riders here who are just in a different world altogether Tiber another very strong ride from him today Martinez has responded to the threat of the Unos grenadiers admirably today and ask questions of garon Thomas that have been answered but garon Thomas Oh I thought he might just try and go on the well he was reacting in fact to an attack there from ran B indeed Steiner coming into the last six or 700 meters of his ride There He Go 700 meters to go for the German it does actually start to flatten he’s still got a minute and a half over tal Pacha this man Ned is going to take his first win it’s been eing flowing all day long it’s been a it’s been third on the queen stage of this race he said he’s going to have another Bight of the cherry and with 600 me to go he is going to do it what a remarkable win from this man a solo victory in the J Italia and a debut on at that it flattens out here so G steinhiser can enjoy this and somewhere watching on in Germany they will be a very proud father his father Tobias was a professional back in the day and his uncle Yan olrick the family connection is extraordinary we’ll be watching on with Fascination and pride at what his nephew is achieving here a first professional Victory and he does it at a grand tour the Judo Italia no less in the final week G Steiner to his absolute Delight fulfills all the promise that he’s been showing us over the last few days a fantastic solo win from the Breakaway Class Act strong clever and Victorious Scout steinhauser anounces himself as a big player in road racing and Germany have a new potential hero to celebrate what a win from steinhauser absolutely superb look at the Joy on his face emotional scenes here at the finish at pasel bro he took the race on he’s tried he failed he’s done it again and he has won at the duralia absolutely wonderful scenes here wow he’s even got time in hand there a minute and a half in hand well how far behind is the pink jersey this is the battle for third place let’s just concentrate on that because Gant Thomas seems intent on still trying to claw those seconds back on Danny Martinez meanwhile a little bit further back team Ironman alongside Yan H is riding in their own battle but he’s easing up here a little bit T Pacha I think he will take a few seconds almost casually almost insolently with ease that even he can’t to frankly just rolling in isn’t he T Pacha yeah for another second place another second place at the Jalia poacha here he comes into the finishing straight As you say just pocketed trouser a few more seconds just rode up the front not really a big attack and here he is third look at that he looks across just business as usual for Ted Pacha as this group comes to the line now Tiber remember there are bonus seconds on offer here for third place for four seconds tiet trying to outsprint Garen Thomas who wants those bonus seconds but limp it like Danny Martinez GL to the wheel of the Welshman that group comes across as one but it’s Antonio tiberi who takes third place his best Stage finish at the Jalia and Shores up his lead against that man team Allman in the white jersey competition courtesy of the gap on the road and the time bonuses that he took so a really good day for Antonio Tiber where is Beno con he’s going to potentially be the big loser on the day fourth place at the start here is Lorenzo Fortunato coming around the corner there is a there is the face of the Australian the Aussie fighting Storer his fellow Countryman just behind he’ll be okay he’ll be okay in fourth place y uh but he’ll see a big chunk of his lead over Antonio Tibet taken away from him as Beno Conor battles defends his position on fourth place valiantly and uh that man was uncatchable in the end a breakaway finally had their day on an uphill finish the first time at the J since Valentine p panta on stage 10 road to Victory the day after the first rest day the impressive thing about this ride for me n was the amount I mean he did lose time it’s only really when they really started to wind things up I mean he built that lead himself he earned that lead you know and for half of that climb kept them at Bay and enjoyed well look at that moment actually at no point even near the end did he ever look like he was going to tie up he just looked still full of strength clearly he was tiring a bit of course he would what a moment in this young man’s career and what a moment for EF education easy POS they got the stage win that they came for what a good signing he is what a shrewd signing tied in as you were mentioning to a three-year contract for a neopro go out and prove yourself stick him in the Jalia scene and what can he do well he can do that that was very special consider how good that Breakaway group was that 10 Rider group of which he was a part early on G Steiner the likes of katana ala Philip they were all there weren’t they Damiano valta well none of them were there at the end but he was a lot of the attacks that we thought were come just didn’t I think just Riders were just nailed just Absol I mean they’re just tired and there we go 124 the lead in the end well there we go that is the top 10 over the line and that well he’ll never forget that Willie G Stein haser number one number two no other Rider but Tad pogacha absolutely fantastic a personal Landmark for gal steinhauser let’s hear from him what a special day G steinhauser is about to share his thoughts with this I think first Grand Tour first pro win your third place at the queen stage in Lino is it what gave you the confidence for what you have done today I don’t know it’s uh something unbelievable already on stage eight I I noticed I have good legs I thought maybe I have legs to win a stage the queen stage was a unbelievable day uh I I could already be happy just with a queen stage with this chro and today already when I roll to the sign [Music] on [Music] foree [Music] [Music] speee [Music]
